Round 2 Commentary thread

The only thing that is as fun watching the draft is watching everyone going ape____ over each pick. I have been laughing for over an hour just reading! Way to go Texans good first day...Texans are a better team today over yesterday

To answer Htown about Spencer.

Most likely they want him to give us a big push in the run game.... or at least fall on 2 defenders thus incapacitating them.

Spencer was one of the most frustrating players to grade this year. While he has very good athletic ability and competes hard on nearly every snap, his technique needs so much work that he gets beaten way too often by lesser athletes. He has been really impressive getting off ball on wide-receiver screens; he gets outside and can crush the defender to spring the receiver for a big gain. He has very quick feet and playing speed to pull and lead block effectively on outside runs. While many people talk of moving Spencer to guard because he has only adequate height and arm length, GM Jr. believes that with his natural athleticism, toughness, instincts and competitiveness, he has what it takes to play tackle well in the NFL once his technique improves. Overall, he is not polished and will struggle if forced to play too early in career, but given a season or two to improve his technique (footwork and use of hands), I am confident he will develop into a good starting offensive tackle or guard in the NFL.

Winston turned out to be a very good college tackle. He needs to become much more consistent in blocking with good technique for pass protection -- has a tendency to pass block upright and doesn't punch the defensive end, leading to him having a lot of trouble holding ground against bull rushers. Has the quick feet to slide out and cut off speed rushers when he uses good technique, but at times he just crosses over and takes a few steps to try and get to corner. Can be beaten around the corner when he does this. Has a tendency to pass block with straight legs, which hinders his ability to adjust to quick side-to-side pass-rush moves. He is a positional, effort run blocker who can't get movement on straight-ahead run blocks. He is best run blocking linebackers in space and on downside blocks. Overall, Winston is a good athlete with the physical tools needed to be a good left tackle in the NFL if he improves his technique and blocks much more aggressively. He will end up starting at left tackle in the NFL, but will not become the dominant player many people are saying he will.

fan no matter what said:

It looks like he made a big impression when he moved to guard at the Senior Bowl, grading out just as highly as Max Jean-Giles.

Tony Scheffler went to the Broncos in the 2nd Round. I'm a bit surprised at that, but I think he'll be successful under Shannahan. I thought he wouldn't go until the 3rd at the earliest.

Thank god in heaven the front office does indeed have one brain cell left

One brain cell? We got the guy many on the board wanted with the 33rd pick, but we got him with the 66th. That may be an indication they know more about what they are doing then some of the arm chair guys here.

And yes, I know that is hard to believe.
