Scary thought

Grid

All Pro
according to people in the know.. the top 3 picks will be:

#1 Texans
#2 Saints
#3 Titans

Now.. for a trade down.. the #3 spot would be ideal for us because the first two picks will be Bush and Lienart.. unless something happens. so the #3 spot will give us the chance ot get Dbrick.. or whoever else we might want.

The scary thing is.. we seem to enjoy trading with Tennessee.. and Tennessee will most likely get quite a few compensatory picks, making them more likely to be interested in trading with someone.. AND they could use Bush or Lienart.

the scary part is that if we do trade with them.. we will be facing Bush or Lienart twice a season.

Just a thought.

From what I have read, McNair wants to play for Tennessee next season so I expect him to restructure. I see what you're saying though, maybe we can trade down to the 4 or 5 spot...

Which is why we are going to keep the pick and have Reggie play for us rather than against us twice a year.

The Titans are going to take Vince Young #3. He is going to be Steve McNair's apprentice and eventually succeed him.

If the Titans do get the #3 pick, then we might not be able to trade down any lower than them. Because I think honestly that if Leinart is off the board, the Titans' second choice might be Ferguson.

a Compensatory pick is an extra draft pick given by the league to "pay back" the team for any key free agents that the lost the previous offseason.

I am not sure on the formula or the requirements.. but Tennessee lost a lot of starters due to cap problems.. so you can expect them to get at least a couple of high compensatory picks.

I dont think a compensatory pick can be higher than the 3rd round though... and im not sure if a team can get TWO 3rd rounders or not.

Didnt know that Vinny.. makes sense though.

They may be more willing to trade their regular draft picks though.

I don't think we need anymore draft picks. In fact, I would rather us trade our two thirds for another second and possibly get both Jean Gilles and Leonard Pope.

Various thoughts:

1. Prolly true.

2. Ayyyyy! That is the worst case scenario. I'm a VY fan who hates the Titans. This combo would really be hard on me. I would hate to see him in puke blue flying meatball gear.

3. Makes total sense for them given the relationship between McNair and Young.

4. This is prolly a good situation for VY.

5. Must repeat Ayyyyyyy!

Young and Steve McNair became pretty close last off-season. Young is a very McNair-like young player...but bigger and stronger. I think that the Tacks may go this direction more than take the noodle-armed Leinart.

Bush, Pope, and Jean Gilles would be a very good first day in my opinion.

Though I might prefer to get Roderique Wright or Michael Huff over Leonard Pope.

That's funny, but VY hasn't said for sure he is coming out, it wouldn't suprise me too much if he did. I would love to see him stay his senior year and keep the Horns in bigtime contention.

its been much longer than that

Vince's uncle played basketball at alcorn state and knew mcnair. Vince attended McNair's camps in high school, and McNair took him under his wing and became his godfather

Who in the WORLD would want to go and play for the Saints?

I'm sorry to say it, but that's probably the LAST place any top draft pick wants to go and play. Quirky owner, disgruntled fans, displaced home-field, a coach that might be gone, a QB who is almost entirely fed up with the team, etc., etc., etc. etc. If you think the Texans are a black hole...take a look down San Antonio way.

Thus, the Saints at No. 3 pose a verrrrrrrrry interesting dilemma.

Does Brooks stay or go? If he is gone, look for the Saints to want Leinart, but will Leinart want the Saints? Bush wouldn't play for the Saints.

It could throw a wrench in a lot of teams' plans, and in a lot of top draft pick players' plans.

I'm thinking nobody wants to be the No. 3 guy. You're not exactly "thrilled" to be headed to Houston or Tennessee...but you sure as heck ain't wanting to play for N.O.

If you thought the S.D-N.Y. draft situation last year was ugly, you haven't seen anything yet. That's a powder keg just waiting to explode.

We make a deal with Tennessee this year and I'm going to come unglued. Somebody needs to sit down with Casserly and say "Do you remember how often you made deals with the Cowboys back when you were with the Redskins? Well that's how often you need to be making deals with the Titans"

One more deal like the Jason Babin deal and we're going to be solely responsible for half of the Titans starters.

I don't see the Titans going for Vince Young. I think the Titans are happy with what Billy Volek has shown when McNair has been injured. They will draft a defensive player.

You can hypothesize about Vince Young all you want, but until :pigfly: & he says he's coming out, I don't believe it.

I don't think Texas beats USC and he's going to want to come back & try again as well as shoot for the Heisman.

I am thinking the same thing. I believe Young will declare if this order is like this. Reason being, he could either play for his hometown Houston or with his Godfather in Tennessee in which case we would have another dominating QB on our hands twice a season for seasons to come.
