The guys on 610 feel Eric Bieniemy is the best guy for the job. There was a time when they all liked someone else. But now that the other teams are out of the race & we’re left with what we’re left with they think Bieniemy is the best candidate left.

On this board I get the feeling that many believe the Texans will only hire Bieniemy because they think that’s what Watson wants. That’s what I think.

So that’s all this poll is about. How many of you think the Texans will hire Bieniemy (if they hire Bieniemy) because he’s the best of their list of candidates.

How many of you think the Texans will hire Bieniemy (if they hire Bieniemy) because Watson wants Bieniemy?

It would be the only reason. For some reason he has not interviewed well. What DW4 wants DW4 gets. Without seeing his interview tapes its all speculation.
That's very true. And when the Lions turn him down and say he didn't interview well. Then you know something is going on. And didn't the Jets (who should want an offensive coach) decline to interview him? I think so. Not positive however.

We have 4 choices.

1- Trade Watson somehow and hire anyone who the staff feel is right.

2- Hire who the staff like and tell Watson play or sit. No trade.

3- Hire who Watson wants. And hope he feels better.

4- Hire whoever because of the rumors that Watson wants traded no matter who we hire.

I think he is the best for the job.

EB gets this bad rep because he is attached to Reid, but he mentored MJD in college, helped Taylor and Peterson dominate in Minnesota, and has helped keep KC's rushing attack near the top of the league for quite some time. I understand the caution surrounding him, but his history of creating effective rushing attacks is well documented and completely separate from Reid. Add in whatever he has learned and co-designed through the years with Reid and you can see how people are excited about him.

As for not being hired after a lot of interviews, it is what it is. Tony Dungy faced similar concerns and phrases like "did not interview well". Sometimes it's not about race, sometimes it is. Sometimes it's about the emotion and fit. EB is definitely qualified and many smart winning football people feel he is going to be great. I think he's worth the gamble. I don't think the interview concerns are warranted. JMO

I don't know about you but I get excited thinking about having an effective offensive line and rushing attack to go along with our top 5 QB. I honestly think having some of Kelly's playbook coupled with EB would be deadly. It would take time to make work and gel, but those boys do some things well.

As for his issues back in the late 80s and early 90s as a student, I am not going to hold that against him. Funny seeing some posters complain we don't take guys with rap sheets on the team but are crucifying a potential head coach over the same issues, which happened decades ago. I think having someone like EB in the locker room and in the decision-making process would actually help push the door open for players with a history of questionable things. I would think some posters would be in favor of that.

All I know is that the Texans have known they’ve needed a HC since October. 5, 6 other teams have had HC openings since and all have been filled, and the Texans are still without a HC.

Normally that would suggest their guy is still playing. But nothing ever seems to be normal about the Texans.

Personally, I’ll be a little surprised if it is Bieniemy, even this late into it, because of his past off-field issues and the Pastor’s influence regarding that. I also think now, that they are placating to Watson, but kinda forced to do so because of their own doing. So that would be the not normal part of why they’re still without.

Still don’t know how much I believe of the story of them almost having the Pittsburgh guy (can’t recall his name) wrapped up and the Pastor convincing them to get on a plane to go get Caserio, but that’s when things seemed to take a real turn south with regards to Watson.

If Bieniemy is the hire, I don’t know if I’ll ever believe that was their guy from the start. Whether or not he was, with all the other teams filling their positions, we’re left with what we’re left with. At this point, the longer we go without, the more it points to Bieniemy. If he’s not the guy, Frazier, or whoever else is still a legit candidate, should be named in the next day or two. I guess we’ll see real soon.

I really don't know what to think and if it was an option, I would vote none of the above. I recall for years, everyone said Zimmer should be a HC, but didn't interview well. That he was brutally honest telling owners and GMs about their teams. It took Zimmer 20 years to get his first opportunity.

At this point. It just might be last man standing. I know there are only 32 HC opportunities, but if I was Bienemy I would not take this Texans' job. It's a no-win situation.

So do I. But when did Bieniemy put those things together? He walked in to a ready made juggernaut.

it would have been nice to see him follow Nagy or Pederson as the OC, at least help establish an offense somewhere.

Now we’re going to be questioning if it’s talent or coaching that this isn’t working, or that isn’t working, which is a big reason we’re in the situation we’re in now.

We brought 5 tackles into camp in 2018 & still “had” to trade two 1sts to get a LT. Oh, maybe it’s the coaching.

I read that he and Bieniemy had staffs and the latter was starting to lose some to other teams. Again it could be Frazier having the job and moving for a defensive guy in Chase Young.
Then maybe they should start hiring his staff.

I don't think that they'd hire EB under normal circumstances because of his personality -- he doesn't seem like he'd get along w/ Easterby at all. So I'd say that if they hire him, that it's because it's what Watson wants (assuming that is the case). That said, I also think that EB is the best candidate on their list. I don't expect EB to be the hire though. But if they do, I think that the Watson situation will be turned around. I think he'd be a bull in the china shop standing up for his players and he'd keep Easterby in check. I think Watson would sense that and want back in.

If they hire him I think it would be a case of killing two birds with one stone. They may not think he’s the best candidate but he’s close enough that they can make it work and it might smooth Watson’s ruffled feathers.

I just don’t see this so called great offensive plan everyone is talking about. Sure it’s been good the last two seasons but before that KC had the same record we did till they got Mahomes and they had a far better QB in Smith than anything we had pre-Watson. Even after getting Mahomes their run game and defense both were sad most of the season. The defense isn’t on EB and the run game has massively improved but the talent has as well.

I just don’t know that EB has got the chops to make chicken salad here but then again I don’t know for sure anyone other than BB, Tomlin or Harbaugh do so hey EB might as well be the one to try it.

If Bieniemy knows it was mostly Andy Reid, he realizes there is strong possibility he will not be able to turn this team around. He might get a year before fans are back in O'Brien destruction mode and from this MB we all know that might be mid season if not sooner. Is EB willing to throw dice that impact his future as a HC on this Houston situation? Sure he has an ego. We all do. But does he risk his future on a throw or remain OC for a team in SB for consecutive years and then choose a better landing place to begin his career as head coach?

I said days after OB was fired that he would be the next HC based upon the information that was relayed from the "search committee" .... He wasn't just their top candidate , he was their only candidate.

I don't know if he is "the best candidate or not" I think that's debatable .... Saleh was my personal favorite , I also like Daboll a lot but if Bieniemy can satisfy Watson , that's the right move .... the QB carousel sucks.

I like the KC offense (who doesn't?) .... if he can implement something like that here then I'm happy ....

Expectations are fairly low for next season due to lack of draft picks and cap space .... It would have to be a complete and total disaster for most fans to go into destruction mode.

Be prepared for the worst and hope for the best. What's more likely Cuck gets the Chiefs EB or the Buffs EB? DW4 gets what DW4 wants.

Are Mahomes/Hill/Kelce coming with EB?

My tarot cards and crystal ball tell me....

Watson continues to go to bat to get EB the gig.
Media pressure for Houston to make a minority hire coupled with Watson's continued push makes the decision for EB a sure thing.
Once EB is signed, Watson continues to force his trade until successful.
Texans retain OC Tim Kelly.
Miserable offense is blamed on EB's lack of play calling experience, blamed on Tim Kelly lack of creativity, blamed on whoever the new QB is.
Culture of losing and public disagreement between McNair/Easterby and EB cause free agents to avoid Houston like the plague.

It's a fun offense to watch, that's for sure. But who is the Texans' Tyreek Hill? The Travis Kelce? The Edwards-Helaire? The Hardman? Watson can replicate what Mahomes does, I'm pretty sure.

I'm curious, does anyone have a chart on Mahomes' passing attempts against the Bills? How far he threw the ball?

Yep, 10 interviews and he cant get a HC job. But DW4 says he wants him and presto EB's hired. Coincidence? not a chance.
If Esterbe was fired as he should have been, this wouldn't even be an issue. Its Esterbe basically running the franchise. Remember this quote, too many people walking around here like they got power? Remember the search firm, then Esterbe and Cal hops on a plane and goes and get NC? They never even interviewed Robert Saleh, yet they interview McCown and even Tim Kelly?

Unfortunately Easterby had the power. It wasn't like he was running around acting like he had the power. Caserio now has the power.

Cuck did what his dad taught him to do when looking to hire a HC. (Use Porn Fairy) Dungy set Cuck straight and told him ultimately he was going to have to make his own decision. So he went back to the guy he wanted all along (NC) and paid him top 3 $$$$ to get him.

You know how important religion is to the McNair's. They were never going to hire a Muslim. No need to waste time with an interview. BTW, Saleh was my #1 choice for HC.

By Texans logic, since the Chiefs are the best team in football right now, they should loot their front office and coaching staffs for anyone nominally connected to winning. Kind of like being Broncos East in the 2000s, or Patriots West in the 2010s. I'm sure that will work this time around.

How does Caserio have the power when Esterbunny suggested he interview Josh McCown for head coach? This is the Jack Esterbunny show. Follow the bread crumbs

Pancakes stated Esterbunny suggested the interview to Caserio. Why? Don't know. Why the team tweeted it out when McCown is under contract until the league year ends. They didn't even have to make this know.
Yep. And McClain is also claiming that Easterby will probably take over Jamey Rootes' job when he leaves the organization later this year.

Well, McCown wasn't hired to be the 3rd string quarterback. When he was brought in, Easterby was the interim GM.

Whoever gets the HC job, their power is going to be very limited. If that person is unwilling to surrender control of who he hires as his staff, this probably isn't the job for them.

Can’t cast my vote because Bieniemy is not the best or only head coaching candidate and anybody with the inside to truly know Watson wouldn’t say, case closed.

I'd really like to see what these FO execs are seeing whey they say EB "interviews bad".

Now I'm just a lowly fan, but when I've seen his public interviews, I like the dude. Someone said he is an offensive version of Mike Tomlin. I'd love to have Tomlin as a HC, so that was a ringing endorsement for me.

Being a HC is more than just Xs & Os. Leader of men, inspiring guys to dig deeper and play harder, that's the kind of dude we need infusing a fresh attitude with this franchise.

Otherwise, it's going to be the same old chumpass Texans if they just hire someone that makes them feel good in an interview.

Not saying it isn't true, but McClain is wrong at least 50% of the time. I hold no stock in whatever these dudes say at this point. The chips will fall wherever they do.

That's a good reason for a guy like Bienemy to not take the job. I met that dude a long time ago and he's nobody's puppet. I like Frazier, but he's more in line with letting Esterbunny be all in his meeting and etc. Its amazing nobody can describe what Esterbunny actually do, but he's important. 🤔
