Very interesting. About a fifty-fifty split. They will find wanting a trade and getting one are two different things. The big queston on the trade for the other club is: Is there a guy on the board worth more than 3000 points ? I mean if all Big Al wants is switch and a two...there'll be clubs lining up for the pick with a switch and a two. I believe he'll get stuck with the pick. He'll have to chose which player gets the fifty million dollar pay day.

Arizona could make Belichick look like a bad coach. Not that Oakland's ownership is light years ahead. Al Davis jumped the shark about 10 years ago.

JaMarcus has so much up side it's ridiculous. He has one of the strongest arms probably in the history of football. He's a gunslinger. He will make the stupid throws sometimes, but he will make up for them with incredible (and often game winning) throws.
Coming from a hardcore LSU fan who has watched almost all of his snaps, they should take him. Don't think so? Go back and watch the last play of the LSU/Arizona State game last year. One of the best passes you'll ever see to win the game in the final seconds.

it's not about how russell fits in with the rest of the team or coaching ideas. it's about al davis' philosophy that his team is never rebuilding and that the raiders are always a stone's throw away from making it back to the super bowl and that he's not going to wait 3-4 years for a quarterback to blossom.
We know. You've told us about a dozen times. Some people are just hard-headed.

anyone who says teams will NEVER do this or NEVER do that are just setting themselves up to be wrong. Al Davis loves big time CB's and LT's as he thinks they are the key to winning in the NFL but he also loves a vertical passing game. The Russell pick makes sense on a lot of levels.

Just like Kubiak's philosophy of not drafting a running back in the first round even though up until a week before the draft we were going to and tried to trade back into the first round to get one?
Raiders are going to pick JaMarcus Russell with the first pick.

there's no reason at all to think kubiak wouldn't waver on his feelings on certain things.

I think your line of reasoning that Davis refuses to rebuild is sound. I think he is stubborn about that, but I think the recent success of Roethlisberger and Young might make him more pliant on this issue.
I also think they would be willing to trade their pick for Vick. That would be pretty close to a win-win for both clubs. ATL could spin it to their fanbase as an offer they couldn't refuse. OAK would get a guy who has some pretty unique skills and a rocket arm. Say what you want about Vick's leadership, but he may be talented enough to be a punk and still get to a Super Bowl.

Fair enough. Davis probably is one of the most stubborn people in football, but the great thing about having Oakland and Detroit at the top of the draft is that you have no idea what they will do. Honestly, there is not a single player picked #1 or 2 that would shock me because I (and no one should) have any expectations over who they will pick.
There are very few players in this draft who are worth the first overall pick but Russell is one of them.

It's painful, but isn't that a 10 yr. deal he signed? Word out of ATL was that the Falcons are telling candidates for their coaching job "they're not married" to Vick. I won't profess to be a capologist, but there's gotta be some value in getting out from under that contract even if it's a huge short term hit. I figure since OAK will be looking at 55-60mm for the #1 pick, maybe they'd be willing to take on Vick's contract. If ATL could weather the short term cap implications, they'd be pretty happy about trading Vick for Schaub and Calvin Johnson the hometown hero, right? Those Vick jerseys would get replaced for Johnson ones real quick. Everybody wins, right?

Vick's signing bonus was for $30 million plus spread over 5 years. IF traded the entire bonus comes forward. Right now the Falcons would be out approx $24 mil if Vick is traded this year. The Falcons say they are "not necessarily married to Vick." What do you really expect them to say? The best option for Atlanta is put Vick in the same situation as Reggie Bush, tailback/receiver, with the added deminsion of passing and moving Schuab and his 60+ % completions to starting QB. I doubt Vick's ego will let that happen.

Matt Schaub is the most overhyped player in NFL history. He's nothing but a scouting report and projections. Maybe he is better than Vick, maybe he's horrible. Maybe he's Favre, maybe he's not even on Sage's level.

Matt's rookie year was 47%, last year 51% and this year 66%. His 66% rate this year mirrors his college stats. He is continually getting better as he gets more comfortable in the NFL. He now has 3 years experience under his belt and ready for his opportunity to be a starter in the league. Mangini sure wanted him bad this year after seeing him play against the Pats the prior year. He offered Abraham for Schaub but Falcons would not go for it.

Again, it's all hypothetical with Schaub. He's had a few nice games, but has been far from great in the sum of his playing time. He's got 3 years in the league, but about 5 games worth of "real" experience.
