Seth Payne Released...per David Dalatti

Good luck to Seth. He always gave 110%. I will always remember how devastating it was to lose him for the season in that N.O. game a couple of years back.

I suspect the first of many cuts to come.

Good luck to Seth, tho'. Hope he finds a starting job outside of our division.

One of my favorite players. Just couldn't stay on the field. Good luck, Seth.

Enjoyed him. Too bad he got hurt so often, he could have been one of the greats. I guess this means he refused a restructured contract.

I like Seth as well. However, we need to start ridding ourselves of the old regime. It doesn't mean you dislike a player to say they're 'infected' but our old mentality was infected with losing.

I believe Kubiak will bring in the right people to alleviate us from that mindframe but unfortunately, it means getting rid of some of the people we all like personally.

From day one he has been the best noseguard /DT out the bunch. Sad to see him go, but it needs to be done to better this dline.
Hope he lands somewhere fast and has an injury free carrer from here on out.

Good Luck Seth!

hmmm...you could be right but maybe it might be making room for weaver at dt also..and a DE at #8??

Or, it could be that Payne is overpaid for his health status and that we just had to spend our money better but has nothing to do with the draft pick until we get through Free Agency and the cuts/releases of all teams.

I smell at DT at 8

Okoye Maybe ?

I'm guessing that because of the personnel on our line he'd be the best choice...

That way we wouldn't have to rely on Weaver getting pressure from the DE spot...We'd have someone that could get pressure from inside...???

I wish Seth the best of luck. He's a classy guy & will be missed. I'm sure the Browns or 49ers would be interested in his services. The 49ers sure have enough cap room to add some quality defensive players like Payne to their roster this offseason.

Does anyone know how much dead money this adds to the cap?

Payne had two years left on a contract that gave him a $4.5 million bonus. So, that means he still had $2.25 million left to be amortizied. Since Payne would have drawn a $3.2 million salary for '07, the Texans saved money against the cap.

Bummer.
I too liked Seth, wish he coulda stayed more injury-free.

Thank You Seth! And good luck to you in the future!

I really like Seth. Sorry to see him go.

I guess a DT is ok, but haven't we drafted enough first rd d line bust over the past few years? TJ, Babin, and now Mario, and not one is worth it. We can find a tackle in FA or later in the draft. I say go a new direction.

This would be a good time for Carr to blame all his problems on Seth Payne....if he can figure out how to do that.

Moulds is surprising (to me anyway)

still remember when he got the td v the eagles...best moment of 2006

Sweet! I didn't realize that.

Yup cause Mario was just a huge bust, yup that's about as asinine as the Carr for Pro-Bowl comments a from earlyy in the season.

Good luck to Seth. There goes one of the hardest workers and well liked members of the team, and a guy who was great in the community.

I love guys who maximize whatever abilities they have.

Wonder if he might retire, or looks elsewhere to play atleast another year ?

I think he can still find work as a NT for one of the 3-4 teams. If I had to venture a guess I'd say the 49ers will snatch him up. He can start there & perhaps they'll pick up a young DT/NT type in the draft with one of their many picks who will eventually replace Payne.

Seth was one of my favorite players. Sad to see him go but hopefully he'll catch on with another team. When healthy he really pushed the pocket and he was an important player for us.

He was touted as being better than Peppers, and was the #1 overall pick.

Do you think he lived up to either of those billings?

I said he wasn't worth it. If you think he was worth the #1 overall, I want some of what you've been smoking. :ok:

And you are able to tell that after 1 season, half of which he played on one foot?

Guy played most of a season with a bad foot injury, and you think he's a bust. Was he worth the #1, not certain yet I'll give him pass for most of last year due to the foot thing.

Riddle me this, how #1 picks are actually worthy of being #1?
