Question about one of our assistants...

About Coach Hoke, or DB coach...
Considering what he has had to work with (Matt Stevens and Eric Brown, having to start multiple rookies including a 7th rounder and 4th rounder coming off of an injury, little support from pass rush, etc.) How good of a coach do you think he is? Also, if there are any closet Florida fans here, how were his defenses there? Thanks

I don't know how he did at Florida, but I know that Saban did offer him the D coordinator position with the Dolphins. That doesn't necessarily mean anything, but at least someone thinks something of him.

I don't have any specific stats to back this up but if I remember right Florida was an average-at-best defense before he got there and within 2-3 years they were ranked in the top 10 if not higher in defense. I like Hoke a lot, he seems to know football really well and has developed some of our better players (dropped off this year with the brilliant move of releasing Aaron Glenn and with Coleman's complete lack of effort) and he seems to be one of the more fiery coaches on the team that will actually get in someone's face and inspire them to play harder.

So why didn't he leave? That would be a promotion.

Do you have a link to that? I believe that former Texan d-line coach Todd Grantham was interviewed for defensive coordinator at Miami, but took the Browns DC job instead. Also, Miami asked to speak with Pendry for their OC spot, but the Texans refused to let Joe interview. I can't remember any team looking at Hoke for their DC position this offseason, though Pitt considered him for their HC job before selecting Dave Wannstedt.
