Receivers Not Doing Enough

IMO the Texans receivers just don't seem to want the ball as bad as the db's. They don't go up and fight for the ball and say " this is MY ball" like more elite receivers in the league. And I'm pointing this directly to AJ and Bradford. AJ has dropped too many passes and seems to be whining. Bradford just isn't a good receiver. Is it too late to get Sloan Thomas back? And great job letting Swinton go. Maybe we need to shake up our receivers like the defense is getting shook up.
 
Armstrong seems to be the only one that will fit the mold of an agressive reciever. AJ has missed 2 balls his way (maybe more) the last 2 games that not just catchable, but were in his hands. Bradford, same thing. It's a total team implosion. I can't think of 1 guy that has been flawless.
 
yeah, I was a bit surprised at some of the passes that AJ did not catch the past couple of weeks. When he is being compared to the elite WRs in the NFL, those are catches that should be handled, without a doubt.

It's the whole team right now, though. They just seem to have a black cloud hanging over them and the great players look merely good, and our good players look bad.

Maybe the recent shake-ups will lift the cloud of mediocrity that has settled into the Texans' mindset. idonno:

I am baffled that Bradford made this roster. Furthermore, it confounds me that he actually starts. What is the point of a WR that can't catch and runs poor routes? Bradford is clearly, IMO, the worst WR we have on our team. Frankly, if we were interested in fielding our best 11 guys on offense, it would look like this:

Riley, Pitts, McKInney, Weigert, Wade, AJ, Gaffney, Mathis, Armstrong, Davis, Carr.

I'm not a fan of 4wr sets, but clearly that 11 would create matchup problems for most defenses.

I must have missed where AJ was doing any whining - I certainly hope that's not the case, and I haven't seen anything in his character to this point to indicate he would do that in this situation. For the past four games (2 pre and 2 reg. season), AJ has dropped far too many passes. I am not sure he's had such a bad month in his career, actually. He really needs to get back to focusing, or all that talent he has will be for naught.
 
I want to see a WR go up and take the ball. Randy Moss does it all the time. I can't stand the guy, but he has no fear and if it's anywhere near him, he makes the catch. AJ started out doing that but seems timid now. It's not like he's trying to run before he catches but duck before he catches. Armstrong and Gaffney are doing pretty dang good jobs and I'd like to see them on the field full time. I haven't seen enough of Mathis to have an opinion, but he CANNOT be worse than "Brickhands" Bradford.
 
mathis cant do worse than any of the other rercievers. and i think sloan thomas is on the Titans practice squad.

He was quoted in the Houston Chronicle in the preseason saying he would rather see the Texans open up the running game with the pass instead of trying to open the passing game by running the ball. Not much of a whine, but still shows he's not happy with the way the offense was being run. Couple that with the sloppy play and you can see where I got my opinion.

Corey Bradford: The Texans' answer for all the double-teams Andre Johnson faces on the other side of the field, Bradford is the equivalent of assigning Paris Hilton to help Steven Hawking hammer out some mathematical proofs. Bradford shouldn't be on your fantasy squad, let alone anywhere near your starting lineup.

Uh-huh. Can you think of one guy in the history of football (even Jerry Rice) who has ever been "flawless"?

But it's fair to say that there has been a general malaise around the team. The O-line play badly, so Carr gets few chances to get a pass away and can find no rythm so throws badly when he does, so the receivers lose confidence and play poorly, so the defense feel that nothing they do can make any difference and they play poorly too. And the cycle repeats and intensifies. It's hard to break, but not impossible, and the bye week and a new co-ordinator (because of the newness, not his greater or lesser competence) should help.

As for playing a four receiver set, I take it you're one of the serious Carr-haters? Even granted that you don't think he's a good football player, wishing him dead seems a bit extreme. Davis is a horrible pass-blocker, so we would to all intents and purposes be trying to stop the rush with only our offensive linemen. Who, you may have noticed, are not very good. What we should do is start Armstrong (who has looked like a very good receiver every time he's been given a chance) instead of Bradford (who has looked like a smaller, even more inept version of Koren Robinson every time he's been given a chance).
 
I think Fred Gibson was cut by the Steelers. I sure would like the Texans to take a look at him. He is 6'4" and runs a 4.62 40. He was thought to be a pretty good receiving prospect in the last draft that could possibly develop into a #1 receiver.
 
If Capers is still sold on the run game over his receiving corps, I would like to see the Texans put big bucks into one of the best running backs ever. Don't care who, but I like the Texans receivers. I don't think they have a lot of potential - I think they've got it. Hopefully Pendry sees it. If they're still not convinced after this season, PLEASE invest in bigger runners.
