It has been over a year since I have posted on this forum. I check it almost everyday and enjoy for the most part reading the informative posts most Texans fans have. Today was an exception and has compelled me to make a post. I have read several negative posts and plans of booing the offense before they ever take a snap at the Titan Game. In my opinion some of you should change your screen names to Benedict Arnold. I am ashamed of some of you fans and wonder if some of you are of the same ilk as the lowlife who poured beer on David Carr's wife last season. When this game started I assumed that the bengals would win because I believe they have a better team at thist point in the season, but I hoped for a Texan win. Above all I wanted to see if the Texans had enough heart and guts to come out and fight. To battle to the end no matter how many times Mr. Murphy kicks you down. Guess what all you Benedict's, they had heart and they did not quit. So maybe, just maybe you could fight as well for your team, give them hope and cheer them on. If they come out in the Titan game and show no heart or fight then by all means Boo, but dont Boo cowardly from your seat and expect any loyalty from your players. I enjoy the way Vinny, SeS, and others give good football evaluations and continue to be great fans. Thanks guys for keeping this board great. I agree that a better product should be on the field by year four and I believe one way or another the owner will fix it. As far as Carr, I believe he has been hindered by the offensive scheme from past years and the inadequate line play. His brain has never let him slow the game down because he has never had the protection in order to do so. If Pendry can get the game slowed down, I think he will show more than some of you guys think. I saw a more focused offensive unit that had an idea what they wanted to do and forcibly attempted to do it, completely a diffirent story than the first two games. Remember that due to the hurricane they had a short time to practice under Pendry. Now its our turn as fans to give them some hope and support by cheering them to victory. All you Boo Birds can stay at home and pour beer on your own heads. Im out.
 
I don't think it's fair to lump everyone into the same catagory. I believe there was one person on this MB who mentioned to boo the Texans before they had a chance to perform. I agree that is inapropriate. Let's give them a shot. I think you are way over generalizing here, but your thoughts are always welcome. Don't be a stranger. :texflag:
 
They did show more heart today; however, they still allowed 7 sacks. They lost 16-10 after losing to Pitt 27-7 and Buff 22-7. That's not really much of an improvement when you really look at it. They kept the turnovers down, but they only scored 3 more points against a D that was not known for sacks (until now) or stopping the run. They were known for interceptions, so we ran and Carr threw the ball away more. I'd say the biggest real improvement was actually getting some pressure on the QB. It wasn't a lot but at least it was there. It's a moral victory, but we need a real one. A loss next week would blow away any good feelings we're having right now.

Gaffney needs to play more. Come to think of it, so do Armstrong and Mathis. Who does that leave out? :rolleyes:
 
yep..good post.

I am.. right now.. not happy with the team. I think we need to make changes..and im skeptical about Carr turning it around.

But I would never turn on my team. if it takes 20 years to reach the playoffs..i look forward to being there on that day. Whether we are 1-15 or 15-1.. ill still be wearing my Texans jersey to classes 3 days a week and know every players name by heart.

You can criticize your team intelligently.. without bad mouthing, flaming, ridiculing, or turning your back on them. I would even ENCOURAGE people to question the team and give their opinion on what needs fixing.. but do some research before you spout off.. as a matter of fact..dont spout off at all. You can voice your opinions without being sarcastic or belligerent.



Think about it.. are you a fan of this team or not? When we DO start winning.. its not gonna be like that forever.. we are going to have bad years.. even bad decades.. do you really consider yourself a texans fan? cause if you do.. you better start thinking about the way you support your team and how you are going to act through the tough times. Through thick and thin.. thats how you support them.. when they are playing terribly and obviously headed in the wrong direction... question them and their moves.. but dont drag their name through the mud and take it personally. They are OUR team... and a good fan will support their team no matter what.

as fans I think we are obligated to speak up and say what we dont like and what we think needs changing.. but you have to do it right. The Texans.. like any nfl franchise.. wants to please their fans.. so when you make a post, think about it as though you were talking directly to the franchise. If you want to sway their mind to your way of thinking.. do you think they will be more impressed by your sarcasm and insults? or by facts, and mature debate?

Porky - i apologize for generalizing, but there was more than one person shoving the negative diatribe down instead of giving insightful criticism. I consider you one of the more rational fans with a good opinion on football. I have lived in houston my whole life and have witnessed Houston fans for every sport turn Benedict at the eariest hint of bad play. Then again I guess thats all sports fans. Thats what makes sports so great. Go Texans and Go Astros.

I think it's just like the media - hype up the bad news and overlook the positives... it's what gets attention. I think everyone has the same eventual goal for the Texans (as I'm sure they have of themselves) but everyone will have their different view on how and how fast to achieve it. Interesting thing is, if these "suggestions" actually came true, but then failed - it's not that suggestor's job on the line.

Seems most would agree that a change should happen, and we just had one (in probably the steps of many to come) that netted us what I feel a better offensive game overall than what we have seen in recent games and what seems a little more of the team's confidence in itself that they can go into a game thinking they can win it...

Maybe the previous 3 years of the franchise just messed with some of the Texans' head and it's gonna take a little time to build back that trust in the players and coaches...we'll see.

Good thing is, at least this game we were into it and if given the choice of that or the last two games of tuned out by the half.... Of course, I'd much rather see a win though.

Unfortunately, we are blind out here. Houston is the closest AFC town to Shreveport, but our CBS affiliate does not carry the games. (They did last year, right up until the Cleveland game. Go figure)

Looking at the highlights, and stats it looks like the offence showed some life. I am really interested in how the changes on D worked with Orr and Faggins. It sounds like the defense played better. Did Orr and Faggins attribute to that? :texflag:
 
i hear you man...im as frustrated as any of the rest, doubly so since im dislocated to florida and cant see many (none yet) of the games, so i dont even know whats going wrong.....however, rest assured, the only teams that deserve booing in my book are the tennessee titans, that funny colored team from jacksonville, and the new york yankees. I cant be mad at my home team enough to ever openly boo them pregame...decisions, calls, plays, mistakes...fine, express your displeasure, but their still our team guys! im gonna be bleeding battle red till somebody closes my steel blue casket

I didnt see Orr much.

Faggins got worked over.. but didnt give up any huge plays. I think he played solidly if not amazing.

I, for one, will be with you WHEN we get to the playoffs.

Having been a die hard Oiler fan, I know all about disappointment, and living for the next game...and the next...and the next... ;-)
 
Today was a solid game. The Texans have some things to work on and get back out there. As fans we have to accept that the chances of the Texans making the playoffs are slim. However that does not mean they will not improve from last year. They made strides today and I for one enjoyed the game. Don't give up on them yet "GO Stros" but jusat because they don't make the playoffs does not mean they are not a fun team to root for and watch. Support our guys the loyalty will be repaid ten fold. The true fans are found during hard times. Have you ever questions the loyalty of a cubs fan? WHy because as much as they lose if you still follow them you are a true fan. Until the Texan problem reach the level of the cubs we have nothing to complain about.
