I just read on Rotoworld the Texans/Broncos will be coaching at the Senior Bowl.

There's alot of unknown OL talent going to be there. Crosby/Rankins/Parker/Parris/Cappa/Crabtree are guys to keep an eye on. The new GM should be able to find a couple of starters in the 3rd. A really talented group.

Or they could usr the free agency period to address the line. James from Miami is free. Also there are a few other linemen their old team might have to let walk.

I actually liked James alot coming out of college. He had a couple of good yrs in Miami. But his play fell off after the Martin hazing incident. If healthy and maybe that's why his play fell off, then I would consider him as a reclamation project. But I would heavily vet him and make sure his heart was in the game before signing him.

I would give Pugh big $$$$ before signing James though.

Is coaching in the Senior Bowl an advantage to the Texans? You would think they would get a good look at the players and identify their strengths and weaknesses. But they could get too close to them, and possibly bypass better players that aren’t in the game.

I remember Capers staff coached in the 2003 Senior Bowl and the Texans drafted several of those players. It was hit and miss. Dave Ragone and Bennie Joppru among the misses. I was particularly disappointed that the Texans took Joppru over Jason Witten.

I think James was ranked pretty high by PFF last year .

Watson didn't play in the Senior Bowl, so maybe not all good players participate. lol

Shame they didn't let him play his beat side... he was better at LT than he was at RG

He may have been a decent LG

LG was his best spot. That's the kind of thing that makes me think we have no friggin' idea what talent X or any of the OL (other than Giawhiffleo) have. And scares me whoever we draft or bring in as FA won't be developed and utilized to their potential.

Caserio/Gaine should be familiar with James since they all were in the same division.

I’m still grafling with Texans not having a first or second. Senior Bowl usually has numerous 3rd round and later prospects so it’s certainly a must watch with Texans coaching staff, such as it is, on premises.

Keep your eyes on Brandon Parker, Timmon Parris and Alex Cappa in the Sr. Bowl. Small school guys that can play. Good thing is 2 of the 3 will be starting very good/with great OL potential in the NFL . The new GM just has to be able to get the right one, this is why I would actually take 2 of these guys in the 3rd if available. Playing the odds.

I also want to see my boy Crabtree whip some a** in the east west practices. Tough guy with pretty good feet. RT only but it's not like the Texans couldn't use one of those. LOL

I'm interested in former Longhorn and Missouri City native Desmond Harrison. He has red flags, but finally got to play a full season at Division II West Georgia. Scouts must think he has a chance if selected to play in Mobile.

Desmond Harrison, OT, West Georgia
Height: 6-7. Weight: 300.
Projected 40 Time: 5.10.
Projected Round (2018): 2-3.
1/6/18: Harrison was part of the Texas program before being dismissed by then-coach Charlie Strong. Failed drug tests were the reason for Harrison's dismissal. He landed at West Georgia, where he has played well for the Wolves. Team sources say that Harrison has the skill set of a first- or second-round pick. He has NFL size, quickness, athleticism and length. Team sources say they don't think Harrison will get out of the second day of the 2018 NFL Draft and that his stock could catch fire at the Senior Bowl.

Walterfootbll also seems to like him, but it seems he's got some off field issue which often disqualifies propspects from getting on McNaiurs team but maybe the new GM can pevail upon the owner to be a bit more toleant, maybe take a risk now and then on these types of players if the potential is there.

The Texans staff will coach him and should get a feel for his makeup. Does anyone have Harrison's age? Seems like he's been out of HS for awhile, maybe 6 years.

Texans have tried a 'Harrison' before and it did't work :D

hoping Milton Miller falls to 68 but only one site has that. I have Oneill, og Braden Smith and Crosby in third. Some have the latter avail at our 4th.

Just as important as the player is the type of oline . I personally think with Watson the line should be more agile types. Sorta like we had before. Having mobile, agile guys gives you the chance to run more action and movement plays. I'm not saying don't draft a big strong road grater type, I'm just saying the profile might need to change back because of DW4 mobility.

For those keeping track at home, senior bowl weigh in just now, Poona Ford measured at 5’11 5/8 with wing span of 80 1/4. Folks, that’s the average wingspan of a 6’8 man

Scientists once theorized that bumble bee flight defied physics due to their small wings & rotund frames. Poona Ford is a bumble bee, he defies football physics. How does a player that short/stout occupy so much space/multiple blockers?...ball get off, wingspan, girth & leverage

Here is some information off the WalterFootball site rumor mill about the O-linemen at the Senior Bowl.

"The 2017 NFL Draft and the 2018 NFL Draft have been down years at the offensive tackle position. While the lack of edge-blocking talent has been noticeable, this could be a good year for talent on the interior of the offensive line. Sources at multiple teams believe there could be four interior offensive linemen who get selected in the first two rounds of the 2018 NFL Draft. The first one to come off the board will be Notre Dame's Quenton Nelson. He is among the elite players in the 2018 NFL Draft, and one area scout who covered Nelson described him like this, "He's Zach Martin on steroids." Nelson shouldn't get out of the top 10.

Ohio State guard/center Billy Price has a good buzz about him as well. Team sources say he has gotten higher grades than former first-rounders Laken Tomlinson and Josh Garnett. Price looks like a likely pick in the back half of Round 1 during the 2018 NFL Draft.

UTEP guard Will Hernandez has a lot of positive buzz around him. In speaking to an AFC general manager, they loved what they saw out of Hernandez during the season and was eager to see how he handled the jump in competition in Mobile. Hernandez has played well in practice, showing serious power at the point of attack. Team sources also say that Hernandez has impressed them in the interviews. He could get first-round consideration in the 2018 NFL Draft, but could be more likely to go early in Round 2.

Iowa center James Daniels is in the same boat as Hernandez with the late first-round being possible, and the early second-round being perhaps more likely. Sources say that Daniels doesn't have a great looking body, but they love a lot of his tape. They were raving how defenders are completely beaten once Daniels gets his hands on them.

Another factor aiding these blockers is how the free agent market has exploded with huge contracts being given to guards. Some teams won't be able to meet the veterans' prices and will feel it is better value to get a younger, cheaper, yet very talented option with one these players. All of these blockers should hear their names called in the first two rounds of the 2018 NFL Draft, and all three could end up going as top-50 picks."

"Hernandez isn't the only offensive lineman who has impressed evaluators in the team meetings. Other players who have drawn rave reviews from their interviews have been Pittsburgh tackle Brian O'Neill and Nevada center Austin Corbett."

  • During the fall, WalterFootball.com was the first draft site to highlight North Carolina A&T's Brandon Parker as having created a buzz in the scouting community. Parker has continued the positive momentum at the Senior Bowl. In speaking with a general manager, they have been impressed by Parker and has his stock rising. That team entered this week with a fourth-round grade on Parker but they think he could rise into Day 2. Other teams also had Parker projected to the second day of the 2018 NFL Draft with third-round potential. With his height and the frame to add weight, teams feel that Parker could develop into being starter at right tackle.
  • Some team sources like Oregon offensive tackle Tyrell Crosby as well. However, they have concerns about Crosby's height at 6-foot-4. Teams like their offensive tackles to be an inch or two taller, but Crosby has impressed evaluators with his quick feet. In a draft weak at the offensive tackle, Crosby could end up being a second-day pick.

Sounds like Crosby could be there for the Texans in the 3rd rd and if Parker's stock doesn't rise too much after the Combine he could be there too. As always, a lot will depend on the teams evaluation and what they need, but it looks like this is shaping up to be a bad year for OT's, both in the Draft and in FA. This could mean the Texans will have to move up in the Draft if they targeted a specific OT they think will be gone by the time they pick in the 3rd.

Just noticed no one posting during game (NFL channel now) and almost half time. I'll try to offer some things.

No specific order as too much going on But CB Marcus Allen on defense sticks to WR and knocks pass out of target zone and directed yes directed ball to a trailing DB who intercepted. Beautiful break up but on replays, Allen in the air looks to the other DB and taps ball in his direction for easy INT. Super impressive awareness and ability by Marcus Allen.

OT Alex Cappa from Humboldt State has looked fairly good but as I type this he had 2 consecutive plays where he allowed opponent to hurry the QB.

North QB Tanner Lee has strong arm but not connecting with targets. Almost threw INT early second Q.

Need to possibly correct something on the above INT. A link I turned too for extra info has following
The North turned back the South's bid to widen its 15-point lead when former Blount High School standout JaMarcus King, a cornerback from South Carolina, broke up a pass in the end zone intended for Oklahoma State wide receiver James Washington, and safety Secdrick Cooper of Louisiana Tech came up with an interception on the batted ball.
They should show play again during half time. I will clarify.

Cappa will have to kick inside in the NFL. Probably needs a year in a NFL weight room to contribute. A couple of RBs really looked exciting, Kalen Ballage and Rashaad Penny.

O'Brien has compliments for QB Mike White from Western Kentucky. I liked this guy during season but he is not a Watson mobile type. 6'4" 225 White completed 66 percent of his passes in 2017 for 4,177 yards with 26 touchdowns and eight interceptions. He passed for one of the two TDs for South so far.
The "talkers" during half time also liked White. Bear with me if you send questions,

are you watching? If so help out with what you see. I've not watched Cappa but agree with your comments.

QBs Baker and Josh Allen not impressive IMO. LB Tre left game with arm injury but not sure as to damage. * ANnouncer said Allen looked nervous and his eyes were everywhere. I am not focusing on QBs or players that are thought to go top 60.

It's tough to really judge QBs in all star games, though I agree with the analyst Jones. It's hard to see the entire o-line on every play, but the OTs seem to be a step behind the edge rushers. I don't know if the Texans are looking at receiver in the 3rd, but Tre'Quan Smith looks like a solid #2 WR.

Josh Allen must have read my notes because he comes out in 2nd half play good. A long pass the Allen runs thru middle for long game and then long pass that WR lost but DB interfered. Has now thrown two beautiful TDs 3rd Q.
OG Colby Gossett Appalachian ST. looked really good. I gave some info on him elsewhere and he is making me look good. Beau Nunn who played next to Colby at right tackle is on my board for day 3.

OMG!!

Never heard of him until this post.

I want him.

I know the talent level wasn’t great, but jeez...

He has some things you just can’t teach. That athleticism and the desire to bury opponents.

I’d take him and groom him as the LT from day 1. If Davenport can develop as well you could have a couple of really good bookend tackles.

But holy moly, I’m pumped after watching this guy.

He's gotten separation all day.
yeah he is having great game that will help him in draft. Crennel has South defense pressuring QB like crazy. Hernandez just screwed up and admitted to QB. Cannot get much of a read on Crosby and O'Neil. Man they are moving this game along hard to catch players. OG Gossett 6'5 ish 305 blocked well now on play and worked his way down field. OT Brandon Parker worked to recover ball on a fumble.

UTx Dt Poona Ford playing well and stripped ball from QB. RB Rashad Penny having good day with great stats in college. Marcus Davenport strips and scooped ball to Haynes who takes it to end zone.

QB Tanner Lee throws INT. This guy is hard to evaluate.

They've talked up small school - Cappa at every practice and the game this week. I haven't seen him win one play. The small school lineman from Maine has been a standout at both tackles today. Noteboom, who was one of my favorites, has looked slow to me all week .... same with Crosby, Rankin, and Teller. Hernandez and Wynn are really talented, but they'll be gone before we pick. I think Toth is a future starter .... but he's not available for two years. O'Neill is a gifted athlete but needs a year of coaching and 10 - 12 pounds. Boy, I surely wish that there was more talent in free agent lineman this year .... there was last year! These are just my opinions, and could very well be worthless. I have admitted before that I never played one down on the line on either side of the ball. Ooh, I just saw Brandon Parker, (Davenport's twin), win a double spinner ! Please feel free to attack !

The OTs have struggled with the edge rushers in this game. O'Neill has not looked like a 1st rounder. Just some really good defenders, especially on the South side.

The North QBs got the hype this week. But the South QBs have outplayed them in the game. Credit to O'Brien and Ryan to get these guys ready. While I expect the Texans to find a vet backup QB this offseason, I'm predicting they will end up with one of these South QBs as a #3.

Texans should put a spider on their helmet .

game over will try to catch up on my notes and post. QB Allen must have headlock his senior bowl coach to get back into game second half and it worked for him as MVP for North. South 45- 16 winner. Penny 9 for 63 yards. Hopefully Texans got all film they need to evaluate players. For those not familiar with this Bowl, players are often asked to play positions other than college role.

I like Cappa as an OG that can learn to play RT.

He's done well this week he's had issues adjusting to the speed of the big school guys. But he's a tough dude that should be a really good OG.

The only OL in this game that I think can start day 1 at LT is Crosby..

Well, him and Brett Toth. I think I would trade a 2019 3rd for a 2018 4th and pick Toth. Smart guy and Starting LT in 2 yrs. He reminds me of Matt Light.

I probably wouldn't either.

I do wish they had a 5th rd pick. There are going to be OL guys like Toth/Henderson/Richardson available. Also a TE like Brennenman, Thomas available in that area of the draft.

Yea I don't think he's a tackle in the NFL. Today when was playing @ LT when he was embarrassed badly vs OK edge rusher Okoronkwo but he might be ale to play in the NFL
at guard. They sure gave him lots of chances today as he was playing at LT, LG, and also RG. Have no clue if Devlin was impressed enough with him to draft him ?

In the original Brown deal, Houston got a 5th from Seattle they had picked up from the Raiders. When the CB Lane failed his physical, the Texans got the Seahawks 3rd, but had to not only give back that 5th, but kick in their own.
