Question about Slay

I know he ran a horrible 40 4.82 is terrible for a safety but do you guys think that he could play linebacker. He is a little small right know at 6'3 216 pounds but if he add 10 to 15 pounds he would be about average. So my question is what do you think about drafting slay as a project LB late in the draft.

If he could get up to 235 or so without losing any speed then he could be a decent LB, he hits well enough for it. I'm not sure I see him being able to add that much weight without losing a decent amount of his athleticim though.

there have been some teams asking that very question...i think he's kinda like the thomas davis mold type of safty/linebacker...personally i think he could add the weight and not lose any of the speed but i'm still waiting to see how he ran at our pro day

I think Davis ran like a 4.6 if Im not mistaken, that is respectacble.

Id take him over the two we have now. At least he wont miss tackles like Earl and CC have. Heck, they cant get over to cover the deep corner route so who cares.

If he gains more weight, he will be even slower. I dont want a LB/SS running over 5.2

You forgot to mention that his quickness and agility is already horrible:brickwall If he adds the weight, it'll be like having a statue playing linebacker

NFL | Slay works out at Pro Day
Sat, 1 Apr 2006 19:02:00 -0800

Gil Brandt, of NFL.com, reports Texas Tech S Dwayne Slay measured a height of 6-3 1/2 and a weight of 215 pounds at his Pro Day. He ran the 40-yard dash with times of 4.75 seconds and 4.72 seconds while finishing the short shuttle in 4.40 seconds and the three-cone drill in 7.29 seconds.

Better numbers at his pro day, might still be an option.
