Sad News - Arizona recruit, McCollins Umeh, dies during workout

I saw the report on the news a few minutes ago, so very sad. It seems the numbers keep growing with student athletes dying during or following practices, all with ailments that aren't detected during physicals.

My prayers are with the family, who I know are devestated.

It seems we are hearing more about these types of deaths in the past few years. I wonder if this is something that has always happened and never reported or if it is just an escalation?

I think the new supplement fads are really playing a big part of all these great athletes just dropping dead all of a sudden. The old school Jack Pardee/Bear Bryant guys used cave-man logic when it came to hydration and understanding what your body needs to work well when stressed but they didn't seem to kill anyone back then. Today these kids are pumping all kinds of herbs and micronutrient crud (to give them the edge) into their system that we did not have back then. I used to be a competitive powerlifter and I shudder to think about some of the garbage I was ingesting. I took some legal products that have since been banned. There is still a ton of stuff out there that has not been tested as well as drugs. Herbs and supplements need more control, testing and regulation I feel. I really think that has a lot to do with this. Very sad.
