This is clearly Texan related. Hopefully it won't disappear like most of them do. Which position do we most need to fill in the 1st round?

This is clearly a draft thread.
Who's still on the board?
Re: Position to fill first in draft?
Draft thread?
1. Parker
2. TJ Clemmings
3. Dupree
4. Maxx Williams
1st round should always be BPA ... always.
However, I see so-called experts thinking it will be a CB, and that is fine with me.
could you elaborate?Draft thread?
1. Parker
2. TJ Clemmons
3. Dupree
4. Maxx Williams
Obviously BPA in the first round. However, outside of being boring with that answer, I really want them to go OT/OG and build the line the way Dallas has done with their O-line.
could you elaborate?
I'm not a draftnik so I have no idea what position/college are associated with those names.
From my knothole, CB (assuming either J-Jo or KJ are gone), then ILB or O-line, then WR (with size and speed). I wouldn't mind a stud RB either.
I really thought Bouye and Morris looked good. I'm more concerned with the safety position.
Now is there someone this year worthy of consideration?
Landon Collins. Bama.
I think he could go in the top 10.

S and ILB jump to mind.
Who's this years CJ Mosely?
Draft thread?
1. Parker WR, Louisville
2. TJ Clemmons OT, Pitt
3. Dupree DE/OLB, Kentucky
4. Maxx Williams TE, Minnesota
Aren't Collins and Holliman both in the box SS types?
I want a fast rangy FS type... thinking Prewitt might be the answer
Benardrick McKinney, Miss State.
I'll second this. Good size & speed. Three down player who can drop back into coverage or rush the QB. Mississippi State is a member of the Southeastern Conference, so played against quality competition.Benardrick McKinney, Miss State.
I'll be the one that says nah. Doesn't read and react well to play action, seems lost in coverage and is not a great in the open field. Doesn't disengage fast enough when taking on blocks. Two down thumper player IMO.I'll second this. Good size & speed. Three down player who can drop back into coverage or rush the QB. We might be able to go BPA 2016 but not this next one. Actually, my guy could easily be BPA so here we go and why. This is clearly Texan related. Hopefully it won't disappear like most of them do. Which position do we most need to fill in the 1st round?
#16 WR Devante Parker had highlight plays almost every game. He and Mariota the only two projected first rounders who lived up to billing in Bowl games. We had two contributing WRs and you know who was one of them and you can imagine what his thread will look like a year from now. Even if AJ is back would you not want your new shiny QB to have another play maker to throw to? 2014 43/855 19.9 5 TDs 5 games reg and 1 bowl. Man if he had been healthy all season.
I am with you 1000 fold on Parker. I believe he's the best WR in this class and would be a steal at 16. My main hesitation though is on how much he's looked on to contribute, at least in year one.
One of the hang-ups in DeVier Posey seeing any action was that he wasn't OB's vision of a slot receiver. This point became evident when Posey was suited up in week 15 as AJ's concussion opened up an outside spot. Now, I'm not comparing Parker and Posey in terms of overall ability, I think Parker is a superior talent, but just in terms of both of them being better suited as an X or Z. And if drafted, in what would be the first round, OB would surely look to fit Parker into as many situations as he can. I'm just not so sure that if they bring back AJ to pair up with DHop for at least one more year they look to take a guy in the first that may be sitting effectively third on the depth chart for the better part of his first season.

I understand ya, but I would hope he can take the snaps that DJ has been getting... and dropping

OR
use Posey at the #2 spot - with Hopkins at #1 and A.J. in the slot.
that lineup has to be better than having that shrimp Demaris Johnson in the slot.
Let's see...
The Texans defense was dominant at the end of the season, the offensive line tied with New England for fourth fewest sacks in the league, and they have a great running back and two very good wide receivers.
The Texans were one good quarterback away from making the playoffs this year, and they were good enough everywhere else to possibly make a nice playoff run. Also, except for a very few years with good Schaub, the Texans have always been weak at quarterback.
So...
How about a quarterback?
Drafting a QB is looking long term and not short term. At best, might challenge for a starting spot in 2016, but more likely not until 2017.
Its a draft not a magic show. They can't just pull one out of a hat.![]()

Nothing is absolute, but OB has stated publicly that his coaching philosophy is not to start rookie QB's. OB's offense is complex and requires the QB to not just pick up on the mental aspects of quarterbacking his offense, but to also learn the responsibilities of blocking assignments for the Oline. He makes these calls at the line, as well. The natural progression of the learning curve would have the young QB earn the backup position his second year before challenging for the starting spot his third.Carr, Bortles, Bridgewater, etc. say that isn't near as absolute as you make it.
When OB evaluates and grades his QB's over the next couple weeks, he may have to re-evaluate the decision he made going into this past season. But I think the game plan is for Mallet to be the guy. If this works out, then making a decision on Savage, and whether to draft another QB, may be postponed until 2016.If the solution to a chronic problem is long term, then by all means put if off a couple more years.
Nope, it doesn't sound any better when I put it that way.

Magic? The Texans had one of the worst quarterback situations in the league the past couple of years, and it might not be any better next year. Yet somehow last year and this year there isn't a quarterback in the draft who could help the team. Takes more message board sleight-of-hand to conjure up that bit of "logic" than drafting a good quarterback, difficult and magical as that is.
==================================
Even the "low risk" approach is magical. Take the once in a generation, guaranteed impact player 1/1. Poof! The first pick in the draft is gone into thin air.
And if there is only a Bortles and he's out of our reach do we waste our first pick reaching for a guy? This may actually be the worst QB class in years.
