Say we end up with the #2 pick....

and bush goes to San Fran. Do we trade down the #2 pick with someone looking for a QB and possibly get more picks and a veteran player or two? Or do we stay put and take someone other than Leinart and throw this draft around all crazy?

I say we talk to a team, swap first rounders, and take one of the skilled position players that is actually worth a darn. We then turn our focus to the offensive line taking a Jonathan Scott or even a Winston, use our 2nd rounder on a TE like Dave Thomas or an MLB.

State your idea and your reason please.

That is when I say we trade down and get multiple picks. I just think that Bush is too good to pass up even if our line is in dire need of new talent. Like Steve Young said, Bush could be a transcendent talent in the league. But if we can't get him, I say that we trade our pick to the Saints or the Ravens or whoever and get all that we can. Then we can take Winston or Ferguson and build the line

Good idea, Thomas will be available much later in the draft, its very deep at TE (Lenorad Pope and Mercedes Lewis might both go in the first round). I still think we trade down if get the second pick. D'Brick is rated as the best O-lineman and 5th best overall by Kipper. We go after him in the first round and McNeil in the second. Solve our o-line problems for once and for all in one draft

I still like Winston better than Ferguson and some others are changing their vote over to Winston, but we'll have to see how they do in the combine. I would like to see us focus mainly on the offense in this draft and try to fix that up and finally put something out there for David Carr to work with and there seem to be many good options at the spots we need help with (not sure how many good WRs there are in this draft and we should probably look at getting a fast, good WR, especially if Gaffney leave in free agency). If Gaffney doesn't leave, AJ, Gaff, and Mathis are a pretty good trio, but Bradford should be cut and Armstrong will be an UFA, who I think they will resign to a one-year tender at least, but we still need to add depth at the position with a later pick, preferably go after one with some speed. I'll get more into my offseason in a combined thread with Coach C and cadahnic sometime in the near future. We should have a good list of free agents available in the next few days with each team's cap room to add to our own players cap list that we posted early this week, then I plan to work on a somewhat generic list of what I would like to see us do in the offseason with our own guys and free agents, then go more into the draft after the regular season is over and the draft order is solidified.

Unless we can trade down to the 4th or 5th to get Winston, I say we just draft D'Brickashaw. This team has a offensive line since day one. And we finally get a chance to fix the most problematic position. I mean at that high of a pick, the team needs to finally give David Carr some protection.

With the Jets winning today, and our Texans losing yet again it's beginning to look a lot less likely that we end up with anything other than the #1 pick.

Yeah I would trade the #2 pick as well. Not to far where I cant get D'Brick. I'd take him and then get a great OG in the 2nd and then look at the Linebacker and Safety position after that.

Scenarios if Bush is gone and we have the #2 pick:

Miami needs a QB-we request WR Chambers and their 2nd rd as well as swap 1st with them. They counter back with take RB Williams and their 3rd and 4th.********do you do it?

Jets need a QB-we requst to swap spots in the 1st and Vilma. They tell us where to stick it but do offer to swap as well give us their 3rd and their 1st next year. Similar to the SD/NYG trade of Eli. ********Do you do it?

Titans need a QB and would kill for Leinert-we requset to swap spots in the 1st and TE Troupe as well as their 2nd and 3rd and next years 4th. They tell us to kiss off and we stand tall because they would really want Leinert due to the Norm Chow connection. They then counter back with no Troupe but yet we can have TE Kinney.**********Do you do it?

Raiders kinda need a QB-we swap spots in 1st and request Moss or Porter and their 3rd. And if they don't like the deal then they can go suck an egg for dropping P-Such on us.*********Do 'They' do it?

Here's a good one
Lions may want Leinert-we swap spots in the 1st and request WR Williams along with their 3rd**********Do you do it?

There's a few solid scenarios that aren't that far fetched.:texflag:

I don't think the Dolphins or the Raiders would get rid of Chambers, Porter, or Moss respectively.

I could possibly see the trading with the Lions for Leinhart, then getting one of their big 3 receivers or Boss Bailey. Once that happens they would still owe a next year's first or second rounder. Because other than UT boy the other lions receivers are not overly impressive. I would tell them we will swap picks Boss Bailey, next years first and this years third for our first and 5th. that would be relatively ideal.

i like the jets scenario just so we can bring in vilma who i think is alot better than greenwood. but no way with his contract are we just going to let him go. vilma is still on his rookie contract though which would be better than greenwoods. but if we even thought about bringin in vilma we would have to give away picks plus greenwood. depending on coach edwards, pennington might still be their guy who they are going to try to make things work with.

even though it wont happen (unless were playing madden) you just bite the bullet with our overpaid players and draft the guys on our list then work the FA.

my list goes like this (in order of importance)

LT
FS
#2 WR
RG
TE
CB

IMO those are things we NEED to get taken care of in the offseason. of course we are going to draft a tweener in the later rounds. thats pretty much a default for every draft. i want the line to be like this by the end of next season (1st rounder > mckinney > hodgdon > RG since weigert is old and fragile > pitts)

Why would you keep high priced McKinney instead of getting a FA to replace him. Weigert and Pitts have been consistent all year when healthy so they have to stay as well as Wade because of his huge contract. I like the line thought even though I would rather see Pitts, Rookie/FA, Hodgon/FA, Wade/Weigert, Rookie. Then the rookie RT and Pitts eventually switch at some point. Your order of importance is pretty on, but I am gonna change that also.

OT
CB
DE/LB
S
interior OL
TE
WR

well mckinney was a little better at LG, but he is still not that great. in finding a FA, how would you get someone to come here without overpaying?

im not big fan of stevie but if we can find someone cheaper and better than im all for that. weigert can still play when healthy but he gets injured too much for his salary IMO.

i think pitts and our 1st should occupy the tackle positions and i think he makes a better RT even if he does start the season at LT and switches with our 1st rounder. as for C, i think hodgdon will make it there

i think your list is right on the ball, just the order needs a little rearranging ;)

If we end up with the #2 Pick.. we trade down to the Saints or Ravens.. for an extra 2nd and 3rd..

Draft..

1- DE Mario Williams
2- OT Marcus Mcneil
2- OT Winston Justice
3- S Daniel Bullocks
3- OLB Roger McIntosh
3- WR Maurice Stovall
4- CB Anwar Phillips
5- ILB Aaron Harris
6- TE Tim Massaqoui
7- OG Lequalan McDonald

Trade down until we are somewhere in the 5-10 range, if we have the #1 that would likely be two separate trade-downs, maybe even three so we could end up with 2-3 high 2nd round picks and 3-4 high 3rd round picks. I want to see us draft at least two offensive linemen in this draft, maybe add a OC like the one from Minnesota if we get extra 2nd rounders and he's still available. My priority list would be:
1st priority) OT
2nd priority) OG
3rd priority*) pass rusher if we switch to 4-3
4th priority) CB (maybe a tweener like Huff from UT that could play CB or S)
5th priority) WR
6th priority) S
after that draft the best athletes available at somewhat needy positions, maybe another CB, LB, WR something along those lines.

Essentially the Chargers traded down with the Giants from the #1 spot in the 2004 draft. Chargers had the number one pick, Giants had the 4th.

This is what it took to trade up 3 spots to the number 1:

1st rounder - 4th pick
3rd rounder - 2nd pick
2005 draft
1st rounder - 12 pick
5th rounder - 8th pick

I think that will happen again where we won't see the complete benefits of a deal until the next year.

I dont think Huff will fall to the 4th....I've heard him going in the 1st.

and I think (hope) my Broncos will take him.....either with our pick or the Redskins pick. S is our weakest position....

ok well back on topic....

if you guys get the #2 pick....I think you'll trade down maybe 2 spots....and take D'Brickashaw. only if your sure he'll be there.

then you guys can get more draft picks and get some more OL help...

I wasn't necessarily saying that is the round I want to get them, just the priority and order we should look to draft those players. As of this moment we have two high third round picks (ours and Saints) and drafting a DE depends on whether we switch defensive systems, plus after we trade down from the #1 pick (assuming we even get it) we will have additional second and third round picks in there.
