Rivers and Chargers agree to 6 year deal

I was hoping he would start opening day when they drafted him. Now that he has missed so much time and with Brees tearing up the pre-season, that chance is all but gone. His only chance would be if Brees gets injured.

Finally! Don't put it past the Chargers to start him opening day though. They've made some pretty dumb moves in the past, but I think Schotteheimer would lean toward starting Brees if its up to him even though he seems to love Rivers. This is the same team that got rid of their star LB, team icon, and essientially the face of the franchise. At least this puts the whole Rivers/Chargers drama to bed for awhile.

Rivers' biggest problem will be with the other players, and getting them to back them. A hold-out rookie is not always the most popular with the vets escpecially when he makes a lot more than them.

So the consensus is that Drew Brees is not the answer at QB for them? Isn't he fairly young and was highly drafted? I don't keep up much with the Chargers and know virtually nothing about them except they have a super RB.

I believe he was a 2nd Round pick of the Chargers, and they traded away the number one pick and took LT at 5 while the Falcons took Vick first overall. But it seems most people have determined he'd make a great backup and isn't a franchise QB.

Thank you for the information. I had thought he was a no. 1 draft choice and the only thing I can really remember about Drew is that he's not very tall.
