QB question

Why offer a 3 for a guy we know nothing about just because he's been in the league for a year? We have our own guy that's been in our own system for 2 years that we know nothing back. Oh and he "only" cost us a 4.

I figure that Rick Smith sucks with those mid round picks anyway and many of us, myself included, really like Hundley last year. If he's learned anything from Rodgers then he'd be someone worth pursuing. An inquiring phone call from Rick don't cost anything, and I'd give up a 3rd for a possible starting QB.

Haven't we already done this whole if they sat behind <insert future HoF QB here> then he'd worth something. Reference Hoyer, Mallet, and every other QB not named Steve Young that's sat behind one of the best of their time.

I thought 1st & 2nd round QBs were all that's worth anything.

Does giving up a 3rd for a guy drafted in the 5th make him a 2nd?

I'd much rather take a guy in the first like Cook, then come back in the 5th & take a guy like Hogan or Kessler if they're still there. Or better yet, I'd rather use my 3rd to get Prescott.

Or Aaron Rodgers.

A 1st rd pick stands apart from the theory some late round pick will get to the same ballpark sitting behind a great.
Steve Young was drafted in the 1st round (1st overall) in the 1984 supplemental round.Aaron Rodgers was drafted late in the 1st round. Seems comparable.

Wow. 3 HOFers came out of that supplemental draft.

But the main issue was the concept of late round guys becoming starters due to sitting behind greats. Neither Young nor Rodgers speak to that point since they were 1st rounders. Plus Young is just too unique a path.

There isn't a good track record of 3+ rd QBs becoming much more than their draft position due to sitting behind 'a great.' Can you name backups to Brady, Manning, Brees, Rodgers who have gone on to be solid starters?

I wasn't arguing that point, I was just adding Rodgers' name to Young's. It's rare for a team to have a great QB come in behind a great, HOF type QB is where my thoughts were.

Good point. I forgot about Rodgers sitting behind Favre. In my defense I try to block out the selfie and croc loving Favre.

I wasn't suggesting Brett Hundley because he sits behind Rodgers. I suggest Hundley because I think he was a good QB at UCLA and that sitting behind Rodgers was a bonus, that he might have picked up some info. or skills. Hundley was first a pocket QB with a good arm, but he had the athleticism to run if needed much like Rodgers. I think Hundley would be worth a phone call to see what GB wants for him. He's an option that I hope Rick Smith looks into.

I wouldn't argue with the idea of simply making the phone call, but Hundley's got three more years of cheap rookie deal left. Seriously doubt GB would ship him off for anything reasonable, just not much reason for them to.
