Rich Rodriguez Fired From Michigan

FOX 2 (Detroit) first reported that Rich Rodriguez has been fired by AD David Brandon. He was fired after three seasons with a 15-22 overall record and 6-18 conference record. In 2010, he led the Wolverines to the Gator Bowl where they were defeated by Mississippi State 52-14.

I can't say I'm surprised but I thought he would get one last chance to fix the defense and continue to improve the offense. Rodriguez did however revamp the offense with his spread offense in which quarterback Denard Robinson broke several records (Robinson had 2570 yards passing, 1702 yards rushing, and combined 32 TDs, both passing and rushing).

It has been reported that Jim Harbaugh will NOT consider the Michigan job according to ESPN but no official statement has been made. I guess if Harbaugh stays put or bolts for the NFL, then Michigan has to either consider Les Miles or Barry Hoke but chances are it will be someone with ties to Michigan.

Michigan needs to think outside the box (unlike Texans) & go with a rising coaching superstar like Chip Kelly, Oregon. imagine the things he could do @ Michigan w/Denard Robinson? he would take them to the BCS in one year!

I'm not sure if Kelly would be open to coming to Ann Arbor, but if he does that is the best case scenario for Michigan. He runs a spread offense attack and with a dynamic QB in Robinson, he can do wonders for the offense.

As for the defense IDK. This Michigan team is eeirly similar to the Texans with the exception that they fired there HC and the Texans did not.

I agree, Harbaugh played here and fits the "Michigan Man" persona. However, I don't know what he would do to the offense and what would happen to guys like Denard Robinson and Tate Forcier.

Okay, WTH is going on? Michigan's Rivals.com page reports that:

Reports that Rich Rodriguez has been fired are premature. TheWolverine.com has learned that no decision on the Michigan head coach's future will come until tomorrow.

The players' meeting that had been scheduled for tonight at 7:00 p.m. has been delayed until tomorrow at 4:00.

Apparently a new station (Detroit FOX 2?) contacted RR's wife, Rita Rodriguez to ask about the firing and she says she hasn't heard anything official.

Well, Rich Rodriguez was offically fired as head coach as he would not resign his position. On another note, ESPN is really stupid and does a poor job of writing articles.

BL, I think Kelly would be a bad hire for Michigan. I think he's about at his coaching ceiling and he can recruit his region with anyone, including USC now without Pete. Michigan needs a more coach with a more traditional style. I think Fulmer might be a good fit.

Did Fulmer run a pro-style offense (I think he did)? He hasn't been coaching in a while but he did field some good teams with plenty of NFL draft pick players (Manning, Al Wilson, Leonard Little, Jamal Lewis, etc)

Michigan has hired Brady Hoke the former HC of Ball State and most recently San Deigo State. He was the defensive line coach untill 2002 and was at Michigan when Tom Brady was the quarterback.

I find it interesting that, some Michigan fans believe the AD Dave Brandon didn't offer Les Miles the job which is why Miles chose to stay at LSU, could be rumors but I find that interesting. It should also be noted that Lloyd Carr, according to some insiders, was assisting Brandon in the search for a HC and he was instrumental in convincing Brandon not to offer the job to Miles as Carr and Miles do not get along with each other.
