Sexual Assault Suits Against Watson

Florio is still talking about settlement. :toropalm:

Settlement remains possible in Deshaun Watson discipline
Posted by Mike Florio on August 12, 2022, 3:01 PM EDT

As the clock ticks toward a resolution of the appeal of the six-game Deshaun Watson suspension, a settlement remains possible.

Per a source with knowledge of the situation, an agreed resolution between the NFL and the NFL Players Association could still happen. Last night, the Associated Press reported that Watson would be willing to serve an eight-suspension and pay a $5 million fine.

There’s a growing sense that appeals officer Peter Harvey may not issue a ruling today, so that the two sides can try to work something out. Absent a one-year suspension effective immediately, Watson will be able to play tonight, in Jacksonville. The Browns have said that Watson will start the game.
The NFL currently holds all the cards. A settlement would end the process, and it would prevent a federal court challenge.
It’s unclear what the league would do, or what Watson would be willing to serve.

Possible but not probable.

Why would Roger Goodell negotiate any kind of a settlement when he is 100% in control? I mentioned earlier that more time to swing public opinion to NFL's position was good move but that has been accomplished. Now the NFL needs to act decisively. Just my two cents but any kind of wavering from the commissioner's office would not look good. He did the right thing when he stated that Watson was a predator and now is the time to discipline him as one and then close the books and move forward to the next Fiasco.

They already had a very reasonable settlement on the table and clown boy rejected it. So I don’t see the Commish honoring any type of request from that silly joker.

Agree. Peyton Manning scored a 28 and Tom Brady scored a 33 while Ryan Fitzpatrick scored a 48. Brady and Manning are two of the smartest QBs to ever play the game. Fitzpatrick was known to make some of the dumbest turnovers at the worst possible time by any starting QB.

The Wonderlic is just one of the many tools in a team's talent evaluation kit. By itself, it's not this great predictor of on-field success or intelligence. That's my opinion on the value.

Agreed.

However, as part of an overall cohesive evaluation of a QB, and when coupled with his personal life choices, it clearly reveals what we in the human industry call a "dumbass". :howdy:

Can anyone think of a better reason a decision hasn’t been made?

I mean if Goodell wanted to make dam sure Watson doesn’t play, he’s got the power to do it
Obviously, I don't have the exact answer. But it is just as likely, Goodell felt there could be advantage to his appearance.............negative reaction by fans...........mediocre or poor performance taking him down a couple more notches.............punctuating a giveth and taketh away maneuver to emphasizing his unappreciated and "abuse of a privilege." Who knowns. But discussing settlement is by no means the only reason he is being allowed to play tonight.

The Browns and Watson wanted "exposure," they certainly got exposure.

Deshaun Watson plays three series, completes one pass for 7 yards
Posted by Charean Williams on August 12, 2022, 8:17 PM EDT

Deshaun Watson‘s night is over, and who knows when we will see him again.

From what he showed Friday night, the Browns quarterback needs all the work he can get.

Watson played three series Friday night, going 1-for-5 for 7 yards before Joshua Dobbs replaced him with 14:02 remaining in the second quarter. Jacoby Brissett, who is slated to start in Watson’s absence, was inactive.

Anthony Schwartz dropped two of Watson’s incompletions.

Watson, who was booed by Jaguars fans when he took the field, played for the first time since Jan. 3, 2021, in his final game with the Texans. He conceded in a pre-game interview with Aditi Kinkhabwala that he doesn’t know when his next game action will come.

“I’m super excited,” Watson said. “I’m excited to get out there with my new teammates and go out there and compete. Each and every snap, I want to make sure I cherish that because I’m not sure when the next time I’ll be able to get out there with those guys so I’m super excited.”

By "apologizing" with an all-encompassing generalization about being sorry how he "impacted" his victims, says nothing about admitting specific violations of his victims. It's no stronger that the apology he made to his fans, the Browns, etc, he said "were impacted" by the situation.

Watson has still not made what would be considered a true mia culpa.........everyone is left wanting to hear WHY he is apologizing. Any valid apologies should be made publicly separately to each and every woman he victimized, spelling out in each case exactly what he did to them for which he is apologizing.

No......his so-called "apology" was not more that an orchestrated move to soften his potential punishment and soften public perception..........something that he failed at miserably.

He scored 20 on his Wonderlic test. I guess the 'bright side' is he's smarter than Vince Young? :heh:

According to the metrics:

QB Average Score?

According to Paul Zimmerman's The New Thinking Man's Guide to Pro Football, the average score of an NFL quarterback is 26. Most teams want at least a 21 for a quarterback.

He's actually dumber than VY and his trips to the Cheesecake Factory.

Its not contradictory at all, I've meet plenty of very intelligent people that I would not say are smart. I see this particularly with engineers, pretty much all of them have the intelligence to draw up blueprints but the smart ones look at the blueprints and realize that it will only work on paper and not in real life. I give the devil their due and remember the press conferences where Watson would break down plays and what was going on so that showed he is intelligent. Pretty much everything he has done the last 2-3 years has shown he's not very smart though.
I can relate to this post.

There's a big difference between knowing what you are supposed to do and actually doing it when the live bullets are flying around. Only the special ones have that gift and that ain't Derrick.

I would be surprised if they did, and wouldn’t be mad at them if they didn’t do anything today and Watson got to play.

After sitting a year out, let Watson play a series or two in preseason and remember what it’s like to play in the NFL.

Then take it all away from him.
I really like this line of thinking.

You know what.. If you posted this a year and a half ago, I would've laughed you right off the board.. Now I completely agree with you. Deshaun Watson IS actually dumber than VY and his trips to the Cheesecake factory 😆

Not a very high bar to clear for though.. even Ryan Leaf could pull that one off.

What Watson did was unprecedented.. unprecedentedly stupid.

Trevor Lawrence looks like as soon as he was pulled from the game, he ran back to the locker room and smoked out. Lol

Still better than going back and having to be babysat to make sure you didn’t gets grabbing with the massage therapist. What is up with this generation of QBs, Lawrence looks like he’s high all the time, Mahomes can’t control his crazy brother and girlfriend, Murray has to have it literally written in his contract that he has to study game film and Watson......yeah.

Makes me glad the biggest personal knock on Mills so far is his Reed Richards neck.

This country is struggling to produce grown ass men these days.. just overgrown children? (I'm going to leave Mahomes out of this, my family is crazy AF too).

I don't put much weight into the wonderic test or any other I.Q. test either. Just feel you can't really gauge someone's I.Q. just by asking them a bunch of random questions.
Agreed, it can't judge people and their abilities. I'm from a smart family. Much more was expected out of me than what I have accomplished. What some have failed to take into account is personality. The ability to relate to people is far greater than any IQ test you can take. With that said, Derrick is still a dumbazz.

Clemson trash in Lawrence case

Kyler is a guy that has always gotten by on his athletic ability. Now it's up to him if he wants to do what the GOATS do. I'm guessing it's not going to happen and the Cards are going to always be the bridesmaid and never the bride for the next decade with Kyler at the helm

I said the same thing about Derrick 2 yrs ago and my thought process hasn't changed. The only difference is that the McNair's we're able to get out of being married to Derrick.
