I must say the one mistake the Texans made was not takin a decent center in the draft
I've read quite a bit about Hodgdon and have decided that he might be the
real sleeper for us in this years draft. First off, he's not real big but rated
as fairly quick and considered very good in blocking LBs. OK, since we're not
going against any 3-4 Ds in our own division (the place where it counts the most - we play each of them twice a year), he won't be asked to go head on
against a huge Nose Tackle where size would be real important for a center but will instead be uncovered much of the time and be blocking LBs or helping with stunts - another area where he excels. Also, in his sophomore year he was voted his schools (Arizina State) best OL. But that was when he played Right Guard. So he's obviously versatile. Then his junior year he switched to and started at center, but when he came back his senior year
he suffered a broken foot in Training Camp. But he bounched back from that
and was playing and starting at center in like the 2nd or 3rd game of the year. Many guys miss the whole year from a broken bone in the foot !
To sum it up, we obviously have a tremendous competitor here who never
quits, and he's also very versatile. And one more thing that's very significant -
last his play was highly rated against 2 Dlineman (Patterson USC and Castillo NW) who went in tfhe first round in this years draft and most feel that perfformance against strong matchups is the best indicator about one's potential to succeed in the NFL. So I think we got a lot of value for a 5th rounder !
