Megan Manfull, of the Houston Chronicle, reports USC RB Reggie Bush was excited to visit Houston to meet with the Houston Texans. Bush said, "I've been looking forward to this visit. I want to let everybody know who I am and what I am all about. I'm so excited to be here. I wish we could have started today. I'm hoping Houston will be my new home." Bush will spend time Thursday, April 6, meeting with Texans owner Bob McNair, offensive coordinator Troy Calhoun, running backs coach Chick Harris and many others in the organization.
 
In fact, they need to just take him right to his new home and show him around--it's a place called "The Endzone". :redtowel:

Chick Harris must think that it is Christmas. I attended a clinic that he did on running back play and drafting, and someone asked him about Reggie Bush, and he said nice things about our current running backs, but then said something like, I can never have enough playmakers to work with--he had a smile about a mile wide.

Wouldn't matter. Even if the guy had Barry Bonds "enhanced" bat speed, Reggie could still just juke out ot the way, and leave a pair of smoking sneaker marks where he just was.

Reggie could even dodge a roundhouse kick from Chuck Norris

Seems fairly presumptious for Manfull to plainly state that Bush is "one of two the Texans are considering drafting with the #1" She then goes on to list Vince Young as the other #1 -- despite that no major mock draft or scouting department in the country has Vince Young at the #1 -- and not only that, but she does not leave room for other guys that could conceivably be taken by us, either with the #1 or via tradedown -- like Mario Williams, for instance, or others would say D'Brick.

Has it really become the foregone conclusion that we are drafting Bush? I was hoping for a few more weeks of this uncertain business. Makes for interesting if not extremely repetitive talk on the MB.

I'm a fan of Bush, Young, or Williams at #1. When VY said something similar to this he was ripped by UT haters saying he just wants #1 money. It is ok for Bush to say it though and I bet if Williams had said it he wouldn't have been ripped either. It just shows that there are some Texan fans that are against any player from UT. Love to hate on those UT players.

The Texans were totally transparent the last time we had a first overall pick and it was a foregone conclusion to the point that they didn't even waiver when Carr had an average Sr Bowl week. I don't doubt for a moment we are drafting anyone but Bush. I don't consider that real smart...but that's how they have done business in the past and looks like it is how they are doing it now.

Ditto, and add Griffin to that list. Also add Justin Blalock to teh list, even thought he won't be out till next year (I think he might be better then D'Brickashaw).

It's a foregone conclusion that Reggie Bush will be the first pick. What's yet to be determined is what team will own that pick. The only reason a team would trade up to #1 is to pick Bush. So the Texans don't lose a lot of bargaining power either way. The suspense of this pick and the much of the hope of trading it, went away when the Saints signed Brees. :twocents:

Hmm good point. I wonder if Bush is doing some house shopping while in town as well? I was of the opinion that bringing Vince in was more of a professional courtesy than anything else -- as I don't see for a moment us drafting him -- but I still do not like that we have apparently not even seriously entertained a guy like Mario Williams.

I've read where some people don't like his motor, or that he takes plays off and doesn't work hard. I can't comment on that myself, but we didn't even go to his pro day workout did we?

All we are waiting for now is for Bush to get in a car accident wearing a Texans cap.
 
We wouldnt have signed Weaver if we were ever really interested in Super Mario. Didn't attend D'brickshaw's either, did we ?

Easy, no need for name calling. We are on the same team, remember ? I was simply stating that I WOULD like to have Michael Huff. Just not drinking the Vince Kool-Aid with the # 1 Pick.

Not this poster. There are a few longhorn players I have liked in the past.

However, I have yet to find a longhorn fan that I care very much about. Most of them tend to be jerks if you dare to disagree with them..:stooges:

I never went to college so I have no affiliation with any. I just call it like I see it. I watch college games because I want to see who will potentially make it to the pros. I only saw 2 games with Reggie this year and 3 with Vince. Both are good enough to be drafted #1 in my book. I didn't see any with Mario so I am relying on expert opinions and what I read here. I do have the Senior Bowl, East/West Shrine game, and the Rose Bowl recorded so I can go back and look at some of the players.

I have friends and coworkers that went to Texas and I can't think of one I would consider a jerk when disagreed with. I would say the same for A&M alumni. I know plenty of them also.

There's some speculation the Wahoo could go as high as the No. 2 player in the draft now that the New Orleans Saints have signed free agent Drew Brees and are no longer in the market for a quarterback. There's plenty of logic behind such a choice and the Saints' director of college scouting, Rick Reiprish, was on hand to get a close-up look at Ferguson.

A little research revealed that Reiprish drafted tackle Tony Boselli out of Southern Cal in 1995, making Boselli the Jacksonville Jaguars' first-ever draft pick. So, drafting Ferguson wouldn't be a stretch for Reiprish, it would be a sound investment.

"I think that Coach [Al] Groh is right ? left tackles come along every so often and have the physical size for the position you're looking for," Reiprish said. "Not that he has to be 330 pounds. You can play in our league at left tackle at 300, 295 or 290 because you're not going to face 330- or 340-pound players that guards face, and you're not going to face the bigger defensive ends."

A sleeker player

The Saints scout believes that Ferguson's athletic ability and his upper body strength will allow him to play at less than 300 pounds because he is so athletic and moves his feet so well.

"And, he's one of those guys who can pass block," Reiprish said. "You feel very confident in saying that he's a good pass blocker."

Average Sr. Bowl week? I'll admit not watching the game, but the reviews I have seen were like this:

Carr is rated by most as the No. 1 QB prospect in the draft after an impressive season, followed by a stellar showing at the Senior Bowl.

Monday (1/21/02):
David Carr started slow, but really improved through the practice. He showed confidence, good arm strength, mobility and quickness. The most impressive aspect of his practice was that he never made the same mistake twice. Carr was very accurate and fundamentally sound. For a first workout in a new system with new receivers, his accuracy was outstanding. On one route, a linebacker stepped into his throwing lane, Carr picked up his receiver's adjustment and threw a perfect pass. His release point is a little low which could be a concern. Overall, Carr had a real good day.
Tuesday (1/22/02):
David Carr showed a quick, short release and accurate arm today. He put some serious RPMs on the ball. His movement, feat and drop were excellent. There are still some concerns over his release point, but he did not have any passes batted down. Carr was a little erratic in the seven-on-seven drills today, but had a good overall practice.
Wednesday (1/23/02):
David Carr continues to impress. He's gaining a good feel for his receivers and it shows. Carr's accuracy and arm strength remain good. He made a nice pass on a post route to Kelly Campbell for a touchdown. Carr looked good throwing the skinny post. He made the kind of down-the-field throws NFL people want to see. His performance here has only helped himself.
Thursday (1/24/02):
David Carr showed nice touch on screen passes today. He also made some impressive throws in the red zone. With his strong arm, he can really fit it in a small area.

Infantry I find these quotes interesting in particular about his foot work. Lately there have been a number of people criticizing his foot work and it has been stated that Kubiak and he are working on that. Is it possible that a lot of Carr's problems really are the result of the previous coaching staff. I know I have been very outspoken regarding that group. But there all kinds of little indicators. I will say this, however, I see no reason for Carr to have any excuses this year given what the Texans have done in FA and are projected to do in the upcoming Draft.

The receiver coor is dynamite and I believe we have a good shot at reaching the playoffs. Some say that is a reach, but I really like this team and the changes they have made. Other teams are going to have to play us differently. Kubiak has confidence in his FA QB, so if Carr doesn't respond I look for him to go to Sage. Kubiak thinks Sage is a better QB than most of the posters here think.

Yes IMO the coaching staff did not develop Carr as they should have. That said, Carr did not do as well as some QB's have at overcoming adversity. At this point, we need to hope Carr can take a step back from what has happened and take about 3-4 steps forward in one off-season because it appears (if the OL is decent) he will have zero excuses next year for not having a big, big improvement. This is his moment of truth for his NFL career.

This is the KEY and operative item. So far, I haven't seen that much work on the O-line. Some, but not much. If Carr can get the normal 3.5 to 4.5 seconds that NFL QBs and gets it consistantly (85% of the time) so that he can COUNT on the protection, then he should perform well. If he can't, then we need to move on. We have aquired a couple of nice baubles and will likely get Bush, but that won't mean squat if we don't have a competent O-line.
