Possible trade between Cards and Vikes?

I read this at the Jags MB and since I know nothing about fanball.com I don't know how reliable this story is...

The Vikings have the money to pursue the top remaining free agent receiver Plaxico Burress (Steelers). The problem with such a move is that Burress has a reputation for being a Moss-like head case with half the talent of the former No. 84. Team officials are scheduled to meet with Travis Taylor (Ravens), which would be a dramatic downgrade from Moss.

Trade rumors indicate that the Vikings are considering the idea of sending running back Michael Bennett and a second-round pick to the Cardinals in exchange for wideout Anquan Boldin. Team officials failed to address these rumors during a Thursday press conference, so it's hard to say how serious the talks have been.

He wants alot more money for his lone good season than the Cards want to pay him. Makes sense to me. They get a good RB, a high draft pick and they still have Larry Fitzgerald.

If they do the Cards will be kicking them selfs in the near future... this guy has the mold of TO his rookie year, and if he didnt get hurt last year he would of had another good season.... i just see him as one of the best WR's in the NFL in a couple of years..

sounds like a portis-bailey situation from last year. the cards have to make sure that bennett is healthy, though.

Naw, The Portis-Bailey deal actually made sense for both teams. This one is just highway robbery given the depth of the Vikes at RB.

Why is Boldin considered an "up and comer" after just one good season but Bennett isn't? He put up a 1200+ yard season his 2nd year in. The wild-card would be him remaining healthy.

For Minnesota, they give up one of their RBs (they've got plenty) and get a promising WR (which they could use).

For Arizona, they get a homerun hitting RB (when healthy) as well as a 2nd round pick. They lose a promising WR but have a star in Fitzgerald and another first round draft pick in Bryant Johnson.

How would this be a bad trade for either team?

Think of it this way...if Boldin can go for 1350+ yards with Jeff Blake and Josh McCown throwing him the ball, what would he do with a Culpepper??

Was he going to go for 1350+ again with Larry Fitzgerald on the other side of the field? He won't in Minnesota with Kelly Campbell and Nate Burleson either.

I'm not saying Minnesota would get the short end of this deal. Just saying it'd be a fair trade because Bennett is a player in his own right.

Oh how I hope Fitz turns into a bust....ugh, thats another story.

Both are semi-risks. Bennett cant seem to stay healthy and Boldin is "unproven" as well. However, it is far harder to find a 1200 yard(projecting last years totals out, adding 2003s stats and dividing by 2...) WR than it is to find a 1000 yard back. Even then, Bennett hasnt proven he is a 1000 yard back.

what i meant was the holdout equation. portis (2 years experience) was prolly going to hold last year, and boldin (2 years experience) is a likely holdout this without a new, more lucrative, deal. i don't think it is as much as one sided as people think. it seems both teams would be dealing from a strength.

vikes- slew of RB's (bennett/ o. smith/moore)
cards- a decent stable of WR's (boldin/johnson/fitzgerald)

i would rather have onterrio smith than bennett, though.

You've opened the can of worms now....spill it.

Fitz is a great guy, why would you hope he busts?

Let's just say, from certain issues that have happened in my life, I have issues with anything that comes from in/near/around/through Pittsburgh... Classy, mature player...still got that Pitt stink on him though

You went to Penn State didn't you? ;)

My ex's mom is from Pittsburgh, went to PSU, and still chants "Eat **** Pitt!"

Bennett went for over 1200+ his 2nd year in the league.

Yes, he had ONE good season. He hasnt been able to stay healthy since. His career projections would be an 857.5 yard per season back.

As opposed to Boldin who's had several?

Explain to me again how Bennett can put up 1296 yards in one season but still not prove that he can be a 1000 yd RB.

Boldin averages 20.6 more yards per game RECEIVEING, than Bennett does RUSHING the ball.I mean runningbacks get the ball 20-25 more times per game than a WR does...Also taking into consideration who'd been throwing him the ball, he's easily the better player now by leaps and bounds.

Do you think with Moe Williams, Mewelde Moore, Onterrio Smith and Bennett that either one of those RBs has seen 20-25 touches per game?

(Names changed to reflect current roster)

Maurice Morris? Doug Chapman? Yeah ok....

This is easily a deal in the Vikings favor...Bennett is their 3rd best RB....I'll take Smith and Wiliams over him any day.

The Cards aren't that dumb to trade their best WR tho.

He might be their 3rd best RB, although you'd have a hard time convincing me Williams is better (but try to do so...please). But does that mean he can't play?

My point is simple. If a RB puts up over 1000 yd in a season, this shows me he has proven he can be a 1000 yd RB. I'm really not sure how much simpler that can be. And it's not like he chugged out 62 yards a game with 27 carries per game. He averaged over 5 yards per carry when he did it.

But that was just a fluke right and Boldin's rookie season was just for starters. Oh wait, he didn't come close to those numbers his 2nd year. And why? Because he was injured. And Bennett's the one that carries the "can't stay healthy" tag?

Hilarious.

The numbers are actually quite simple really.

You want injury stats? OK...

Bennett played in 75% of the Vikings games in his career.
Boldin 81%.

Advantage: Boldin

You want career per game stats? OK...

Bennett - 56.3 rushing yards per game
Boldin - 76.9 receiving yards per game.

Advantage: Boldin...hell if you add Bennett's recieving totals per game to that he still doesnt equal Boldin..

Ages...

Bennett - 26
Boldin - 24

Advantage: Boldin

I'll throw this one in as a kicker :)

Total TDs for their careers...

Bennett - 12 on 686 touches.
Boldin - 9 on 177 touches(including his PRs as touches)

----------------

Got another question though...dont know if your a baseball buff but...since you said because Bennett ran for 1000 that makes him a 1000 yard RB...does that mean that Brady Anderson is a 50 HR guy because he hit 50 HRs one season in his career? :heh:

Obviously you think Boldin is a 1200 yd WR based off of one season. What's the difference?

Boldin went from averaging 1 TD every other game in his rookie season to 1 TD in 10 games his 2nd year. That's improvement?

I think he's a 1200 yard receiver...you want to know why? LOOK AT THE NUMBERS. DO THE PROJECTIONS. HE IS A 1200 YARD WR.

TD and catches totals DO tend to go down when you arent playing at 100%, just a hunch...

Boldin's rookie season - 86 yards per game - well over 1200 yards
Boldin's 2nd season - 62 yards per game - well under 1200 yards

Exactly what projections are you referring to?

And spare me the "when you're not 100%" BS. Would you sit back and say "Well, he's got a point" if I came out with that for a reason for Bennett not producing as much?

More projections: Bennett's career YPC is 4.6. To reach 1000, he'd need 217 carries per season. That's 13 carries per game. You think that'd be improbable?

I've already done the math once, however I'll do it again for you...

2003 - 1377

2004 - 10 games for 623 yards = 62.3 YPG = Projected over a full season 996.8 total yards.

1377 + 998.6 / 32(2 full seasons) = 74.2375 YPG

74.2375 x 16 = 1187.8(forgive me for stretching it by 12.2 yards) per season projections so far.

Yes, in fact, I would. However you havent brought up his lack of reps in your debate. You just said, boom he's a 1000 yard guy because he's been able to do it in 25% of his seasons in his career.

Couldn't tell ya, he hasnt proven he can stay healthy enough to even carry the ball 13 times a game. Unless 1/4 is proven...

Fair enough. So using that same formula, that would put Bennett around 880ish (I'm guessing) per season. Couple that with a 2nd round pick and this would be "highway robbery" for Minnesota?

857.5 for Bennett

Given the depth the Vikes have at RB, the fact they could replace Bennett's production(or lack there of) with 3 guys and only have to give up a 2nd for a 1175+ yrd WR, yea highway robbery.

I think Larry Fitzgerald has something to say in the offence as well....Bolding wont be the only target anymore....they need to split the catches....with warner throwing they can both put up great numbers.....i doubt both get 1200 tho...
