All the sports-type talking heads have been speculating to anyone within earshot, "Houston WILL take Reggie Bush!", "Pete Carroll guarantees that Bush will be a Texan!" If this happens, what would become of Domanick Davis? He gained a thousand yards quietly his first two seasons, steadily improving his performance, and, if not for injury this year, would probably had his best season as a pro. I don't see Davis willingly taking the back-up role.

Also, with all of the hype surrounding Bush, what is the opinion on David Carr? Is he seen as a QB who hasn't gotten a chance to really prove himself with the O-line problems (as I think), or is he a near-bust if not an outright bust?

Speaking of the O-line, who should stay and who should go? What does Texanfan think is the best route to improvement? Draft or FA?
 
There arent any big egos on this team. DD has said numerous times, when confronted with the possibility of losing the starting spot, that he will do whatever it takes to win. Hes a great team player. Even so.. in the Denver system he will be sharing carries..not taking a back seat. Which is good because neither DD or Bush can handle a full season being the workhorse back for a team.

The opinions on Carr vary.. many feel that he is a lost cause.. many others feel that he hasnt gotten a fair shake. I feel he hasnt gotten a fair shake and has shown his potential too often to be discarded. Check the thread about Gaffney's off record comments about Carr in the main forum here.

I think Pitts, Hodgdon, and Wiegert need to stay.. they are the best we have IMO. Hodgdon doesnt really count as "one of the best" but hes a rookie that showed potential before he was injured. Of all the other linemen.. im up in the air on all of them. Wouldnt regret seeing any of them leave, or be mad if any of them stayed.. all of them have the POTENTIAL to start if they take to the new system.. and all of them have the potential to be depth if they dont start.

The best route for improvement is a little of this and a little of that. One good FA signing would give us some breathing room.. we..like many other teams.. would like to get LeCharles Bentley from New Orleans. I think a couple of good Olinemen out of the draft would be a big help too.
 
If we took Bush, I still see Domanick Davis getting more carries than him. In my opinion, for Bush to best help this offense it would be primarily as a WR to line up opposite Andre Johnson, and I'd let Davis get his 15 carries a game as our primary RB, have Morency sub in for 4-5 carries a game, Wells get carries on short yardage situations if he learns to use his size and becomes a better power runner, and then give Bush 5-8 carries a game, maybe more depending on our opponent, and then leave Bush out wide for most of the rest of the plays (AJ, Bush, and Mathis would be a ton of speed out there together, or have Gaffney and his sure hands in there as well). Mathis is a Pro-Bowl kick returner so we don't need Bush there, especially if we use the #1 pick and $50+ million on him (a lot of money to risk on returning kicks), although with Bush and Davis sharing RB duties and adding RB depth, it would free up one of them to return punts if Mathis is still having a problem doing that, although if Buchanon returns he is fully capable at that too.
 
As with any fan of any team you will get a mixed bag of opinions regarding the composition of them team and if that mix bodes well for future success. I for one do not hink we get value at the QB position when you look at the 7.8 million cap hit we took with Carr last year. But then again I do not see the value in taking a QB with the #1 pick, regardless of who it is. It appears we will extend him as I did have my fingers crossed we would release him and then have him test the market and pay him 10 points above market value with performance bonus kickers that would get him to what the extension would have looked like. But that was more of a dream than a reality.

Davis is solid and used with a multi position player like Bush will work in my opinion, but I do not want Bush as much as I would like to trade down.

The Oline is one of the highest paid in the league and their pass blocking was awful. Wade is another huge dissapointment at RT when one looks at this contract.

I hope that a new staff will breathe life into the untapped potential that exists all over this team.

The Eagles are my second favorite team. Who do you want them to take? I personally think they need a between the tackle RB to go with Westbrook (can Buckhalter ever stay healthy?), a starting WR, and some LB help. Also, Runyan is getting old and an ORT would be nice. I would like to see LenDale White in an Eagles uniform next year.
 
I'd like to see the Eagles get a DT who can collapse the pocket. The lack of a pass rush really hurt the Eagles in the past and killed them this season, and the lack of size in the middle made them susceptible to the run for years. Haloti Ngata from Oregon or, if he's not available, Gabe Washington from Michigan would fit.

The WR spot should get the next look. Yeah, yeah, yeah, TO's still on the roster, but he won't be after March 1st. The debate over whether he should stay or go will last for years, but what will be done will be done. Andy Reid finally got it right with Reggie Brown, but with the team's recent history of drafting WRs who wouldn't be able to play anywhere but Philly (see Mitchell, Freddie), I wouldn't get my hopes too high if the Eagles draft a wideout.

Next, the Iggs should draft or sign an OLB. Maybe it was the line problems, but the OLB play was lackluster at best this season. A.J. Hawk, Chad Greenaway, LaVar Arrington, or Julian Peterson in Jim Johnson's defensive scheme....*insert evil laugh here*

I don't think that Lendale White will be available at #14. He's too good to last that long. In fact, I think that White will be a better pro than Bush in the long run. I'm also one of the people who think that Westbrook can run between the tackles - with a fullback in front of him. Jon Ritchie filled that role until injury forced him to retire. His replacement, Josh Parry, would stink on ice. Of course the FB would have to be able to catch as well as block, ala Tom Rathman or Ritchie.

After that, it's a matter of re-signing Runyan, getting rid of Artis Hicks (I can't believe I used to back this stiff!), and getting some depth on the team - like at QB (HELLO ANDY!!!).
 
One other thing: we just signed DD to an extension.

So, if we trade him, we take a HUGE cap hit. So, we would have to get a lot (which is more than another team would pay - I doubt anyone gives up a 2nd for him and it wouldn't make sense for us to lose the depth and take the cap hit otherwise). So, the odds are that DD is here thru 2009.

I personally like the idea of having both. We still need another WR and a TE, but we need all the offensive weapons we can get.
 
I'd like to see the eagles draft horribly and fall apart, speaking as a cowboys fan. when TO went to the eagles, me and my co-workers were just completely tickled to death because we KNEW he was going to be a cancer and tear that team apart. the check is in the mail TO....next stop, giants, please.

Arrington would be a monster for Jim Johnson, but he's locked down in Washington and they are once again happy with him. Peterson probably will get locked down in San Francisco, but if not he'd be a nice addition to any team.
