Possible NBC Jags/Texans Flex game on Week 17??

Someone on the other board started this same thread, and I asked Chronicle Sports Media Blogger David Barron about the chances. It's not totally impossible!

I see that the final flex game for NBC is Jets/Chiefs. Uh, that's a garbage game. Is there ANY chance they might roll with Texans/Jags? I assume FOX would protect Cowboys/Redskins that week... Can you put in a call to NBC for us Texans fans who got such a good taste of the national coverage atmosphere last night?

There are no protected games the final weekend, but the Cowboys have hit their maximum number of appearances, so that game won't be changed. The league certainly will want a game in prime time with playoff implications, so if the Texans-Jaguars game fills the bill, it could happen.

I'm afraid they might go Packers/Lions instead, but you never know!
 
ESPN will think that Mario's stats from Denver are from all this year and call him a bust again. :bat:
 
I still hope this happens, but with the Texans being eliminated from the playoffs, I'm not so sure. I'd say do it of course, however!

Carolina/Tampa - no
Cincy/Miami - no
Dallas/Washington - Dallas has hit primetime limit
Detroit/Green Bay - Detroit has fallen off, so maybe not, but it could be Favre's final regular season home game
Saints/Chicago - no
Pittsburgh/Baltimore - no
Seattle/Atlanta - no
Niners/Cleveland - no
Tennessee/Indy - Indy at primetime limit
Minnesota/Denver - no
San Diego/Oakland - no
St. Louis/Arizona - no
KC/Jets - no
Jacksonville/Houston - only other game to have 2 teams with winning records, provided the Texans beat Indy

Note about primetime limit. I thought there was an NFL rule that teams could only be on primetime up to 5 times a season. That said, the Patriots will have their 6th primetime game Saturday the 29th.
 
Unfortunately, I think they'd go GB/DET before they'd pick us. Favre's just too much of a media darling and more importantly - the Pack have tons of fans all over the nation just like Jessica Simpson's team.
 
Well, it would be great for me if we were at night. We have tickets to the Alamo Bowl on that Sat. night and plan to stay over in San Antonio that night. Right now we are planning on getting up early and driving straight into the game. Having the night game would mean not having to rush home in the morning. I'm sure that NBC will take this into account.
 
Don't get me wrong, I would love to see this happen, but knowing how Houston never gets any kind of respect with most of the sports newscasters and magazines, I just don't see it happening. Maybe a possibility if we beat the Colts... but that's going to be a tough objective to complete this weekend.

While I would love to have another night game/tailgate, I can't see how this would happen.

1.) No one watches the Jags...they can't even sell out their stadium. Uhhhhh...can you say tarps? Who cares about their record right now.

2.) No one cares about the Texans...except for us.

Based on these 2 simple items...I don't think we will be seeing a flex game (Although I admit if it does happen, it would kick a$$).

NFL Flexible Scheduling 101

Begins Sunday of Week 11
In effect during Weeks 11-17
Only Sunday afternoon games are subject to being moved into the Sunday night window.
The game that has been tentatively scheduled for Sunday night during flex weeks will be listed at 8:15 p.m. ET.
The majority of games on Sundays will be listed at 1:00 p.m. ET during flex weeks except for games played in Pacific or Mountain Time zones which will be listed at 4:05 or 4:15 p.m. ET.
No impact on Thursday, Saturday or Monday night games.
The NFL will decide (after consultation with CBS, FOX, NBC) and announce as early as possible the game being played at 8:15 p.m. ET. The announcement will come no later than 12 days prior to the game. The NFL may also announce games moving to 4:05 p.m. ET and 4:15 p.m. ET.
Week 17 start time changes could be decided on 6 days notice to ensure a game with playoff implications.
The NBC Sunday night time slot in "flex" weeks will list the game that has been tentatively scheduled for Sunday night.
Fans and ticket holders must be aware that NFL games in flex weeks are subject to change 12 days in advance (6 days in Week 17) and should plan accordingly.
NFL schedules all games.
Teams will be informed as soon as they are no longer under consideration or eligible for a move to Sunday night.
 
Here's this guy's point of view:

Rest assured, the game currently penciled in for the Sunday, Dec. 30, prime-time telecast — Kansas City at N.Y. Jets — will not be the game. Another game will be moved to that slot.

Of the other 15 games in Week 17, only two cannot be moved to NBC: New England at N.Y. Giants, which is set for Saturday, Dec. 29, on the NFL Network, and Dallas at Washington, which can’t be shown because the Cowboys already have the maximum of six prime-time appearances. Unlike the other six weeks of flex schedule, CBS and Fox are not allowed to “protect” games from the prime-time slot.

The best bet for Sunday night is Tennessee at Indianapolis, particularly if the Titans are still in the AFC wild-card chase. Detroit at Green Bay is a possibility, since the Packers are battling Cowboys for home field throughout the conference playoffs, and Minnesota at Denver likely will be considered, although the Broncos are now out of postseason.

One bonus for NFL fans: Both networks will have doubleheaders in Week 17, so, including the NBC games, most homes will have five games available on Dec. 30. There is no Monday night game in Week 17 — the regular season ends after the Sunday night game.

It should be in Houston.

Little risk of weather issues for travel, easy to travel here, and we are hospitable and throw a nice tailgate.

That would be nice if it happens. I hope it does happen, but it looks like Indy vs. Tenn will get it. Damn, maybe next year.

1. It's a heated rivalry, and the teams hate each other about as much as a bunch of grown millionaires possibly can.
2. It may affect Jacksonville's playoff positioning.
3. A chance for the country to see one of the NFL's brightest young defensive stars - Mario Williams.
4. It's between two teams who battle it out in a division that the entire media agrees is the best division in football.
5. The place will be packed (hopefully BEFORE kickoff) and jacked up for the first and only 'true' national TV game of the season.
6. NBC can make a billion dollars selling advertising to Kool-Aid when our Battle Red team takes the field.

Okay, can anyone explain how this game could effect Jacksonville's positioning for the playoffs??? What needs to happen with the various teams this weekend?

I think Detroit-Green Bay is just a market thing but not necessarily a good game.

But why Texans-Jags over Indy-Titans, for example? (Other than our disgust for those teams).
 
They will probably Favre instead of the Jags and Texans. However, if they were smart because it would add more intrigue for the final playoff spot. If we beat Jacksonville then Tennessee could get in if they beat the Colts earlier that they. Depending of what happens between the Tacks and Colts, Jacksonville will have to play us with all their starters. Plus, it could be a good FU, to all those people who snubbed Mario. :twocents:
 
I think if we beat Indy next Sunday (or keep it really close), we get it. We lose to Indy, I don't see us having any chance.

I know there's a lot of other factors, but I think that's 90% of it right there.
 
Looks like it will be the Colts/ Titans next week in prime time

The Tennessee Titans won and the Cleveland Browns lost today, meaning the Titans' playoff scenario is simple: Beat the Colts Week 17, and you're in the postseason.

With that in mind, the NFL has moved the Colts-Titans game to the NBC prime time slot a week from today. It should be a rare Week 17 game that's actually meaningful, at least to the Titans.
