Are we going to sign Carr or what. We have to sign him before the game ends on Sunday I think. So what are everyones thoughts....I hope we keep him.
Sorry if this is already discussed.

Not sure, it would be good to sign him, but we may be looking to put the Transisiton tag on him and then maybe get him for a cheaper price. right now Oakland is quite interested in him, but I doubt they will throw crazy money at him on the tag. We will see though.

We don't have to sign him till the end of the NFL season, not the end of the Texans 16 game schedule. Carr won't get a tag. They will just pick up the option on his existing contract. This is still his rookie deal.

Vinny I hope that is the case. I am in favor of the 5.5 option as I have stated before. I was simply stating an alternative option. Casserly and other members of the Texans office have been chirping up that Carr is our QB and will remain.

I think (emphesis on think) his contracts details that he be signed before the FA period starts. The FA period starts in early March I think (emphesis on think).

My belief is that Mr. McNair is waiting to do so because he wants his new coaching staff to evaluate Carr, QB talent in the draft, and QB talent in the FA market. Then he'll and the new GM (if that dream comes true) will decide if we take the 2 year option or the 3 year option or none at all.

I'm sure we'll pick it up but if it's the 2 year option, expect us to either aquire a QB via FA, via trade, or via draft. Carr will be the starter of course to start camp but his job will not be ecthed in stone like the previous 4 years. He'll have some talented competition with a real shot of taking his job away

Honestly we almost have no option but to pick it up. Unless we want to pick a qb in the first round and spend another 4 years grooming him which i don't like. There really aren't any solid qb's to pick up through fa and i doubt anybody in their right mind would want to come to houston from the fear of getting sacked 70 times a season.
