Question about hd widescreen

Hi, i was wondering why the texans game on channel 11 (channel 311 hdtv on timewarner) was not widescreen? Then on Fox (channel 309), the dallas game was widescreen? Then on channel 11 after the game, the us open was televised in widescreen, the reason i am asking is because i bought a widescreen hd tv before the summer and was hoping that all the games would be take advantage of my tv. Thanks for any feedback.

Its a huge difference betweeen watching the game in 16:9 then 4:3 ratio, you can see more of the field

If the game is available in HD it will be wide screen. Borders come up during commercials and highlights I believe.

See that's my gripe w/ TWC. What kind of TV do you have? Does it support 720p and 1080i. Fox brodcasts in 720p for HD Sports. 720p is a HD format that is better for sports viewing (better viewing period if you ask me). I'm not sure if CBS does theirs in 720 or not. If you have a TV that has a HD decoder in the set itself, it does decode in 720p on CBS. I was at my sisters house today and the US Open was in 720p.
