Sexual Assault Suits Against Watson

Do we have any lawyers or pretend lawyers on the board these days ? Infantrycak was the only one in these parts I knew of but of course he's long gone by now.
What's with Buzzbutt moving this to the Houston PD and District Attorney ? That's when it gets into the criminal justice system, right, but there's no money there for him and his clients ?
I dunno is this a bluff which is part of his strategy meant to induce a settlement proposal from DW4 ?

This is no bluff.

After presenting the evidence to law enforcement and the DA , the state takes over from that point and its a criminal proceeding from that point forward but is a separate action from the civil one and neither Buzbee nor the complainants can "call it off" , that's up to the DA to decide.

The stakes for Watson are prison time for the criminal proceeding rather than financial.

Harvey Weinstein is sitting in prison based on testimony alone. This does not look good for Watson. I can't believe a number of teams are still interested in him!

Not only that but he has learned from his mistakes and won’t put himself in these types of predicaments.

Hopefully he comes out of this more humble and more respectful to women.

The team can only suspend him for up to 6 games for that "conduct detrimental to the team"

The league can suspend him indefinitely.

Some other interesting parts of the Policy is that an incident must be reported by the team "promptly"..........the team knew of inappropriate activities for at least 1 month (and probably much longer) and still played dumb.

It is important to remember that the obligation to report is a continuing one, and is not satisfied simply by making an initial report of an incident. The obligation includes reporting on a timely basis all information of which a club or player becomes aware.

If the team only knew he was hiring massage therapists there was nothing to report. It is very likely that the team didn't know anything illegal might be going on until they said they did, when the suit was filed. I don't see how the team is culpable for something Watson did on his own time, his own dime and behind closed doors. I really don't think Watson was reporting to the team that he was doing something wrong.

If I was the FO I would tell Nick to get the best deal for him and trade him NOW. Before the NFL and maybe HPD come down on him.

Yeah, I bristled up because I've got multiple people coming at me twisting what I've said into something I didn't. I have no problem with people saying I'm wrong. But don't twist what I said into something I didn't. You just did it again in this post -- where did I say that these women are prostitutes? I've said what feels like a hundred times now that I DON'T KNOW what kind of profiles these women have. How exactly did you twist that into me saying that his accusers are prostitutes?

Yeah but it’s 6 games per incident right. So figure 6 games times however many days he’s sentenced to and it gets up there in numbers really fast. Pretty sure he’d have trouble finding an arbiter to side with him on this. :shades:

You are probably right. I don’t think he was walking around saying "Hey that massage therapist from Instagram... I tried to get a happy ending but she tripping. I got the old oral from one before her..." But, they may have known for a little while. Seeing it was reported that Buzzbee contacted Watson (who claims he had no idea about everything) in I think January. At the time he was asking for a dollar amount that Watson should have paid instantly.

His "manage/lawyer" at the time should have been fired yesterday or sooner, really blew this one.

It wouldn't matter if they were. A hooker is paid for sexual acts. However, if they say "rape" it is rape. You don't have to be squeaky clean about your life to file a charge like this. Plus, who saw Watson doing this? I went back and looked at a former teammate said something that seems to point that Watson has done a lot of things via Instagram. Not too smart

A lot people in his circle knew about these off the field antics. And I bet you he bragged about some of these encounters. Not only that he talked trash about the ones that didn’t want to satisfy him in that type of manner.

Yes , if she said no then that’s rape. Shoots if your wife tells you no ( for whatever reason) and you still take it anyways. She can file rape charges against you.

Not to mention this is the classic he said she said. Unless there is a smoking gun we will never know the truth. No matter how many ladies claim it. They still need to prove it. His reputation is going to take a hit regardless of the outcome or truth. Poor decisions led him here.

In the criminal trial they have to prove it unanimously to the jury. In the civil trial they only have to convince a majority that the plaintiffs have been damaged and deserve to be compensated. The burden of "proof" is much lower in the civil trial.

meh....all yall arguing about all this, why don't we wait until Monday when Buzzby turns over his stuff to the police. Until we get back a police report all this is just bullshit.

However, I would lay a quick $10 early on not seeing Watson in the NFL this year. LOL

Yes & no... & maybe.

We're never going to know. A jury might reach a verdict. A judge may award penalties. But we'll never know the truth.

Most likely settlements will be made & if "victims" aren't willing to testify criminal charges usually aren't levied.
