Sean Salisbury: Texans Are Playoff Contenders

texasguy346

Mod Squad
Sean "The Steak" Salisbury said on SportsCenter that the Houston Texans are Contenders for the playoffs. Not bad. Finally a little love from ESPN, but not much. He said Carr would become a star this year, and our defense would surprise alot of people. Hmm, wonder where I've heard that before. Oh yeah, we've been saying the same thing for months. I agree with most of the things he said, but its all contingent on staying healthy and a couple lucky breaks. Hopefully he's right on this one, and we'll garner more attention nationally.

Seattle Seahawks - Superbowl Contender

Detroit Lions - Playoff Pretender

Jacksonville Jaguars - Playoff Pretender

and best of all...

Houston Texans - Playoff CONTENDER :boxing:

Salisbury is an obnoxious Asz! However, things like that still warm my heart even though I have no respect for the guy.

Better yet, I heard Randy Cross on ESPN radio this morning absolutely laud David Carr and the Texans- I got goose bumps... Normally, I can't stand him either- but it's sure fun to hear!

I'd perfer the Texans come into the season like a stealth bomber and suprise some teams. We don't need any attention yet.

Sounds like a lot of press saw the game against the Cowboys and are going to start a bandwagon train similar to the Jacksonville chaos a month ago.

I thought somebody was keeping track of all these peoples position on the Texans. Is Ditka a host on a show? I would love to see the apology when the Texans are .500 or better this year.

As a really big Texans fan, yea it feels good to get this positive press. Was it
based on our performance against the Cowboys Saturday ? They may not be
very good anyhow. And anyhow, if we go 4-0 in preseason, it won't mean one
damn thing Sunday at noon, Sept. 12. I think I'll wait 'till October before
I start speculating for real about our playoffs chances.

it doesnt mean a whole lot, but i got an email about preseason games from the nfl, im sure someone else got it too. but here it is:

"The NFL preseason is here, and winning games can be important. Just look at the numbers. The past 10 Super Bowl champions had a combined 30-12 (.714) preseason record in the year they won the Super Bowl. Nine of those 10 teams posted .500 or better preseason records. Last summer, the eventual Super Bowl teams - New England and Carolina - were unbeaten (8-0) in the preseason."

so does it really really matter idonno:

The Marv Levy Bills were almost always 0-4 in preseason yet they made it to 4 Super Bowls. Sure they lost them all but what other team has gone to 4 straight?

it sounds like ditka will be eating his words soon enought, but he said some of the stupidest thing like the team is going nowhere and has bad personel. but this is the year for so much to happen, so we should just sit back and let it ride right to the playoffs.

Ditka is an idi*t. Check him out eyeballing his bride to be. Ha haha!

I think that he knows that Charlie C. got over on him and wanted to spew his personal venom toward the team that now employs him. Frankly I dont think he knows the first thing that he is talking about.

Go take some Levitra Mike.

On a further note - I would be estatic if the Texans go 8-8. Don't listen to Salzy or put much faith into what he is saying since they seem to do that for every team that performs well in pre-season. i.e. the Bills last pre-season.

I seem to remember Steak boy not being too high on the Texans earlier in the year. Wonder how many times he has boken his ankle jumping on and off of bandwagons?

It is great to hear all of the national media guys pumping up the Texans. But the question is do they really believe what they are saying, or are they covering their back sides so when Texans make a run, they look like they knew it all along. :twocents:

I think that's exactly what it is.

Salisbury is the textbook definition of a talking head. I think what rubs me wrong about him is that he actually believes he was a good player. I'd rather listen to Michael Irvin - at least there's a little entertainment value there. If Salisbury is talking, I'm usually letting it go in one ear and out the other. He's an obnoxius, stressed out egomaniac.

The way I see it is, none of these dudes had Carolina picked to go to the Super Bowl at this time last season. They were all talking about TB going all the way or Philly making it happen. None of that panned out. Our team is good and I have loved playing against people and seeing their faces when they realize they were in for a fight in this one or lossed to us. Anybody remember what the Pitt fans looked like or how the Bills fans started booing their team after we won the game?

That to me is the satisfaction of winning these games.

Acually, he has been really high on his radio show with him and John Clayton, it think it is Clayton. Clayton is high on them too, but they did say that the Texans would probably only have 7 wins a month ago. Must of seen the Cowboys game....

Fiddy is right about that. I listen to Clayton and Sean on the NFL Huddle on ESPN radio sometimes, and he hasn't ever said much bad about them, but he said around .500 for the Texans last month. He's just changed it to 9 or maybe 10 wins instead of 7 or 8. However, take it all with a grain of salt because you really don't hear any bad publicity about many teams in the NFL. The only team that I've seen everyone bash is the Chargers. Even though the Dolphins lost Ricky and David Boston most 'talking heads' still say they'll be at or around .500 for the year. If we do well then you'll have many people jumping on the bandwagon, and if we do poorly you'll have many people saying they knew it all along. The important thing is this is one of the first times that I've heard "Texans" and "contender" uttered in the same sentence by anyone in the national media. We've got three more weeks of this chatter before the real games begin so I'm sure we'll see more flip flopping. As for Ditka, I believe he'll be on NFL Live pretty regularly. So we'll have plenty of chances to rub it in his face. :hehe:

I caught the end and Salisbury just talked about Carr on the Dan Patrick show and said that he has superstar written all over him....

So we should be all excited now?

Q: What does Sean Salisbury know about the Texans and its players that we don't?

A: Absolutely nothing.

I think at this point we have all the tools to beat any team in the league. from here on out its injuries and mental toughness.

After the cowboys game, this just proves that we have all the tools we need.

The job Clayton and Salisbury do is all speculation and with the way teams come from no where since 1999 they have to cover their *****es and pick a team that played poorly for their worst to first predictions.

How do you like that, look's like the Texans are the flavor of the month... :thumbup

Guys, you are putting waaaay too much stock in how the Texans played against the Cowboys. It was just the first preseason game. The Texans have proven in regular season games that they can compete against any given team in the NFL. What they need to do is prove they can be more consistent and win the close games with consistency.

The cowboys game didn't prove a thing.

I have to disagree with you on this one...we once again proved we ARE the BEST FOOTBALL TEAM IN TEXAS!!!!!

WELL PUT BORN. However it does say something about the Cowboy's thats magnified with the ongoing QB controversy, but hey thats their problem not the Texans. If the Texans can consistantly focus on their game plan & forget about the press clippings they'll do alright. :twocents:

So far as my recollection goes, Salisbury has usually made a fair assessment of the Texans. Pasquarelli (sp?) also shows the Texans some love on occasion in written articles. I think the pre-season game vs. Dallas DID prove something, to say that it proved nothing to me is an overstatement. It proved we HAVE DEPTH, something that has restricted our team for the past two seasons. It didn't make me change my expectations of the team this season, but it sure did make me more excited after seeing how much more polished and deep we look.

True but there is one huge difference. Salisbury doesn't have a Houston Texan's bias. It is nice to hear a positive unbiased opinion voiced on national television.

Watched "NFL Live" other day, whoever was in moderators chair (can't remember who it was) think was wingo said Sean you slammed my pick of Carolina to beat Eagles in NFC...so have little respect for salisbury steak

More love from Salisbury. Dan Patrick on his radio show asked Sean who he would take at QB and then listed all the young QBs in the league and without hesitation he picked Carr.
