Reggie says that 30 million $ story is B.S.

"Former USC tailback Reggie Bush still expects to be the top overall selection in next week's NFL draft, but Thursday he confirmed widespread reports that the Houston Texans have not opened contract negotiations with him.

"There are some people saying it's because I'm demanding $30 million (for a signing bonus), but that's not true," Bush said in a telephone interview. "We haven't talked numbers with them at all.

If true it would be funny ... yet another example of some "anonymous report" that gets blown way the hell out of proportion.

I'll try to find a link, but Dan Ferens supposedly met with Joel Segal when Reggie came to town. I'm sure they talked dollars at some point in the conversation. Why else would these two guys meet?

link found
From Lucky on HPF.

McClain's podcast
He mentions Joel Segal being in town with Reggie Bush.

How on earth would you have a clue about the nature let alone details of
the conversation those 2 men had ? You can speculate all you want or post anonomous sources that speculate, but bottom line is you or they don't have a any idea.
This link includes a direct quote in a California-based paper from Bush himself on the subject. Couldn't ask for more evidence that the story being circulated about the 30 mil is a bunch of crap.

Makes me wonder why numbers haven't been discussed 8 days before the draft...:hmmm:
I suspect they are still interested in trading the pick if they can get a deal to their likeing. If they sign Bush now, that option is gone forever.
I can remember Casserly saying any trade offers had their best chance of materializing the final week before the Draft. Well that time has now arrived.

Bush's word vs. speculation, but I've seen it here seemingly hundreds of times.

1 < 100 - looks like one hundred wins! It's true!

By the way, I could tell what they talked about because I saw a picture and I read their body language.

(sarcasm, joking, etc.)

So Bush's agent met with the guy who handles negotiations and no numbers were discussed...:ok:

Exactly.

One of two things had to have happened.

1) Segal mentioned a number..... Ferens nodded...... shouldn't be a problem, I'll see you again 2 days before the draft.

2) Segal mentioned a number........ Ferens spit Cognac through his nose, and asked Segal to get the Heck out, and never come back.

I'm fairly confident, however in two things.

1) the conversation took either of the two routes mentioned above. &
2) the Texans still plan to have their guy signed before draft day.

I was hoping today was the day they would make a decision being it was predicted it would be the end of this week the Texans would make a final decision....I can't wait for the 2 hr draft special edition on ESPN tonite to see if they have any more heads up on this...

Mort said last night on the draft special that the Texans have been doing extensive research into the contracts of past #1 picks and past running backs that were taken in the top 3 and that they will begin the negotiations with Reggie Bush and maybe Mario Williams in the next few days.

Sounds like the Texans want to be sure that they have all of the information and statistics ready before negotiating. The last thing that you want to do when negotiating is look like you don't know what you are talking about.

I'm glad they are looking in to the top three picks and some of the top running backs taken. I couldn't find a good link earlier, but I saw that Ronnie Brown, who was picked #2 last year, only got $18.5 guaranteed. That's a good reference point for the team.

And Ferens is good at what he does. Missed the draft special - anymore Texans talk?

Here's how the draft is going to play out.

If the Texans are unable to get an acceptable offer to trade down, they'll select Mario Williams with the #1 pick.

If they receive a trade proposal to their liking, they'll trade down into the 4-7 range & target in this order, D'Brick, A.J.Hawk, Huff, or Vernon Davis.

Bank on it! I know this, because I consulted with my alter ego. :stirpot:
