Round 2?!!?

HTownBTDown

Practice Squad
KO SIMPSON, SOUTH CAROLINA (UNDERCLASSMAN)

Ko Simpson has the experience and maturity to be a top safety in the league.
Positives: Outstanding size (6-1 and 203 pounds), speed and athleticism. … Excels at reading the quarterback's eyes and getting a jump on routes. … Good body control allows him to adjust well once the ball is in the air. … Excellent strength that he uses well in run support. … Takes proper angles to the ball-carrier and hits with authority.

Negatives: Sometimes relies too much on athleticism and instincts rather than sound techniques, which he must develop.

ANTONIO CROMARTIE, FLORIDA STATE (UNDERCLASSMAN)

Antonio Cromartie's versatility to play multiple positions makes him a hot prospect.
Positives: Great size (6-2 and 203 pounds). … Outstanding speed, athleticism, and leaping ability. … Superb instincts. … Long arms and strong hands. … Provides strong run support. … Versatility with background as a receiver and kick-return skills.

Negatives: Missed the 2005 season after undergoing major knee surgery, although he ran well in his individual workout for scouts. … Needs to work on anticipation of pass routes.

JEREMY TRUEBLOOD, BOSTON COLLEGE
Positives: Ultra-large frame (6-8 and 316 pounds), arm length (34½ inches), and hand size (10½ inches). ... Better athlete than size might indicate. ... Good quickness and footwork. ... Takes good angles on blocks and finishes well.

Negatives: Plenty of work needed on techniques, especially when it comes to preventing defenders from getting under his pads and maintaining balance. ... Needs to develop better lateral movement and body control in the open field. ... Could add some lower-body strength.

A Couple people I would like Houston to take a look at if still ava. in Round 2! All could come in and contribute right away fill a NEED position

Trueblood is a terrible value at 33 and is not a good fit for the scheme...Put Winston or Scott's name there instead of his and I'll think it's a good list...

I foresee that come draft day we're going to be looking at a number of players with first round talent still there at #33, and in positions of need to boot.

Sure hope we don't blow it.

I used to think Scott would be a good pick for us with one of the 3s, but from the reports that came out from the Pro Day, sees he is real slow footed and that doesn't work real well with our blocking scheme.

well its looking like Lendale may be sabotaging his draft stock to fall to the steelers (conspiracy theory heh).. if thats the case.. there is a better chance that Mangold may fall to #33. (I think he could play OG for us)

Either way.. i still want to see us get a DB at #33. I just dont know who to root for. I really want Richard Marshall.. but at #33? I dunno... I mean I think he is worth it, but there is that chance he could fall to the 3rd. Maybe Youboty or Joseph.

My hope is that one of the 5 is available at 33:

Winston
Mangold
Ryans
Howard
Simpson

I would be happy if anyone of them become at Texan.

I would really love it if Cromartie was there but I would also consider taking Darnell Bing to play safety for us. But also Jonathan Joseph would be a great addition.

After this off-season the only spots that lack legitimate starters are safety, WLB, and O-line (tackle mainly, Wiegert isn't going to be around forever).

With that #33 pick I would love for the Texans to go for a defensive playmaker. How lucky is it then that the WLB and safety spots are the traditional playmaking positions on defense. Give me Bush in the first, O-line and some overall depth/BPAs in the 3rd-7th, and one of these guys in the 2nd and I'm happy...

S Donte Whitner, Ohio State

Is the aggressive, playmaking safety you can cheer for. Tackles extremely well, covers with excellence, and has impressive range. Has the physical skills of a Brian Dawkins (only slightly smaller). To be making as many plays as he did while being on the same team as Hawk, Schlegel, Carpenter, and co. is unreal.

After watching the UF vs SCU game last year I have been a big fan of Simpson. He is simply a ballhawk, and his numbers back that up. You want a rover style safety who can line up anywhere and fly around making plays? Simpson is your man. Think Troy Polamalu but only slightly less hyper.

LB Thomas Howard

This guy's athleticism is absurd. I am sad I never got to watch him in a college game because I'm sure it would have been exciting. His efforts at the senior bowl and workouts at the combine were both outstanding. He is unchiseled, but even AJ Hawk can't match the kind of athletic show this guy could put up if he brings it all together. A fantastic WLB prospect who could end up being an every down (and also special teams) player.

Cromartie has been and still remains my top choice for the second round. But I have a feeling that he won't be available.

Whitner-solid guy would be suprised if he gets out of the first
Joseph-not likely available but my top choice
Winston-not going to be available
Mangold-possibly available, not likely to make it past the Jets at 29 but my second choice
Simpson-probably available and may be worth it may not be
Cromartie-same as simpson but worst hitter and less maturity
