Saints vs Texans: Game Day Thread

Thats what he's been saying since he played for the Giants. I guess he was right ? :)

Yup, not sure if its actually him getting stronger as the game goes along or if the defense gets tired and then slower to get to him.

We are now 5-5. At this point, the Texans are a better team than they have been in the past.

Progress. It's a wonderful thing.

Both I think. He also seemed to run harder today, except on the 4and1 quickstep.

Dayne can get the job done, but we still need someone with speed back there to compliment him.

He seems to work on certain teams. Can't figure out what it is that allows him to run well on certain teams but it's true. Maybe he wouldn't be such a bad guy to have on the team even for next year.

Reggie Bush:

15 carries for 34 yards, 2.3 avg
12 receptions for 70 yards, 5.8 avg (awful avg)
27 touches total, 3.85 avg, ATROCIOUS

He really isn't a bad receiver. That's actually a pretty decent average considering the type of pass plays he gets. They should just make him a receiver I am telling you, wasting time trying to get him to play running back IMO.

He gets the same type passes that other running backs get, but he still has one of the lowest avg per receptions in the league. He catches a lot of passes but does very little with them.

That was a good win.

Oh, and for all of you Mario haters/Bush lovers out there:

Inloved in 6 tackles, 1 sack, and a forced fumble.

Compare this to Reggie Bush's stellar numbers: 104 total yards on 15 rushes and 12 catches (27 touches). That's an average of 3.8 yards for the should of been first round draft pick! Aren't you sad that we didn't end up with Reggie Bush and his 34 rushing yards? I really wish we would have picked him up.

Andre Ware was annoying the hell out of me on this broadcast when he said that Bush is one of the greatest players in the NFL when he plays in space. I guess he didn't get enough space today. The announcers were riding Bush's jock all game long, too.

For today, Mario was on the winning team, and contributed more than Bush did for the losing team.

For today. I still say Bush will eventually be proven a bust, but only time will tell. For the big three from last year we still have much time left to prove our viewpoints.

I don't get this "great in space" argument either. All NFL players are good with lots of room, witness the long Dayne run off the screen against the Radiers. I think "great in space" is just a back-handed compliment for "can't get tough yards".

What a dumb statement. There are a lot of players that play well in space. Its the players that play well with very little space that are great. I think Brian Westbrook it ten times the player Bush is in space anyway.

Looks like we read each others mind... :)

Other running backs don't have high yards per catch for the same reason as I gave before. Look it up. He has one of the lowest avg per reception because he is a running back.

I don't like the guy either, and I think he is a crap running back, but let's not go too far.

The funny thing is they will never actually admit he is a bust. They will just kinda quit talking about him because they know playing up a worthless player makes them look like dumbasses.

What I am saying is that EVEN FOR A RUNNING BACK HE HAS A CRAP AVERAGE.

RB's with better averages:
Brian Westbrook
Ronnie Brown
Joseph Addai
Kevin Faulk
Selvin Young
Frank Gore
Justin Fargas
Adrian Peterson
Clinton Portis
Ladanian Tomlinson
Brian Leonard
Willie Parker
Thomas Jones
Willis McGahee
Kevin Jones
Larry Johnson

btw
Ahman Green 8.8 avg
Dayne 5.8 avg

Running backs with more catches than Reggie Bush: 0

Running backs with as many catches as Reggie Bush: 0

Reggie has 55 catches.

Westbrook has 54 with a 9.6 avg, but he is Brian Westbrook and he has been playing that roll for years and years.

Then you've got the next highest is Ronnie Brown with 39 catches and he has a 10 avg. LT has 35 catches with a 7.5 avg. LJ has 32 catches with a 6.2 avg. Willis McGahee has 29 catches with a 6.0 avg. Adrian peterson has 27 catches with a 7.7 avg. Then you've got alot in the 20's all with about 8 yards per catch.

I realize that it is low, but they throw it to him alot. I mean they throw that little swing pass, which is basically a running play, like 5-10 times a game. That little pass isn't going to get you more than 5 yards consistantly, but that is just how they run. They can't run traditionally so in order to get those run type of yards, they throw this little swing pass. Defenses gameplan against that play, the Saints run it way too often. Having NFL defenders, that swing pass isn't very hard to defend, you just need speed.

I don't think you can just look at the avg and say "hey look it's low". You've got to take into account the situation.

I agree you have to account for the situation... and he DOES catch a lot of passes.

But the bottom line is he catches a lot of passes and does very little with them, which is all I was saying in my original post. The fact is teams are not too petrified of Reggie Bush catching a 5 yard pass.

Not to mention that those other backs you mentioned are much better runners.

That's true and I just think it proves that he will NOT be able to play running back in the NFL. The only way to get running type yards with him as the tailback is that swing pass, and when you run it as often as they do, it just takes away from it. If any coach were to move him to WR I think it would be Payton, but I don't see the Saints admitting they spent all that money on a small WR project.

Impressive win today. Didn't get to watch but the stats look like Schaub played lights out. The addition of AJ was huge, as anticipated. And the secondary seems to have held up exceptionally well against the New Orleans offense. I new Schaub and Johnson being back were going to make a difference but didn't think the defense would hold up it's end. Good job today, it was a big win coming out of the bye.

Hopefully we can make it a perfect 4-0 for the division this week.

Funny how the forums, paper, overall mood of fans is so quiet after a win. I wonder how many posts there would be if the Saints have won or....eek...Bush had a decent game.

hopefully ye cant, we need ye to lose a couple games so we can grab that 6 spot:)

awesome showing by MW today!!! he straight up tea-bagged not only reggie bush, but the haters aswell!!! (including the announcers)

while I was flipping between that and the Dynamo winning another championship (back to back Rockets style) I couldn't help but smile at the fact that the Texans look like a real team now! I hope they keep going at this rate, 3 more wins and we will officially be at the best record ever by this club!!! much improved over years pasted.

What's the Saints fans to Texans fans looking like at the stadium?

There were a lot of Saints fans there today. I think an uncovered story was the effect of Katrina on the number of Saints fans at the stadium. They were pretty loud at first and tried to start Who Dat and Reggie chants. Fortunately, we were able to turn most of the chants around. Our section had a real fun, good natured Texans fan who was able to give the Saints fans lots of grief without causing animosity. We had a great time, but I sure am glad the game worked out the way it did.

We started a Reggie chant too....

"OVER-RATED!"
