Salsbury and Dan Patrick

Sudds

Practice Squad
For those of you Carr haters out there...this morning on ESPN, Dan Patrick and Sean Salsbury were commenting on the state of the Texans. They praised the abilities of our triplets, especially Carr. The were more concerned about why our management has done nothing in 4 years to solidify the OL, that it's no wonder Carr and others are struggling. They said until the brass start focusing on protecting the QB and providing the offense time to develop during a play, our team will go no where.

For those who bash Carr, I ask you to simply look at the obvious...without an O-line, especially without an O-line for 4 years, the entire offense will struggle. To blame Carr is ridiculous. Carr scrambles because the pressure is on...no other QB in the league would do any better. No one has been sacked or pressured as much as Carr in the past 4 years. Comparing his situation to any other, would be premature.

Carr scrambles when he doesnt have to. There were about 3 times against Pittsburg where if he stood in the pocket, he would have been fine. But instead of stepping up, he bailed out of the pocket and ran right into the defenders.

Carr cant read a defense to save his life.

Carr seems to be doing exactly what some people feared. A rookie shouldn't be in a situation that forces sack records. I had hoped that having so little time would actually make him quicker at making decisions, but he seems afraid of the pocket. I guess maybe he'll regain confidence, but it's hard to tell. I just wish I knew what happened from the first 6 games of last year compared to the latter half and the beginning of this season. Everything was looking up, but I guess Ds just figured him out and he hasn't adjusted yet.

Carr is trying to make a play (like he did when he ran for a 1st down). If anything he is shouldering this team to get things done. A weak oline, a subpar running game and recievers that drop passes and can't get open. I guess you'd like it if he stands there and throws an interception or waits until the play develops which it won't because the pocket breaks down.

You get hit 153 times in 50 games and tell me how you feel about pressure.

He's getting hit alot more than 3 times a game. EVERY QB gets hit more than 3 times a game. Every QB doesnt get sacked 3 times or hit 40 times a game.

The best way for him to make a play is to step up in the pocket, not break it.

If he steps up in the pocket he's facing the back of Mckinneys [insert bad word here, rymes with bass]. Carr's passing lane is taken away and his options are limited. If Carr stepped up in the last game, he for sure would have been sacked by Hampton a few times.

Roethlisberger did a great job of moving around and keeping his head up when his pocket was broken. Most of the big plays came when he had to avoid rushers. I wouldn't blame Carr though. I would get paranoid too.

wait a minute now, 2 of Rothys long bombs were because he had tremendous blocking. Let be honest now.

the only problem i had, is the one time carr sidestepped, right into troy polumolu(sp?), if he had stepped up that would have been one less sack, but for the most part, he doesn't have anywhere to go but out of the pocket

GOD could come and tell me that carr is good and ide still wouldnt believe it ive seen plenty of game tapes were carr has proven he doesnt belong in this league at least not as a starter if you think about it Carr wouldnt be a starter with any other team but us.

What pocket?

People complain we didn't throw long against the Steelers. They are wrong, we tried to throw the long ball several times, each time Carr was sacked. (Watch the game film)

People study the film. The rushers are on Carr like white on rice. Many times they are coming in with NO ONE blocking them and getting HARD hits on Carr.

Yes Carr can improve his game but he is being put in an unfair situation with the protection he is getting.

Name a GREAT QB who has played behind a really really bad O-line and done really well?

Then go dig through the stats and see if you can find an O-line worse than ours has been in the first 3 years or so.

A good O-line is the key to a good offense. It can make average/above average talent look GREAT. Ask Big Ben and every running back the Steelers have had for the last several years. There is a reason Left Tackles are paid so much freaking money.

I did watch the film and he had a pocket.

3-15-HOU33 (10:10) (Shotgun) D.Carr sacked at HST 23 for -10 yards (T.Polamalu).

Check that one out, I'm pretty sure it's the one I'm talking about. He could have stepped up cause McKinney kept his guy out and pushed him right. But Carr decides to run right out of the pocket and gets sacked by Polamalu.

The only times no one was blocked was when the Steelers brought more people then we kept in.

Bingo! It still puzzles me to this day that they would not only choose a QB as the first pick of the draft, but also start that rookie QB behind a line that has never been tested and for a brand new team. They should have given DC a clipboard the first couple of seasons to save him as our franchise QB, and let Banks take all those sacks. DC never had a chance to even absorb the NFL as he was immediately thrown to the wolves. He might never realize his true potential after being shell-shocked the past 3 seasons.

I think marketing had a hand in starting DC from the beginning, as he looks great on posters.

After the bills game do you think Carr trusts DD or any body else to make a good block. If Carr steps up 9 times out of 10 he would have ran right into the defender. Which equals = :ouch: David I say run for your life until we get you some decent blockers.

all I can say is that I must have been watching a different game than the rest of you...maybe me and Fiddy watched the same one. In the first series, on the play that Carr fumbled, Carr had a pocket. He had plenty of time, but he ran outside of his protection. Carr was the reason for the fumble, not the O-line. On the play that fiddy is talking about, the one when Polamalu was being blocked by DD and sacked Carr, Carr had a huge pocket to step up into, and DD was doing his job by pushing Troy P. wide. Again, Carr ran outside of his protection and right into the waiting arms of Polamalu. If Carr would have stepped up into the pocket, NO SACK. There were others as well. Carr must do better.

The fumble was all on Carr, no recievers open and Bruener didn't contain his man (like when Roethlesburger had all day to throw) greatly affected that play however. When DD pushed Palo he should have been blocking him and DD made a weak effort to contain him.

I think part of the problem this year was foolishly announcing to the world that the offense was going to 3 step drops and short, timing patterns. That allows the defense to stack the LOS and cause all kinds of havok. Carr does need to work on his reads, but it's gotta be tough when you have as little time as he does and a bunched up field to try and decipher

The Texans really havent used the 3 step drop. Carr threw too many INTs during training camp and preseason when they used it (see the Bucs game).

Ok lets look at this. Were arguing back and forth and it will be a continous thing until we realize the fact that it's carrs fault along with the O-Lines fault. Its not any one persons fault. Of course the O-Line makes mistakes, but so does Carr. The only way to really correct the problem is to give carr a better O-Line and rebuild his confidence and let him learn what to do when he has a consistant pocket.

He doesnt have a pocket very much so he doesnt react right when he has one. Inability to read a D comes on not only his shoulders but the coaching staff as well. They have to teach that and he doesnt have that. Like it would matter cause Capers would **** bricks if he took control of the offense.

I'm not happy with Carr's performance lately either but it's not his fault he takes off. There were numerous times he took off running because his pocket was crumbling around him and his WR hadn't finished their routes. I think it goes back on coaching. Why aren't they running hot routes? The need to quit putting band aids on the problems and fix the damn thing.

Now why we runs out of bounds behind the line of scrimmage instead of throwing the ball away is beside me. :brickwall

you can't blame the offense's struggles on just carr...here is how you do this:

casserly: for not either drafting to build the team like he said he would or by not going out in FA and getting the o-line needed to make this work...he took too much of a risk in hoping bosseli would be able to return to football...and for not going out in this year's FA and acquiring a veteran reciever to help andre

capers: for not following through with the game plan...if you're gonna spend all preseason on 3 step drops and only try it 4 times in two games then you just wasted an entire preseason...for not giving this team an indenity on offense...you're either a running team or a passing team...not a passing team that wants to run or vis versa

recievers: if you can't get open you can't make plays...and if you do get open and carr throws you the ball catch...there is no reason not to catch the ball when the closest defender is 10 yds away bradford or gaffney who didn't even look for the freakin ball

runningbacks: if your not gonna run the ball affective enough for us to give you the rock 30 times a game learn to freakin pass block

carr: i know you think you have no time in the pocket but try to realize that you are the franchise of this team and the only way you're going to stay that is by being in the pocket and making the throws...stop with the yelling and the screaming and the throwing the helmets...be a man...if you do get sacked or hit take it...don't scream...don't yell...keep your cool because everyone watching can see it and it doesn't reflect well on your behalf...scream and yell in the locker room at half time when no one can hear about

o-line: ok they only a few of the 13 sacks are due to ya'll...i call bs on that...keep your heads in the game...stop worrying about the next time the carr over heats and show us that ya'll aren't a bunch of washed up losers...remember you are the guys who are supposed to protect the franchise...take some pride in that and play hard

All of you should know. These young QB's that are winning are in systems that use their talents. This offense is not designed to take full advantage of DC's abilities. The OL has not worked yet. AJ gets doubled constantlyt and defenses cheat to the run on the front seven. That defensive gameplan covers the "entire" offense until the other WR's start to become a threat on the other side of the field.

If DC were playing for KC right now, then he would be awesome. I know this sounds bad, but I hope that DC either gets the right gameplan and protection here or he lands on a team someday where he can show all of you naysayers how wrong you are.
