profootballtalk version 3 mock

Wolf

100% Texan
re's a no-frills, no-B.S. version of our mock, based directly on input from a high-level scout, who unlike most mocksters actually gets a paycheck from an NFL team.

2. Dolphins: Aaron Rodgers, QB, Cal.

3. Browns: Ronnie Brown, RB, Auburn.

Interesting mock... I would think we would trade down if this scenario played out.. of course if the deal was right. with rolle, rogers and miller still on the board.

The fact that they have Benson going to the Vikings just ruins the whole mock for me. The Vikings have too many good RBs as it is... and they prefer a speedy type of back that excels in dump off passes.

Benson just wouldnt make a lot of sense going to the Vikings.

That pick suprised me too.. To me the vikes would go with a WR IMO

There is a possibility that the Vikings go RB with the 7th pick if Braylon, Mike Williams, and DJ are gone...They have a few decent RBs, but no one who will rush for 1200 yards anytime soon, and Benson would be a good choice for them because the main thing they're losing in Randy Moss is a goal line threat, and Benson is a good goal line back...

Eh.. I still dont see it. They have PROVEN RBs that work in their system... for them to pick up a power back like Benson?.. they would have to change the way they run their offense, or use him as a change of pace back. I dont see them picking up a change of pace back with the 7th pick in the draft... especially when they have two first rounders to work with and the draft is very deep at RB.

they need a WR.. and Troy Williamson is pretty close to Moss.. athletically. hes tall and fast.. he may not be as good as Randy.. but he could possibly fill that hole in their offense to some degree.

I could see williamson in a vikes uniform.. and I could see the cards take benson and redskins take pac-man given the loss of smoot

13. Texans: Marcus Spears, DE, LSU.

I could see this happening...and I would hate to see Parcells face if Johnson landing in the Cowboys lap..

The Vikings need a durable option at RB and each of their RBs have some sort of issue...Bennett is injury prone and will probably be traded, Moe Williams is old, Onterrio Smith has off-field issues, and Mewelde Moore is young and uproven...Benson would solidify their RB corps...Their old offensive scheme was built around Culpepper and Moss, and now that Moss is gone, their RBs are going to look a lot worse becuase 20% of the opposing team's defense isn't going to be focused on chasing Moss down the field every down...

Williamson is an option, but I don't think they'd take him at the 7th pick...If Braylon, Mike Williams, and DJ were gone, they'd either take Merriman, Benson, or Cadillac, or trade down...

I dont see the Titans taking Alex Smith. Billy Volek looked good last year, I think he is their QB of the future at this point.

If DJ is available at 7, he will be donning a Vikings cap...There are a lot of flaws in that mock...

1. 49ers: Aaron Roders, QB, Michigan.

3. Browns: Derrick Johnson, LB, Auburn.

There.. I fixed it :)

you think they would still get DJ when they have Henderson, claiborne, newman, Cowart, and harris?

And Actually.. I wouldnt be surprised to see the Titans take Antrel Rolle (who has been sliding down mocks simply cause he hasnt been hyped much.. he is still very talented.. and the most likely CB to come out and make an immediate impact)

then the Vikings could take Mike Williams.. and the Cowboys could take Merriman or Troy Williamson.

food for thought

Napolean Harris has potential but has never proven anything on the pro level, EJ Henderson hasn't been properly utilized in their scheme and isn't even a starter there anymore, Claiborne plays for the Rams now, I don't even think there's a Newman on their team, I'm racking my brain, but I just can't think of one, and Cowart is an ILB...Their starters are Dontarrious Thomas at the Will, Cowart at the Mike, and Harris at the Sam...They are solid at the OLB spots, but not necessarily good...

the vikings picking up benson (or any of the other top backs in the draft) in the fist round isn't that surpirsing. i've heard on more than one occasion that with the departure of randy moss, tice wants use his 'jie-normous' o-line for some run blocking, and have power running become a major portion of their offense next season.

I'm bored so I'll give my opinions on this list...

1. Rodgers - Good pick
2. Brown - They'll probably either take him or Benson...If they go Smith, all Hell will break loose...
3. DJ - May be the pick, not sure...I think they take Smith if he's available, but Romeo is a defensive coach, so you never know...
4. Braylon - Good pick
5. Cadillac would be a good pick for them, but I think that Clayton's open campaign for Williams may get him taken here...
6. Williams - If he's available, the Titans have to take him, they can get a CB later...
7. Williamson - I really, really doubt the Vikings reach for him when they could feasibly get him at 18...If he were gone at 18, there's always Clayton, who's a better receiver IMO...
8. Smith - Alex Smith is a QB from Utah, not a RB from Texas, and if he's available here, he'll be their pick...If he's not available, they'll either go RB or CB...
9. Pac-Man - I think Rolle will be the first CB taken, especially after Pac-Man's bad UI from the combine...
10. Barron - The Lions won't take Barron because they're high on Kelly Butler at RT...They need depth though, so they'll take an OT later on...They'll probably take Spears or Merriman...
11. Merriman - Good pick, but he's not a LB from Texas...
12. Spears - He's not a DT and he's not from Maryland...If he's available, he's the pick...If he's gone, Barron is the pick...
13. Benson - He's not a DE from LSU...If he's available, I don't see how we don't take him...Chances are if we stay put, we take WR or CB...

i dont think Titans will go WR.. i think they will go Pac-man. THey need to replace the CB that were lost. Plus Pac-man can do kick returns makes him hard to pass up

The Vikings will go Mike Williams or trade up to get him

I think the Cardinals will go Rolle. I believe the Travis Henry deal will go through. Sooner or later. THey need a CB out there. too

on the positions/colleges.. I just took the existing draft we had.. copied and pasted.. and switched the names around.. I went back and changed some of the positions as an afterthought.. but obviously didnt proofread otherwise i would have noticed their colleges are listed too.. and I missed some of the positions :)

I think that if DJ falls anywhere near that low then we probably jump all over any trade offers to move up, if he fall past 5, I think we have a solid chance at him.
