Since many of you are smarter than Smithiak, I would like to see what you would do in round 1 when it is time for you to do a deal or make a draft choice. Do we trade back and pick up extra draft picks or take the guys who have fallen to us?

Just a note: The next OT taken was in round 4 pick 112

I'd take Rashard Mendenhall. We could have had Carl Nicks in the 5th round for our LT (Screw character issues)...
Our second pick in the 3rd round, Steve Slaton, is undersized. Barber the safety was a weird/bad pick.

We really should have grabbed Darrell Robertson or Tommy Blake for our pass rushing DE opposite Mario Williams instead of a UDFA practice squad QB. Weaver is clearly not going to cut it.

I think Brown is a better prospect for Tackle for the next 5 years than Nicks. I also feel with 5-10 pounds Slaton will be at the sweet spot for the size of many of the most successful backs in this league. Barber...well it is weird.

I understood why they did it and to me it's going to be fine . Here's our options .

A. Salaam plays 16 games again .
B. Spencer comes back after a real serious injury and tries to fit into a pure zone scheme .
C. Draft a LT and Let Gibbs groom him for to years before he gos back into retirement .

I don't like Otah for our system. I'm fine with the Brown pick although we MIGHT have been able to trade back and still get him. Although there were some people thinking the Niners might be interested in him as well.

I'm fine with Slaton.

I have a problem with Barber. I think there were better values there. He might turn into a great player and he might not but I would have liked a DE to try to push Weaver on the other side.

At the time, I was sure we were going to get Mendenhall. But I'm fine with this.

I chose Other.

I'm happy with what we did, though Barber isn't the player I would have selected. I most likely would have picked Robert Henderson (DE, So.Miss.)

Personally, I would have taken Cason with my pick, and not touch OL, or RB in the entire draft.

After getting my CB in the first, I'd have looke for a DE in the third.... or maybe another Corner.

But, there is a very good reason real coaches, GMs, and Vice Presidents of football operations don't have me on speed dial.

But, I'm happy with our draft.

I got of the Mendenhall bandwagon after LZ reported that several teams took him off their boards for being soft. According to LZ the P word was used which is pretty rare to question a guy that badly. They dould all be wrong but he did fall like a freakin rock!

AS quoted from his blog:

People are mad that the Texans passed up on Rashard Mendenhall but I have to tell you that there is more than one team who used the "p-word" when describing Mendenhall. I never heard anyone from the Texans use it, but there is a thought that he is soft.

There was no way Brown would have fallen that far. No way.

Just another reason why you better not screw around and trade back with Seattle and lose Brown. It would be another year of bitching about RS as Left Tackle and praying for Schaub.'

I agree entirely. I think Brown was going to go early in the second, where we didn't have a pick because we traded to get the QB we need to protect.

I voted that it was a good decision by our FO. It softened the blow for many when the Texans actually drafted a RB, in round three.

Pearls before swine big earl. Nice try though. They'll get tired of the hissy fit after a while. first time he pancakes Freeny & Vanden Bousch...everything will be fine.

Carl Nicks wasn't a ZBS guy...Brown is.
