SEC rules: Florida, Alabama are 1 and 2

Wolf

100% Texan
Alabama’s steady rise in the rankings has left the Crimson Tide with a clear view of No. 1 Florida.

Alabama jumped Texas into second-place behind top-ranked Florida in the AP Top 25 on Sunday, giving the Southeastern Conference the Nos. 1 and 2 teams in the country.

The Crimson Tide moved up one spot after rolling over Mississippi 22-3. Texas, which had been No. 2 all season, slipped a spot after sputtering early in a 38-14 victory against Colorado.

The Gators and Tim Tebow beat LSU 13-3. They have been an overwhelming No. 1 since the preseason, but support for Alabama has steadily grown.

I thought Bama was being investigated for some kind of violations?

Don't like Sabin at all.

If Florida and Alabama remain undefeated, they will face off in the SEC championship game.

There can be only one.

Yep, the SEC will only produce 1 team to the NC game. If Texas wins out they will go. Not that they deserve to go, however that is how college football works. That being said I don't think Texas is going to win out. I know they don't play anybody however as bad as they have been looking someone is bound to beat them. It could easily happen next week vs OU.

There must be some pretty high expectations in Austin if people are complaining about how bad they look when they are #7 in the nation in total offense and #4 in the nation in total defense.

With that said, Texas better bring their A game to Dallas or they are going down. They are a second half team but you can't just not show up for the first half against good teams.

Alabama and Florida deserve to be 1 and 2. There is no doubt in my mind about that.

Regardless of stats they just haven't looked a team that is heading towards a NC. They have looked sloppy against some pretty inferior competition. I am a Horns fan but being a realist.

There is no doubt that they have looked sloppy. But I think this team is capable of running the table because of its defense.

At this point, I think it is likely that they lose one conference game if the offense continues to be inconsistent.

But they have a chance. This defense can carry the team to the title game.

The SEC overall depth is down this year. Go look at the SEC East standings. Georgia is 3-3 and Tennessee is 3-3. Only good team outside of Florida is South Carolina. Don't know how good SCAR really is.

SEC West has a little more. LSU is extremely overrated. They barely won their games against Washington, Mississippi State, and a 3-3 Georgia team. Their other wins are against Vandy , who lost to Army this week, and ULL. Ole Miss was overrated from the start.

Alabama is the best team in the country IMO.

Have you been watching Alabama? They easily have the best defense in the top 25, but their offense is absolutely horrid at times. They are easily as inconsistent as Texas. I wouldn't be surprised too see Alabama or Texas lose, and if the Tide faces off with Florida, I don't think it will even be close.

That said, I'm perfectly OK with the #2 ranking.

So you're OK with the Bama ranking at #2 and Texas being #3?

As a Texas fan I guess all I am saying is they really need to step it up if they want to be considered a real contender for the NC. As Colorado were up 14-3 yesterday I couldn't help but keep thinking about Colorado getting demolished by Toledo giving up 54 points and wondering if Texas was really worthy of being considered a NC contender.

Sure they came back and in the end the game didn't look close however great teams demolish teams like Colorado from the opening kickoff to the final whistle.

Yep. I agree with you about Texas; I'm just saying that Bama has shown a lot of inconsistency on the offensive side of the ball. I am not a Mark Ingram fan, at least not they way they keep trying to use him. And their QB is just awful sometimes. They need to run Upchurch a bit more and then mix in Ingram, and let the QB just manage the game for a year.

If Texas ever played anyone OOC they wouldn't be in this situation.

I feel like we have been over this a million times already. Texas had Utah and Arkansas on the schedule. They both backed out.

It is hard to find a decent replacement at the last minute. Wyoming and Louisana Monroe were the best they could do.

Utah has now backed out on Florida and Texas in successive years. Way to play with the big boys and prove you belong...

Yes, exactly. The only people that would remotely make excuses and throw out stat lines for Texas's offense are Longhorn homers that want to act like there isn't a problem simply because they've been beating inferior teams. The Longhorns offense has looked like crap lately. They don't run the ball well but that was expected, so no biggie there. But once again every game Greg Davis refuses to open up the offense and makes it easy for other teams to defend their offense. That game against Colorado was flat out ugly on the offensive side of the ball. Texas put up 17 points on offense and that last TD was in garbage time.

Thank god Muschamp is there now, or this team would probably have lost 3 games this season, and I'm not joking one bit. He's the only coach on that entire staff that knows how to get the players pumped up and and ready to take over. I know if Texas does play Florida in the NC, right now they are not ready for Florida. Can they get there by the end of the season? Of course, but I won't gamble on Greg Davis opening up an offense that's struggling with their 8 yard passes.

Wouldn't it help if Texas would quit playing junior college type teams at beginning of season?

We can always be proud of defeating UT of El Paso teams.

The Gators do the exact same thing. The Longhorns' schedule is more difficult than the Gators' schedule. The Big 12 South is better than the SEC East.

The only reason the Gators are #1 this year is because they won the NC last year and they were preseason #1. If Texas had those two things going for them, they'd be #1 also.

Isn't Joe Pendry running their offense? Just sayin.....

Too bad that they don't factor teams that back out of games into the ranking, because year in and year out it looks like we just want to play creampuffs in non-conference.

I really have no problem with Texas' or Florida's schedule. If they want to go for the sure wins then do it. They play a tough enough schedule as it is. I don't think there is anything wrong with that. You have to fill it out somehow.

I don't see why people criticize the big schools for playing weaker competition. They have to play somebody and not everybody wants to play them. As long as you keep the FCS teams off of there I am happy.

I think it is awesome that Alabama and Virginia Tech had the stones to get that thing done. But instead of vilifying Texas and Florida for who they played I think we should be praising Alabama and Virginia Tech.

Call me stupid and call me a homer, but I think Boise State should be ranked 4th in the nation and Texas should not have moved down. Bama's QB isnt that good and I still dont think that Florida is all that good this year without Murphy and Harvin. On top of that Boise runs a great ZBS system and the Texans should be looking at their linemen. Hell the Texans should have drafted Clady over Brown.

Sure would've been easy to draft Clady had Denver not taken him before we had the chance to.

I don't really have a problem with it either. It's what you get when you are good every year, you can start with easy teams.

They do play FCS teams though.

I really like when teams schedule big time matchups though, as a fan anyway.

How about Oklahoma? They scheduled BYU and Miami as OOC games. They also are going to play Florida State either next year or the year after.

I do think that after the season is over with, Texas will have a better strength of schedule than Florida though. At the end of the year the Florida schedule is going to look much easier than it does now.

The SEC just doesn't have the overall depth it normally has. Outside of Florida and Alabama, there aren't a lot of good teams. A lot of above average teams but not a lot of good ones.

I doubt that UT is even top 10 if they play anything that resembles an SEC schedule. Frankly the Big 12 is way, way overrated.
