Saw Eric Winston at a bar this weekend

I was in Dallas this past weekend for my sister's wedding. After the wedding a couple of friends and I did some bar hopping. I was wearing my DeMeco jersey because it was probowl weekend and my girlfriend and friends were worried that I might get into an altercation with a Cowboys fan.

Well, sure enough, first bar we are at a guy walks by, stops, looks back at my jersey, and my friends give me a 'here we go' look. The guy asks me if I'm a Texans fan and I emphatically told him yes. He said, "see that tall guy over there by the bar with long hair?" I said "yea."

"He's the starting right tackle for the Texans."

Apparently the guy I was talking to was one of Winston's good friends and he was up visiting him for the weekend. Winston walked right past me and glanced at my jersey but didn't stop or say anything to me. I didn't want to go up and hassle him and figured if he wanted to chat he would have. I was dying to know what he thought about the Gibbs hire though.

Anyways, I thought it was funny that everyone was worried we were going to get hassled by Cowboy fans and we end up seeing a Texans player.

Oh, you should have said something to him. Nothing too long, a sentence or two of what you think of our beloved team. But I understand leaving the guy alone and giving him his privacy. His friend was the one who brought it up, maybe you could have ran it by the friend?

I had the chance to pick Steve McKinney's brain a little Saturday night. There's a local charity group (Lighthouse Cooking Team) that does an auction every year to raise money for their team. Considering they are a non-profit outfit, they count on this event for the year. Everything that's auctioned off is donated by a company, person, etc.

Anywho, McKinney shows up every year with Texans gear, tickets, etc. I asked him how he was feeling and what he thought of the Alex Gibbs hiring. He said he was doing great with rehab and the knee felt fine. He usually drops wieght every off-season so he said that wouldn't be a problem with him. When I asked him about Gibbs he gave an emphatic "I'm pumped up" answer. He did make it a point to say it was going to be tough under Gibbs' coaching, but very well worth it.

To be honest, the way he was talking listening to what he had to say about Gibbs got me pretty fired up. I've talked with him the past 3-4 years at this event and this year is the most excited he's sounded since.

Sorry for the thread jack. I didn't want to start a new thread.

Interesting! First off I can see getting Cowboys fans attention because it probably isn't often that they see many Texans jerseys, just out of curiousity, nothing more. But, what I am having a hard time imagining you being in a bar in Dallas and the only one there in a Texans jersey, yet a Texan player walks by glance, and says nothing. I can understand that many of the players want to remain somewhat detatched because some fans do go overboard, but a quick hello, thanks for your support and a handshake should have been in order.

well the only reason I give folks wearing Cowboys gear attention is two fold either

A-I make sure my wallet and other personal items are in my front pocket or
B-As a good american I notify the authorities on possible illegals being in the bar/restaurant

The Texans have got a few things to achieve on the field before N.Texas bar room patrons get too exercised about somebody weaing a Texans jersey up that way. I'm thinkin a Osi Umenyiora jersey would have been much more provokative in your little N.Texas barroom over the weekend ?

Totally should have talked to him!

I saw him once out here in Houston and talked to him for a while. He was really down to earth, appreciative of my support and overall just nice. He's a really cool dude.

And I watched the Ellen Degenares show cuz Pitts and Salaam were on it. Ephraim Salaam has to be one of the coolest/funniest guys. I think we have some pretty cool guys on the OL ; )

Yea, I Was disappointed with that. I hate to be speculative but he did look a bit wobbly standing over the bar, he might have had a bit to drink.

My friends also said they said something to us as we were leaving the bar but I didn't hear anything. He could have at least acknowledged me but whatever.

I remember when I met him after the Colts game, he was kind enough to come over and sign me an autograph before he left the stadium. Had a few kind words to say. All I remember thinking was how huge the guy was. lol

Eric is from Midland so of course he is down to earth. One of my BFF's grew up with his family in Midland so he is always cool with me when I see him out.
