Round 3 Comments

Hey guys! How about taking all our picks from the 2nd day and use them all to trade back up into the 3rd round. I don't think we will be able to find anyone in the 4th or later rounds who can make our team even as a backup. But with guys like Brown, Hawthorne, and Blackstock that can definitley become backups and even push for the starting job, its a no-brainer to me.

naa. we still got to draft a QB :heh:

Ahh, didn't see that...

Capers said we wanted Morency because he's so similar to DD ...

Well, isn't the knock on Davis his health. Why not get a guy with similar style and ability.

He has a lot more burst than DD? When I see burst I assume you mean acceleration and DD has unbelievable acceleration into the line when he first gets the ball.

DD has a nice burst, but I really think this guy has a burst that is even better then DD, and has much more accelration once free. I am telling you he can run a 4.45 fourty or close to it. What's DD, around 4.6-4.7 range? Doesn't sound like much difference, but it can make all the difference in the world when being chased by fast DB's. Morency is a much better big play threat. He is a threat to take it to the house on any given play. He is a bit raw, but the nice side of that is he is low milage. That's why he is still available now. How many of you Benson bashers didn't want him because he had carried the ball so much? Here you have a guy without much milage, and some of you complain because he doesn't have as much experience. You can't have it both ways. Some of you would complain if we drafted God.

Just showed some footage on him, looks impressive - reminds me of Benson -
banger who slashes with nice little burst thru the line. Maybe another mid round steal at RB for the Texans ?

I liked the highlight they just showed of Derrick Johnson running down Morency from behind. :heh:

Morency is a good pick. DD is RFA after this season, he's had injury problems, and Hollings is nothing more than a situational guy at best.

It just strikes me as being kind of odd...I realize DD isn't the sturdiest back, but if we would've gotten a bigger RB to split time with DD, I think we would've had a nice "thunder and lightning" backfield as opposed to a "lightning and lightning" backfield...

Why, it looks like there will be plenty in the fourth.

Because there are a lot of guys in the third round still who can make our teams as backups and push for the starter's role. We won't get anyone in the 4th who can make our team as a backup unless we hit a homerun like we did with DD, which rarely happens.

Whoa, we took a 25 year old undersized, raw RB who ran a 4.66 at his pro day...Doesn't sound too promising to me, but in Casserly I trust...
exactly what I'm thinking

We may get a good year or two out of him, but it doesn't seem like he has much of a future.

I tried convincing people we would not look for a big back a few times but nobody would listen to me. I didn't dwell on it though.

Oh cripes, he's gonna STRETCH?!?! Well, now he'll be out for the whole preseason. :)

Tht was hilarious IMO. It would have been funnier if it wasn't so likely but still, I laughed.

Really? I never read a post of yours that detailed that...I would much obliged if you would break it down for me :) ...

Faggins, R.Walker, Earl, Davis were all 4th round or later and are expected to play large roles on the Texans next year... A 4th round pick can certainly provide depth and perhaps more eventually.

Here was the last time I said it in March...
Keep in history in mind when thinking along these lines. When Dom Capers had a choice between the explosive Tim Biakabutuka, and the big power back Eddie George, he chose the speed guy in Biakabutuka. In addition, we passed on other more powerful backs when we took Dom Davis also. We left power backs such as his running mate LaBrandon Toefield, Jeremi Johnson, and Justin Griffith on the board. All 3 of those backs fit what I commonly see the fans perceiving as the kind of back we would pursue.

Fason is explosive but a straight line runner without much wiggle and is easy to put a helmet on.

Morency. Sweet! I thought he would go in the 2nd round. This is excellent value! He was one of the guys that was on my short list. He has 4.45 speed guys. He can take it to the house at any given point. Do not compare him to DD. He has alot more burst and great open field speed. This guy is our feature back by 2006, and will see the field a bunch this year as well. Very happy camper. :thumbup

most profiles have him closer to 4.67 and around that. many say that some cons are open field speed and his lack of ability to hit a 2nd gear. i think after getting a recking-ball of a nose we should have shifted to beefing up the o-line to protect Carr and open holes for DD. if nothing else we should have gotten a line backer to replace Jaime Sharper.

Jets get Pouha the DT from Utah. It will be tough for anyone to run inside on them with Robertson and Pouha in there. Robertson gets good penetration, and Pouha clogs up the middle. Nice pick.

Makes a lot of sense...I think most people assume Capers wants power backs because of his statement that he wanted our offense to be more like Pittsburgh's...It's easy to misconstrue that as meaning that he wants a runner who will run 4 yards straight ahead every down, but what he really meant was that he wanted a team that had good ball control...Good point, Vinny...

It's true about big backs. I really think Wells bulked up and improved enough last year to be that guy for this team when one's needed. I can't see Capers worrying about getting another big RB.

By the way, PIT picks Trai Essex? Lose a Plaxico, gain a Trai. These names are great. (Like we should talk, with a Vernand now.)

KC picked up Colquitt. Guess they didn't like Cheeks very much

Cheek doesn't play for them anymore...I'm still not sure if we got a 7th rounder for him...
