Pro-Bowl Teams.

Way to go AJ.

Have to say, I am happy to see that the hype machine for Ray Lewis got semi-denied and that Farrier is the starter with Lewis as the alternate. How in the world did Manning not get starter though?--and I don't even like the guy. Guess Trotter wasn't as washed up as some thought--made the pro-bowl with only 7 starts.

Maybe he should catch a few more balls jagsbch

The BS is that DROB got left out

Thats ok though cause he will be Rookie of the year

I have to say, Dunta was screwed big time. he played like a pro-bowler, and got into a groove with your scheme pretty quick.

no Jimmy Smith? ya know... he did outplay AJ, and he is 35 years old.

props to AJ, though/

Come on he leads AJ in every stat but catches and that is more to his credit if you think about it. I mean he has more yards for 20+, yards per catch, TD's, as well as more yards over all ... What the what? Big John has been out playing Stroud yet Stroud gets in again? All I am saying is that this is a total sham

Every year, there are deserving players that get left off. Jimmy Smith was one that got left off this season. Can't please everybody.

Jimmy isn't very exciting to watch, AJ makes plays, Jimmy just catches the ball.

Smith has had a great year and definitely should have been in consideration. Just FYI though you missed one other stat. AJ averages 6.5 yards after each catch--the most for any WR with over 30 receptions. Smith averages 2.8.

on CBS sportsline pete prisco made up his own pro bowl roster and dunta was a starting CB....dunta has been playing great the past few weeks. bummer that he got the shaft. :thumbdown

but way to go AJ!!!!!!!! :jumpbanan i wonder how good he will do with a proven qb leading the team (nothing against carr though, but i think it would be interesting to see what he can do with someone else throwing him the ball)

but jimmy has more TDs and yards than AJ. I could care less if the guy "just catches balls" and "isn't very exciting to watch" if this guy can catch 2000 yards and 15 TDs, than I'd take him over AJ and Jimmy. "fun to watch" doesn't win football games. your logic is flawed

Fact is Aj is going and Jimmy aint. Go back to the Jags website and as a matter of fact " fun to watch" beat Jacksonville in week 8!!!!!!!!!!!!! :jumpbanan :coolb:

dodging my statments because yours are unfounded? admit, who cares if a guy "isn't very exciting to watch" and "just catches the ball", if he can put up the numbers needed to win...........

:BananaWav have fun watching Jimmy!

you do know that "old @$$" jimmy smith outplayed AJ this year, dont you?

I can see you have a lot to learn so I will be patient with ya... That has got to be the funniest thing I have ever heard though. Did you even watch last weeks game? I mean how could you have missed it came on right after yours? You have got to be trying to pull my chain... You cannot possibly be this out of touch, can you?

There is no doubt that Jimmy Smith is a talented receiver worthy of going to the Pro Bowl but like I said, someone deserving always gets left off.

Tory James
2004
Cincinnati Bengals
Games: 14
Total Tackles: 54
Solo: 50.0
Assisted: 4
Sacks: 0
Ints: 7
Yards: 56
Avg: 8.0
Long: 23
TD's: 0
Passes Deflected: 3

Dunta Robinson
2004
Houston Texans
Games: 14
Total Tackles: 76
Solo: 63.0
Assisted: 13
Sacks: 3
Ints: 6
Yards: 146
Average: 24.3
Long: 61
TD's: 0
Passes Deflected: 13

Bold Numbers = more.

I will readily admit not having seen James play much,
but CB has to be the position you have to be most careful looking at stats on. Deion Sanders' stats looked like crud because he truly was so good teams didn't even challenge him, therefore fewer passes deflected, fewer INT chances. That may be the case with James--from the INT's and pass deflections it may be teams have shied away from him but when they have challenged he has made them pay.

the past two weeks, jimmy was interfeared (as in having the defence flagged for pass interference in the endzone) and still came down with the TD.

I think I am getting this Photoshop thing down

I really thought Dunta was in for Hawaii. if it makes you feel any better, champ bailey and john lynch are gonna start this year. did you see them play at all this year?

Look I like AJ, don't get me wrong here I have a lot of respect for him, it's just we all know who has been on top of things most of this season, so you all should not have too much trouble understanding my shock at this reality.

I think we are all shocked at the fact that 2 players we all hold in very high esteem didn't make it. This is so unexplainable. Who has the final say in these things anyway? Look I will be more than happy to congratulate you all on AJ making it, but I hope to God you all see my point here. I am not here to bash on AJ as I do believe he will be a great WR, it's just that Jimmy has schooled him this year. You all know it and I know it. This is just crazy :shocked

Willie Roaf. ouch!!!!

i remember looking at unprotected players on the expansion list prior to our 1st year..... I kept thinking WILLIE ROAF WILLIE ROAF (not just because i enjoy saying Willie) but folks said he had issues (age, injury)....... now he's going to Hawaii.

Please remind me why we passed on this pro-bowler.

He hasnt schooled him...

Great news ! Congrats ! He was very deserving, but that doesn't
necessarily mean he makes it. Just puts more pressure on the coaching staff to upgrade his role in our offense (and on a consistant, week-to-week basis).

Andre Johnson - 73 catches, 1083 yards, 5 TDs
Jimmy Smith - 69 catches, 1133 yards, 6 TDs
Reggie Wayne - 71 catches, 1059 yards, 11 TDs

Wayne's not a Pro Bowler either. Like gwallaia said...every year there is somebody worthy that's left off. This year, it was Wayne more than anybody else (considering the players that were selected before him).

The Pro Bowl has almost become as big of a joke as the Heisman.

Consider:

Hines Ward - 75 catches, 972 yards, 4 TDs
Drew Bennett - 76 catches, 1171 yards, 10 TDs

Ward? Pro Bowl. Bennett? Staying home.

You know I'd want Reggie on there, but I can why he's not. People don't want 2 WRs from the same team in Hawaii. I do believe Jimmy Smith had a probowl deserving year, especially because he made so may big catches this year.

believe me, all Tory James really did was CATCH interceptions, he didn't make them like dunta. Jeff Garcia threw 2 directly to him in the first browns-bengals game, and Kelly Holcomb threw a few to him as well. Dunta is a playmaker, while Tory James is Johnny-on-the-spot.

Pro Bowl never had a problem sending Chris Carter and Randy Moss when they were teammates.

Speaking of which, this breaks Moss' string of appearances in Hawaii.

I totally agree with this. Tory was lucky with alot of his Ints. His teammates made the QB make a bad pass, and Tory would just jump up and grab it. Dunta's ints were mostly caused by his positioning, and agressivness.

Also you cant defend the 13 pass deflections vs. Torys 3. This stat is the telling stat here.

Also, on the Jimmy Smith vs. Andre stuff, I think they both had great seasons, and both deserved to go. I just think that getting the yards and stats that Andre got on a 3 year old team, vs what smith got on a 10+ year old yeam is the difference. The jags have more pieces in place, and a better defense.

If the Texans had the 28th rated pass defense and Robinson had such a good year, who was getting torched all season? Did Aaron Glenn have that bad of a year?

Not saying Robinson didn't have a good year and he will most certainly be a contender for DROY. But that rating has got to have something to do with him.

Huge, it was a lack of pass rush that caused the Texans to be ranked 28th.

Yes and neither of them played well enough for their spots.

My point you quoted though was that CB's can hardly be judged by stats at all. For instance, Champ's stats look pretty much the same this year as last, but he has gotten lit up like a pinball machine several times this year. What they need is a stat for plays given up over 20 yds, 40 yds for CB's and a stat for # of times thrown at vs. receptions allowed.

Here is the guy you should be questioning rather than AJ:

Hines Ward - 75 catches, 972 yards, 4 TDs

A lot of these guys get elected based on previouse year(s) work and they are from media biased teams. Some of them could die and probably get elected once or twice more after their dead. Dunta flat got robbed. Probably had more to due with being a rookie than anything. IMO, AJ was a MILD surprise. I thought he deserved it, but it hasn't been a statement season, particularly the last 3 weeks and we are a losing club.

Thanks for the feedback--like I said, haven't really seen James play. The point of the post was that CB's have to be judged by watching them play rather than stats that can be very deceiving. From what you say, Robinson may have gotten a raw deal.

Sure I can. If teams respect a CB because they are so good (prime example Deion Sanders in his prime) they don't throw at them or avoid throwing at them, thereby giving the CB less opportunities to deflect passes. Do it this way--go to NFL.com's stats for defensive backs--look for all the well regarded guys--Woodson, Bailey, McAllister, Springs, Smoot--they aren't at the top of the list for pass deflections because they get less opportunity.

FYI--don't know where the 13 and 3 came from, but NFL.com has Dunta tied for the most pass deflections in the NFL at 19 and Tory James with 10.

moved where I'm surprised that no one is talking about Johnson making the pro bowl or D rob missing it. Maybe its because they keep getting moved which stiffles conversation.

It's all these Jags fans trying to rain on AJ's parade. Congrats guys, sorry about the sour grapes... :BananaWav

What really pisses me off is how we are in the AFC and both are ranked higher than Cowboys who BTW are in the NFC by far the worst conference in the league yet they have 4 players in the Pro Bowl. :shocked

I mean not only are we in the AFC, but we have one of the best divisions in football yet we got no respect whatsoever... :thud:

All you have to do is look in more than one forum--pro bowl has been at the top of the NFL forum for hours now.

looks like aj is getting his much deserved recognition. Its really bush that dunta didnt get in but theres a cbs article that says he should have been a pro bowl starter. Looks like weve got two superstars in the making. now only if carr would catch up. :coolb:

Guys James was on the most this year

L. Evans 5 101 1TD
T. Brown 2 27
T. Taylor 2 40
Antonio Bryant 8 131 2TD
P. Burress 3 46
L. Coles 6 74
K. Johnson 4 58
T. Fleming 2 50 1TD
R. Smith 5 50 1TD
A. Davis 1 99 1TD
P. Burress 4 69
R. Hymes 4 61 1TD
M. Booker 1 5
S. Moss 4 55

46 866 7Td's 18.8 YPC

3 Ints vs Cleveland
1 vs Dallas
1 vs Miami
1 vs Washington
1 vs Denver

Tory James made the Probowl only because he got picks against the worst QB's in the NFL.

Youngstown Colt said:
That 99 yarder against andre davis came against Deltha O'neil, not Tory James

I agree dunta>james, but use good stats for it

CB statistics are subject to lots of error, there is no stat that says Tory James gets burned for big plays by every WR he lines up across. :bguitar:

Just painting the picture using the guys he was on most of the games.
