Question, Should Texans look to trade Clowney for Draft picks?

I've been thinking about this for awhile now. Do you think the Texans should trade Clowney this off-season and try to get some draft picks for him before he loses most of his value from his injuries? I guess if you think he'll never live up to the hype it might be a good time to unload him especially with Mercilus playing as well as he has. Or, do you think he's just had some bad luck and will become the great player he was supposed be when he was drafted last year. What say you?

I have to think the Texans are getting pretty frustrated with him always being injured. It's like buying a Lamborghini and finding out it was a "lemon" and it's in the shop for repairs all the time!
 
Who would give us anything of worth for Clowney right now..he's done next to nothing. Furthermore, i don't get the sense that they're frustrated with him at all. All those guys are former players on the collegiate & pro levels and have been around the league long enough to understand that this kinda stuff happens to players at times..BoB has even come out and said as much. I think they all see him working hard & tyring very hard to get back out there & they understand that these injuries are delaying the development that they see he's making..it's just the fans don't see it & it's not at the rate that we as fans want...
 
Trade him to a medical school?

His value is nothing right now no reason sell. At this point we're boom or bust
 
If they can then parlay those picks to move up and get a QB, I would. The Texans aren't consistent winners with Watt and wouldn't be even if Clowney was on the field contributing. Got to get a QB.

2 bad assumptions here..

1, that whatever qb we pick is gonna be the right one...see our draft record over the last 3 years...

2, that we'd be consistent winners if we somehow managed to pick the right guy...see Phillip Rivers, Matt Ryan...Archie manning before them and a whole host of other good qbs over the years whose teams have still managed to not be all that good despite them being in the top tier at their position.
 
I understand the principle of this post, however Clowney will have to play a full season to have any trade value at all. In theory it would be a good idea to trade JJ Watt for a minimum 3 first rd draft picks. With Rick Smith running the draft and OB doing the choosing that would be a terrible terrible waste of three first rd draft picks.

Versus not getting that QB and being mediocre for forever. Like everything, it's not a guarantee if you get that QB. I don't know why the Bolts and Falcons haven't done more. Maybe their draft history is worse than the Texans. And yes, the Texans history in the draft is a huge hurdle to overcome, but if you don't try to get that QB, you won't be a contender year in and year out no matter how many JJ Watt's you have.
 
Didn't Rick shop around 2014 first overall pick & no takers? No reason to think anything has changed today based on tape.

Man, that's kind of a tough question because what I would take for him is probably not what the Texans would take and probably not close to what another team would be willing to give. I may go as low as a 3rd and a 4th rounder if the season plays out with him having more injury issues but, at this point in time, I just don't think there is another team out there willing to give much of anything for him. Now, if he stays healthy for the remaining games and holds his own on the field, I may want to ask for a 2nd and a 4th. I know this whole thing would be a long shot but all it takes is for one Coach or GM from another team to pull the trigger.
 
He has no on-field accomplishments and an extensive injury history, I doubt seriously anyone would give us anything of good value for him. Like others have said, I think we're stuck with him and most likely he'll go down as our biggest bust in team history.

His value isn't "nothing". It's low. It's very low but it's not "nothing".

If you are completely convinced that he's not going to be anything. If you're sure of it and realize that this first overall pick was completely wasted then you could probably get a 4, maybe a 3 for him. Someone is going to take a flyer on that guy. Probably someone planning on moving him to 4-3 DE who thinks he'll be better in his natural position.

The thing is if you're sure he's never going to work out you have to admit it to the world and look like a dumbass and no coach/GM ever does that this soon so realistically this will never happen.

The thing to hope for is that he maybe finishes the season without getting hurt again and makes some noise. Enough to maybe get you a 3 and a 4 for him from someone.

In this case, I believe that OB and Smith get a pass, IMHO it was McNair who said FINAL ANSWER.
 
before we have these convos, lets be sure hes completely recovered from his knee injury. It took Travis Kelcie 2 seasons to get back to normal,from the exact same injury and is now one of the leagues best imo
 
No. You don't buy high and sell low if you think it's a cyclical market. Our best value play is to see how well he recovers over the next season with two years remaining on his contract. But I wouldn't extend early without a steep discount which I wouldn't expect.
