Ranking NFL teams by age: Rams the youngest, Lions the oldest

Meaningless statistics while we await real football. :truck:

Meaningless for performance, yeah, but man, what a look at an average NFL career. The spread is 24.98-27.15. Sure, there are outliers on every team, but it's awfully close.

These guys really don't have a lot of time in a typical NFL career. If you did this same ranking in the NBA or MLB I have to think it would be a much bigger range.

Dang, if that's calculated on this years roster gotta figure Texans would average 'bout 22 if not for Ed Reed.

Take an avg 26 year old team and replace one with Lechler at 37 and the average becomes 26.2. Reed and Lechler make it 26.36.

Looks like .36 is enough to drop a team ranking from 4-6 spots on the list presented. Punters and kickers really are an abnormality in this category. Who the hell cares if a journeyman punter named matt turk is 44 or 45 years old? I'd prefer instead the average age of defensive and offensive starters as a more accurate scale. If you truly want to focus on the "core" of a team that's how you'd rank them.

Yes I realize turk is no longer our punter but he's an extreme example...he's goddamned father time.

It's not going to matter when AJ is 45 and still catching 50 yard TD passes after making double moves on hapless secondaries. :fans:

Surprised by the Colts ranking. Thought they would have been much younger. Impressed with how far Seattle has come with such a young roster. Texans seem to have the necessary blend of vets and young players.
