Rumor -Michael Vick

AcresHomesTexan

No Longer Arlington: Escaped From Jerry's World

CBS' Jason La Canfora reports the Raiders are "mulling" free agent Michael Vick.

La Canfora also reports the Texans are "seen as a likely landing spot for (Vick)," but it's unclear if he's simply spitballing. Per La Canfora, the Jets are an unlikely landing spot, while the Eagles remain in play. There haven't been many concrete reports on a soft market's "top available quarterback," but that should change in the run up to the March 11 start of free agency.

It's either the Jets, Raiders, Vikings, 49ers, Bucs, Eagles, or Texans for Vick. :kitten:
Michael Vick is one of the more attractive names available in a shallow free-agent market at quarterback and should have multiple options. A recent report linked him to the Jets, but league sources believe Jets GM John Idzik would not be inclined to spend in the range it would likely take to land Vick, and regardless, other teams are interested.

The Raiders are mulling several veteran quarterbacks, Vick included, and that looks like the best opportunity for Vick to start quickly. The Vikings, 49ers, Bucs and Texans are also exploring free agent options. If Matt Cassel does not return to Minnesota, Houston is seen as a likely landing spot for him.

Furthermore, the Eagles could end up keeping Vick...

Cassel makes more sense, but this is typical JLCF click seeking...

I think Vick is going to work hard to go whatever team drafts JF. He has said he wants 1-2 more years as a starter and then a few backup years. I think it's a bad idea in terms of mentoring JF to be more disciplined but someone may buy into it.

I'm stoked about our new HC, but that would change very quickly if we took on Vick. One of the worst passers in the last ten years who can't stay healthy and is a fumbling machine? We would be totally wasting this season.

I don't think there is any type of chance that O'Brien would take Vick though.

It's never gonna happen, but for some reason I'd love to see it. One thing I respect about a guy like Andy Reid is that he doesn't need a cookie cutter QB that fits his system. He's been successful as an assistant and Head Coach with a bunch of different QBs. I'd like to see what OB can with a QB like them.

It wouldn't hurt that it would make some people's heads explode in this forum too which would make me laugh as well.

I want to win. I don't care if bringing David Carr back is the best way to ensure that, that's what I want done. I hated that many here preferred to go through another year of David Carr than to bring a QB like Jake Plummer, even with his proven success record with our new head coach.

I don't see the connection between Vick & OB. Far as I know, never worked together before. Vick also doesn't fit the "mold" for he type of QB that OB is normally associated with; tall, smart, drop back passer. Nor have I ever seen anything to make me believe Vick is the guy to run a "Wing Chun" offense. So I don't see this happening.

Still... I'm open to it. Michael Vick is a winner in this league. Doesn't matter to me that he's not the tallest QB in the league, or the most conventional, & the fact that he won't play 16 games is actually preferable in this situation. I still prefer to see a talented prospect taken in the upcoming draft.

Michael Vick, just like Jake Plummer, doesn't mean we stop looking for our future QB... just means we're not going to shoot for the moon & use the #1 overall on a flyer.

& I'm fine with that.

Vick is the best bad option among a bunch of really bad options ....

Cassel ?! Give me a break. Dude couldn't hold down the job in Minny against Ponder & Freeman .... where he had the best RB on the planet to hand the ball to.

I could see Vick coming to Houston to play in Kubiak's WCO, and actually really wished we'd have had him or someone like him in that offense (can you just imagine the boots with Vick), but he's just not anything like what we've been hearing about O'brien's idea of a QB.

We couldn't have Plummer because his rights were held by another team. Tampa I think.

Cassel started the last 5 games of the season after the Vikes gave up on Ponder and Freeman. He was 3-3 as a starter, and came off the bench against the Bears to lead a comeback win. That's 4 of Minnesota's 5 wins.

I'm not going to blow smoke and say Matt Cassel can lead the Texans to the Super Bowl. That's ridiculous. But, neither can any other FA QB or any QB currently on the roster. So we're talking about getting the best caretaker who can help teach a young QB the offense and be a team player. That's Matt Cassel, not Mike Vick.

If you're looking to win next year only Vick is probably your best option.

If you're looking to bridge the gap while coaching up a young potential franchise QB then you go with Cassel.

Option 1 most likely gets you more wins next season. Option 2 is likely accepting to be mediocre next season while developing for the future.

I'm not going to forgive Vick for the dog fighting thing. As to the football side of him, if he helps us win games, then fine. But I don't think in a million years he's the type that will be signed by the Texans. If he is, I'll give him the benefit of the doubt when he arrives, but I'd be the first to jump in his $hit when things start going wrong.

When was the last time Michael Vick helped a team win? 2010? You're thinking about a player from the past. That Michael Vick no longer exists.

Since the Texans aren't going to win a SB next yr the goal should be to build the best team possible. So I really don't care what their record will be next yr.

Sign Vick/Cassel/Vick or whoever. Draft a QB in the 2nd/3rd this yr and if you don't like what you see your record should be bad enough that it shouldn't cost much to move up in the 2015 draft and get your QB. This way you're effectively hedging your bets.

Are people wanting a QB 1-1 thinking that a QB is somehow going to make the franchise a winner next yr.? If so this group is badly mistaken.

Agreed Cassel is the best of a very ugly litter of FAs.

I don't see Vick as a good option. For most of his career, he's been over-rated, imo, because of his amazing athleticism.

Cassel seems the best option to me with the possible exception of trading for Mallet.

At this point, our QB situation is a real mess with no obvious solutions.

Maybe the most overrated player in NFL history. The guy has had one of the worst arms ever in this era, yet I find people who will always argue that he has some great arm despite his horrible passing numbers from year to year. He has always been extremely injury prone and is a fumbling machine. He wouldn't be a good option next season. Look how much better the Eagles were when they finally got their young QB in their consistently. The offense was a lot better with Vick out of there. Vick had one good season since he returned from his jail stint. Before going to jail he was an average QB that looked like he was declining.

Sounds like a certain kid in this years draft class.:kitten:

Vick actually has a pretty strong arm, problem is he hasn't been able to translate it into accuracy and knowing when to throw a touch pass vs slinging it into small windows.

You are right about that specifically. He has strength and can throw far, but his accuracy is terrible. Guys like to argue that he is a good passer still though even when I put his lack of stats in front of them, they use all of these straw man arguments any way. Him being this athletic and exciting athlete makes people want to believe he is something that he isn't at the QB position.

Spot on - strong but inaccurate.

Here's a piece of trivia - Schaub had a 3 TD game in Atlanta before Vick and that was spotting Vick a 3 year head start plus the starter role.

I wish that were true. This QB thing would be easy, if there was someone with that kind of athleticism in this class. I compare Manziel to Vick frequently, but Manziel doesn't have Vick's speed & quickness, which makes him a running threat, which helps his game & his teams rushing attack. He doesn't have Vick's arm either.

Manziel would do well, if he stayed behind the LOS. Maybe he can be the next Favre. His improvisation skills puts him in that group. But Favre was one lucky sob... he must of jacked some Leprechan's pot of gold or something.

but it's unclear if he's simply spitballing

To be honest, spitballing seems to be all LaCanfora does anymore. He's gone down hill fast since leaving NFLN.

I no longer take what he says with a grain of salt. I take it as a grain of salt in the eye.

Inquiry possible...

Was told that one of the teams interested in Brock Osweiler was the Houston #Texans...

Was told as many as 4 teams inquired about Brock Osweiler, #Broncos weren't interested.....Hmmm.

Schaub always looked pretty good when he played in Atlanta when Vick would get hurt. He didn't have a hard time throwing the ball around when he had his opportunities.

That stone leaves rocks all over the field for the half a season it manages to play.

Agreed

It still would be better than 2-14.

Fans are in denial about the state of the Texans and how bad they are on the field and in FO/salary cap shape.

That would still be 6 games of better QB play than this year.

No one is saying Vick is a long term solution. If he can hold up 8 games while a rookie QB learns the ropes that would put us in a great position.

At this point I'd take Vick over any QB on our roster right now. Even if it is for 8 games.
