Probably the most difficult sport in the world to quantify/qualify the 'greatest' ever..
That said, there's not a player ever in that lofty discussion if Jim Brown isn't also in it..

Greatest RB I never saw play.
Led the NFL in rushing in 8 of his 9 career years. He was an All Pro in 8 of those 9 seasons. Pro Bowl all 9 seasons. He out rushed 11 of the other 13 teams in the NFL by himself in 1963.

Jim Brown - 12,312 yards - 9 seasons
Joe Perry - 9,723 yards - 16 seasons
Jim Taylor - 8,597 yards - 10 seasons
John Henry Johnson - 6,803 yards, 13 seasons
