I know this is a lot of info, but this is my complete updated board. Position rankings with grades. The difference between the FA and UDFA grade is that the FAs are basically the priority free agents. I don't rate these players as draftable but I could see a team using a 7th on them if they wanted to make sure nobody else could sign them. The UDFAs are the top undrafted players who I think would have a shot at a NFL roster.

Do your rankings change at all if we're solely looking at 3-4 two-gap? Or are you just looking at pure talent at their listed position regardless of scheme?

This is not specific to the Texans. This is just based on overall talent. The board would look drastically different if it were specifically for the Texans. A lot of talented players would be left off completely due to scheme, injury, attitude, or any number of reasons.

Our DB ratings are different. Although I didn't go as in depth as you have. I also have Justin Ellis rated in the 3rd/4th rd range. Glad to see you've got my sleeper OL picked (Patchan)

I think we're both huge fans of Patchan. I'd love to see him stay healthy for awhile. He's very talented.

I like Ellis but don't love him. Like most big DTs who played at small schools, he is very raw and needs a lot of coaching. He's gotten by on size only up to this point.

He's got good feet though.

Reminds me of Kendrick Ellis/Chris Baker. 2 very solid big guys.

I know you have them at #2 and #3 WR, but do you really like Beckham over Mike Evans?

A UDFA is a person who didn't get drafted and therefore is free to sign with any team. (Undrafted Free Agent)

A FA is a player who may or may not have been drafted, had signed a contract with an NFL team and could've either been been released or played out their contract. Either way they are no longer under contract therefore making them a free agent (FA).

Right now, the big difference is FAs can be signed before the next draft.

Look at the question in context. We are in the draft forum. It is on post combine rankings. The list obviously is not talking about FAs in the sense of NFL players who are no longer under contract due to expiration of their contract or release as none are listed.

There's no real difference. It's only my designation to signify a difference in talent level. I can see how it looks confusing.

The guys I list as FA are guys that I wouldn't use a pick on but I could see why a team would. They are also the first guys I expect to be picked up as free agents as soon as the last pick is in. Basically the top crop of undrafted players.

The guys I list as UDFA are guys that I wouldn't draft whatsoever but I think they could possibly make a roster in the right situation.

I tried to clear this up in the original post but I don't think I did a very good job.

I do. He is quicker, more athletic, has better hands, and is far more polished. That's not to say that Evans is deficient in any of those areas, but I have Beckham rated higher in each one. Basically, Evans' only advantage is that he's bigger.

I don't agree with all of the advantages you've given Beckham over Evans. But even if I did, you're dismissing Evans' size advantage too quickly. Look at the top WRs in the NFL. Their profile fits Evans more so than Beckham. Big WRs are dominating the league. Evans has 5" and 30lbs on Beckham, and is plenty athletic. I think the conversation should be who is #1 between Watkins and Evans rather than who is #2.

I tend to agree with Lucky on this one. Reminds me of a faster version of Jimmy Graham. He is going to be a match-up nightmare for most teams. A prime time player, tested out very close in respective combine, close to same arm length, vertical & forty (Jimmy outweighed him by 30 lbs). :specnatz:

To each their own. It depends on how you define the top WRs in the NFL. By the top 10 in receiving yards last season here is where their size measures:

Similar to Evans:
Calvin Johnson
Demaryius Thomas
Andre Johnson

Closer to Evans than Beckham:
Josh Gordon
Alshon Jeffery
Jordy Nelson

Closer to Beckham than Evans:
A.J. Green
Pierre Garcon

Similar to Beckham:
Antonio Brown
DeSean Jackson

That's a pretty wide variety of guys. It's not like every single great WR is 6-4, 230. There are dominant big WRs in the NFL. I would never deny that. But just because Evans is big too does not mean that he will be just as dominant. I have this argument with a different poster every single year and I've been right every time so far (which may mean I'm due to be wrong soon). Size is a great thing to have for a WR, but it can also be a detriment to development. Too often these big guys don't develop the necessary skills to beat coverage because they have never had to. Then they get to the NFL and it's a whole different world.

The main point is that I see Evans as a more dominating athlete with a higher potential ceiling, but I see Beckham as a more skilled football player with a far higher floor because he has already learned the intricacies of the position as he will have to play it at the next level. That's on tape and not debatable.

Evans is very raw and gets by on being bigger than the guy covering him. When he faced CBs with NFL talent (E.J. Gaines, Ross Cockrell) who he couldn't out-athlete he disappeared, even with Manziel throwing to him.

If you watch the games where Beckham has poor numbers you see him getting open consistently, but his QB can't get him the ball. That's not a problem Evans had except when they played LSU.

Will Evans improve his skills when he gets to the NFL? I'm sure he will. But so will Beckham. Just because he's further along does not mean he will stop getting better.

I can almost guarantee you that Green had more skills and position/route knowledge when he came out. However, I think bah was going by weight with that one as Green weighs 9 lbs more than Beckham and 23 lbs less than Evans.

Well, everything's debatable. Especially things like route running and polish, which are subjective. Especially without coaches' tape.

Both will be rookies and both will have to learn the intricacy of the NFL WR position. It's pretty rare that a rookie wideout comes in and tears up the league. There have only been 3 rookies come in and gain over 1000 yards receiving over the past 10 drafts (Keenen Allen, AJ Green, Marques Colston). Their average height? 6'3".

Many previous rookie WRs have done pretty well. 1000 yards you're correct, but that doesn't mean many others haven't had success.

2012 - Blackmon and Hilton over 800 yards along w/ Gordon in a reduced season
2011 - Julio Jones 960 yards w/ 8 TDs
2010 - Mike Williams 964 w/ 11 TDs, etc.

I don't even know what we are talking about anymore, I will stop.

Both. Green is 6-4 but he has a very slender build like Beckham and he relies on his skills and not his size to make plays.

Maybe my wording there is too strong but you get the point. Nobody has watched both and come away thinking that Evans is more polished or a better route runner. It's clear as day to me. I don't have access to coaches' tape but I have a DVR and I know what I'm looking for.

Both will have to learn on the job, but Beckham is already a step ahead and faces less of a learning curve. The things he will have to do at the next level he has already shown he can do. Evans has not. That doesn't mean that he cannot learn but it is more of a projection.

Was it their height that got those guys their stats? Or was it their skills?

Colston has the best argument for his height. He was a virtual nobody until Drew Brees made him famous.

Green was the most polished WR to come out in quite some time, and the highest rated since Calvin Johnson.

Allen was the most polished WR in his draft class. He fell in the draft because a PCL sprain kept him out of the combine. At his pro day he didn't want to run the 40 because he said he was only 80% healthy. The scouts begged him to and he ran a 4.71. Dropped from a 1st round projection to a 3rd round pick because all of a sudden he had speed concerns.
