Reuben Foster Draft Stock Plummeting

jradMIT

Veteran
It just came out that Foster failed a drug test for a diluted sample. Couple that with the argument during the combine medical check, poor interviewing, and possible injury issues with the shoulder, the guy who was suppose to be a top ten possibility is now falling precipitously. Should the Texans consider drafting him if he there @25?

NO. Replacing Cushing at ILB is a need, but there are much larger needs that are obvious. If I were to take an ILB in the 1st round it would be Zach Cunningham.

Diluted urine sample. That's usually to beat steroid testing right?

That's not the kind of offense to take him off the Texans Worthy list.

I'm gonna get killed for this here but I like Reddick, Davis, and Cunningham more than I like Foster.
All are good but I like Foster better as all around backer. I see Reddick and Cunningham as more finesse type guys but happy if we get either. Davis meniscus in 2014 concerns me.

Yes, they should if the QB they want doesn't fall to them.

A LB crew of Mercilus/Foster/McKinney/Cushing

With Watt/Reader/Clowney in front of them would be awesome.

Marijuana. He'll be tested at will as soon as enters the league. Not a good way to start your career.

I still think he's the 2nd best LB behind Reddick. But he's not so far ahead of Cunningham or Davis that teams won't consider them instead. Teams looking for a violent hitter in the middle of their defense may not be able to pass him up. The Raiders or the Chiefs? That's my guess where he goes now.

I can understand people comparing Davis and Cunningham's Talent to Foster but Reddick???? That's a joke.

He doesn't appear to have bulk or strength for OLB and never played ILB IIRC but that may be his only spot in 3-4. I see him more of a specialist and has to go to right team to be worth a round one pick

He's essentially the same size as Shane Ray.

When I see a guy fall like that I always hope somebody falls in love with him and can get him lower than they originally thought he'd go, thus freeing up someone else that we may want.

That and when someone talks themselves into taking a flyer on some kid that has everyone else going "Who?". Same thing. It's a pity we can't have Matt Millen picking for some team ahead of us every year.

My LB rankings

1. Foster
2. Reddick
3. Watt
4. Davis- tell me Davis ankles are healthy I would say Davis= Foster
5. Cunningham

Well let's start with, how are you evaluating him? What are you basing your evaluation on? Because if you compare their play in games and take into consideration the competition there is no way you can say he's better than any of those guys. He had a good all star week of practice and looked athletic at the combine so people are blowing his evaluation up. Also what badboy said.

What game tape did you watch that made you think Reddick is a better player than Watt? I want to watch that game.

I watched him 2 yrs against Houston.

Very versatile guy. They used him mostly as a pass rusher in those 2 games. At the Sr. Bowl his past history as a DB showed he could cover too.

Why do you not like him? Or is it that you just dont like him as a 1st rd pick? Where do you have Reddick rated and why do you think he's being overrated? Maybe I'm missing something.

The dude had 36 TFL and 15 sacks the last two years. It's not like he just appeared out of nowhere at the combine.

I'm evaluating him as a SAM and I think he's pretty scheme versatile based on what I've seen from him.

This is the same kind of stuff people were spouting when I said Khalil Mack was good enough to go #1. This board freaked out and pulled that same card with the small school, never played anybody, workout warrior BS.

I'm not even saying he's going to be that good. He's not Mack. But have you even watched the guy? Or you just totally dismiss him because he's from Temple.

Von Miller was 2 inches taller and 9 lbs heavier coming into the NFL and I see Reddick fitting into the league at the same position.

I have no idea why people want to protect him to ILB so badly. To me, he's clearly a SAM backer. And could be in multiple schemes.

I'm not dismissing him. Just not putting him on a pedestal because of a good week of practice and his combine results. I like him but to come out and say he's better than Foster, a proven stud against too SEC competition is silly. The comment "what I've seen from him" is exactly what I'm talking about. Just how is it possible to come to that conclusion with so little to scout? I see the potential but I don't see the actual game play to rank him over an elite player with tons of game tape against top competition.

How is it possible? I know what I'm looking for and it didn't take very long to see it when i watched him play.

You could also argue that Foster didn't play against too much top offensive competition. Played against some great athletes, sure. But he plays on an all star team against mismatched opponents. You say Foster is a proven stud against the SEC. I say he has two NFL DL in front of him, NFL LBs to either side of him, and three NFL DBs behind him. Not to mention, he plays in a scheme where all the action gets funneled to him.

I don't question Foster as an athlete. He's a stud. But he has injury concerns, character concerns, and I think he lacks instincts. Most of his highlights are him out-athleting opponents. I think he's actually slower to diagnose than past Bama ILBs that I've watched. He's just a great athlete and that helps cover the deficiency. He will not have the same athletic advantage at the next level.

So I guess you could use that same argument against Jonathan Allen. Lol. I can see the injury and off field concerns.the slow diagnosis comment, not so much. It's to close to the draft to finish this debate but I'll gladly make a tip jar bet with you on who will have the faster and most overall impact.

Looking good so far. Overrated workout warrior goes 13. First LB off the board.

Allen goes 17. Good call. I hadn't thought of him dropping as well.

Foster goes 31. Ten picks after Jarrad Davis.

The drug test can't be the only reason went this late. Medicals? Good enough for the Niners. Maybe not good enough for other teams. I'll say this, Foster is going to a defense that will put him in the best possible situation. Chase and h

linebacker Reuben Foster was charged with multiple domestic violence and weapons counts Thursday in connection to his February arrest, the Santa Clara County District Attorney's Office announced.

Foster is facing three felonies stemming from an alleged attack on his girlfriend -- domestic violence with an allegation that he inflicted great bodily harm; forcefully attempting to prevent a victim from reporting a crime; and possession of an assault weapon. He's also facing one misdemeanor count of possession of a large capacity magazine.

If convicted on all charges, Foster faces the possibility of more than 11 years in prison. His arraignment is scheduled for Thursday at 1:30 p.m. PT.
"The 49ers organization is aware of today's disturbing charges regarding Reuben Foster," the team said in a statement. "We will continue to follow this serious matter. Reuben is aware that his place in our organization is under great scrutiny and will depend on what is learned through the legal process."

Foster, 24, was arrested by police on Feb. 11 after he allegedly attacked his girlfriend at their Los Gatos, California, home. The victim told police Foster dragged her by her hair, physically threw her out of the house and punched her in the head eight to 10 times. She was treated at a hospital for multiple injuries, including a ruptured eardrum, prosecutors said.
