Can you set free agency aside? What if the Texans find an OG and WR prior to the draft? Does that shift the priority to DT or nickel CB? The better teams fill needs during free agency period and take BPA in the draft. I don't know if the Texans are there quite yet, but that's the goal.

Even if Howard is the LG, Mason needs to go; primary need would be an offensive guard. Having said that, I don't necessarily think that that has to be a first round selection.
Free agency dream would be
Alaric Jackson left tackle 26 yoa
Will Fries RG
Trey Smith LG
Trade Tunsil for Bears two round 2 + round 3 + Amegadjie
If they want to fix the offense
Tyler Booker OG Alabama
Savion Williams WR TCU
Terrance Ferguson TE Oregon Can block and has reliable hands. Big dude
He certainly would be.The other day you mentioned the TE from PSU. I kind of like that idea. I think he'd be a big upgrade.
He certainly would be.
Go checkout Warren and Ferguson in both blocking and receiving. Also checkout Savion Williams and tell me what you think of this guy. He's got DUDE written all over him and I bet after the combine he's one of the top 50 guys and wont be available when the Texans pick.

A good DT would be nice but you can find value in the mid rounds and they are usually a bit cheaper as a FA option.Tunsil is far and away our best lineman.
I hope we don't use a 1st on a guard.
I've seen some talk about getting the TE out of PSU with our #1. Others have said safety. Some have said receiver. What about a DT?
I'm hoping they bring Dionte back and draft Savion in the 2nd rd. Take a weakness and make it a strength. Add a guy like Booker at 1-25 and hopefully be able to trade a 3rd for Mayer and the offense will look a lot better. It’s hard to put FA or a possible trade aside. Not to mention who walks off this team. But in a vacuum, I will say DT. If Diantae Johnson leaves…WR would be right there with DT for me. And I’m thinking in terms of when you draft a guy. Like we need secondary guys badly…but more at a depth level.
Before I answer you, can you explain why you think we need a defensive tackle in round one?Tunsil is far and away our best lineman.
I hope we don't use a 1st on a guard.

Do we need upgrades or do we need dire need positions filled? The other day you mentioned the TE from PSU. I kind of like that idea. I think he'd be a big upgrade.
Now you talking, he is not just a speedster. This young man gets great separation and was not used to the best of his skill set with Texas due to the other wide receivers. His hi ankle injury did impact his last season. I think he could be there at high round 2. Also, if we do trade down to pick up an extra round two, I would consider using on him. We definitely need to reload our wide receiver corps as we basically have Nico Collins and no one else. Johnson may not return if he has a great playoff.4.28 40? This kid looks amazing.

This kid seems to have ligit speed as he' s got a sub 10.5 100 & sub 22.0 200, i,e: the kid can fly. So I dunno what kind of a football player is he ?4.28 40? This kid looks amazing.

PFF sucks, good thing games aren't decided by PFF stats.Per PFF our top DT's rank 66, 66, & 75. However, I don't believe I said we have to use a first round pick.
Do we need upgrades or do we need dire need positions filled?
If you look at the structure of the favorite teams for Superbowl, we have dire needs on the offensive line. This year, it's not just me saying it. If we scrimp on the OL, we're going to ruin CJ and fall farther down list of competitors !
My answer…
1. Cut Howard and Mason after June 1st.
2. Draft Greene (Georgia) and Carmona (Arkansas).
3. Continue development of Patterson, Scruggs, and Broeker.
4. Sign UFA’s OC-Kelly and LG-Risner to bridge the OL until their replacements are ready to go.

You mentioned #1 with guard and TE then you connected safety and WR in that vein finally asking about DT without suggesting a lower pick. I just followed the rabbit droppings.Tunsil is far and away our best lineman.
I hope we don't use a 1st on a guard.

I agree a thousand percent! I am pushing for free agency to redo 3/5 of our offensive line.If you look at the structure of the favorite teams for Superbowl, we have dire needs on the offensive line. Cutting Howard and Mason post June 1st brings $24 million in cap savings. APY of ~18 per annum but first season of ~10-12 for Will Fries and Trey Smith guards.Opto, I understand the method to that madness .... I really do. But it's kind of .... you get what you pay for ! With the exception of Tunsil and possibly Blake Fisher, we don't have any other starters .... they do not have the talent to be starting NFL linemen .... IMHO.

So I am definitely watching that game Friday night between Texas & Ohio State: Is that the best college game for the # of elite NFL prospects this weekend ?
Yes it should be a great game to watch. Also be aware that Isaiah Bond is recovering from a high ankle sprain and probably will not be anywhere close to 100%. I would not be shocked to see him come out of the game at some point.I think so but the Thursday night will also have its share of prospects.
1. Cut Howard and Mason after June 1st.
It would be about bringing in healthier, younger players with similar if not better rankings.Their PFF rankings are 39th and 45th. I don't think they are the problem on the OL.
Your planning on ditching the zbs?My answer…

I would be happy with Patterson, but I don't trust him to stay healthy.Opto, I understand the method to that madness .... I really do. But it's kind of .... you get what you pay for ! Kelley and Risner both were awesome players when they came out .... I remember Brunskill impressing me with athleticism, and I think size or strength .... or both ! Oh yeah .... I liked the name .... gotta be tough !I would be happy with Patterson, but I don't trust him to stay healthy.
My answers would be
Draft Booker and sign Kelly, Daniel Brunskill in FA.
I'm not sure Risner is a good fit if they keep running a straight up ZBS.Kelley and Risner both were awesome players when they came out .... I remember him impressing me with athleticism, and I think size or strength .... or both !
Their PFF rankings are 39th and 45th. I don't think they are the problem on the OL.
Are you one of them that puts a lot of faith in what PFF says? Our safety grades are 13 & 18. Our top 3 WR are 2(Collins) 22(Diggs), & 42(Dell).
Our TE are 39(Schultz) and 64(Stover).
RB is 20.
QB is 14.
LB is 24, 26, 52.
CB is 19 & 37
Are you one of them that puts a lot of faith in what PFF says?
How can they grade a player when they don't know what he's supposed to be doing?PFF acknowledges that they're grading system isn't full proof as they're not privvy to the calls from the OC/DC.
I would agree with this if it was the same guys grading all the players across the league at a certain position. It's not, It's individuals grading certain games,I think PFF has its place. I don’t trust them on an absolute basis in a vacuum, but when they use the same criteria across the league, it’s at least a fair look at guys as they compare with their colleagues.
Example PFF has Fisher ranked pretty low and after watching every game of his I think he's done a good job for a rookie and his future is bright. Now he did give up a sack last game, so maybe PFF is harsh on their grading systems when a guy gives up a sack. Overall I think PFF is a part of the puzzle and not a be all end all. Trust what your lying eyes are trying to tell you, not some dude at PFF.How can they grade a player when they don't know what he's supposed to be doing?
Exactly! It would be different if they had a Bruce Matthews (eg. lineman) grading linemen instead of a Chris Collingsworth grading linemen and linebackers and safeties etc.Trust what your lying eyes are trying to tell you, not some dude at PFF.
X2 on Ward. He’s a stud..If they want to fix the offense
Tyler Booker OG Alabama
Savion Williams WR TCU
Terrance Ferguson TE Oregon Can block and has reliable hands. Big dude
My dream draft would be
Rd.1 Tyler Booker OG Alabama
Rd.2 Savion Williams WR TCU
Rd.3 Andrew Mubuka S Texas
Rd.4 Terrance Ferguson TE Oregon
Rd.5 Rocket Sanders RB South Carolina
Rd.6 Will Lee CB Texas A&M
Re-sign Dionte Johnson
I would spend FA money on Charvarius Ward (Love this guy as a player and a person, my heart goes out to him and he would be reunited with Ryans.)
Ryan Kelly C Colts
