I like the pick. I believe he will make an immediate impact on the DL.

i pray hes not gonna be a bust like you know who... but atleast this guys works in pract. unlike you know who... lol
i do and dont. it's not a bad pick, but i wont call it a great one. a trade down would've been the only deal i really would've cheered as there werent any top 10 prospects available at the 10 spot and from all reports several teams were attempting to trade with houston. we've drafted defensive line in FOUR consecutive years now (babin, travis johnson, mario williams, amobi okoye) and spent big money last year also on anthony weaver. before the draft and definitely now, we have to make the most of what we have on that line ... kubiak has to claim these guys and build them, if they fail it's because coaching failed.
that being said, okoye has winner written all over him. what hasnt this kid excelled above and beyond at? that kind of brains and athleticism is extremely rare and is definitely something kubiak covets more than anything else. there's little doubt that okoye will make an immediate impact. one thing i worry about was mentioned on the NFL network - what's this kid going to look like when his body matures? 20-50lbs happens to almost every football player at okoye's age and is why many college players change positions between highschool and the end of college. not the best possible scenario, but far from being a bad pick.
That would be amazing. He would be a beast!Don't forget that as he continues to gain weight, he's also going to be growing taller. He's 6'-2" and weighs around 290-300lbs. right now. He'll continue to grow into his body. Who know's, four years from now, he could be close to 6'-4" with an extra 20lbs. of muscle at 310-315! I believe that's why the Texans chose him as BPA. They could have traded back but they got what they were looking for.
I don't know who.

Oh come on!
If he's talking about Travis Johnson, I'd be inclined to agree. If he's talking about Mario Williams, then I wouldn't.
There's been a few guys that have been called busts around here.

I agree. The Travis Johnson pick is a bust. Mario Williams isn't. Mario played with an injured foot all season.
I think we need to trade him actually. Him or Babin. We have a lot of players for our D-Line. It provides depth, but at least one can be dumped or traded.I'll give TJ one last year. If he doesn't produce, then I will call him a bust.
Since offseason began, I have been a broken record crying out for the ability to stop the run. It's part two of my diatribe on how to win next year. Part one was being able to run the ball. Hopefully, the Green signing will fix that. As much as I wanted Kalil, AP, and Landry, I really like this pick. The Texans needed a DT more than we want to believe...

I'll give Babin one more year. Okoye will not only help Mario out but he will also help out the entire DL. DeMeco should be happy as well. If Babin doesn't produce, then it's time to part ways.

You're right. I didnt realize that the Texans allowed 5 yards per rush last season. Whoa.
I think that somethings are being overlooked .
1. I think the way the draft evolved ... that moving back from 8 to 10 was'nt a big thing because AD , Landry , and Levi Brown were all gone .
2. Okoye was the best player on the board at that point .... Okoye also has a high ceiling because of his age . Okoye will be 20 and I think Mario is 22.
we're definitely going to be one of the youngest defenses (if not the youngest) ... hell just look at the line. mario 21, okoye 19, babin 26, TJ 25, weaver 26. then you've got dunta 25, brown 24, earl 25, faggins 27, ryans 22, orr 25, and old man greenwood 28. we need to upgrade talent at linebacker and free safety, but there's plenty youth and athleticism available to be coached. we need to start working this direction on offense now.
I apologize but I voted no to this poll by accident I wanted to do yes. Is there a way we can correct the poll or something? Just went to fast and clicked and it was over in a split second.

i'll vote yes for ya. i'm on the fence so i wasnt going to vote.
Sorry man, you can't. Once you pick and click, you're stuck.
That DL looks good like that on paper, and I can't wait to see what it will look like on the field. The Texans are finally starting to build their identity and it's through Defense.![]()
Trade both as far as I'm concerned. TJ barely made the team last year and is definetly a bust.I think we need to trade him actually. Him or Babin. We have a lot of players for our D-Line. It provides depth, but at least one can be dumped or traded.
i think that's my hangup too frog. i'm having travis johnson flashbacks.
IMO there wasnt a top 10 (or even top 15) talent available at the 10 spot. with that, and from the reports of multiple trade down possibilities, i wouldnt have been in love with any pick we made. levi brown, laron landry, and adrian peterson were gone ... that should've been the end of our 10 spot.
i think okoye is a fascinating prospect and if we have the great coaching that i assume, he'll turn into sapp or better. nothing away from the kid, but this was such a weak draft that i think that we ended up in no-man's land with our choices.
I LOVE this pick! I would've traded down for anyone but Peterson or Okoye. I'm still pissed that Minnesota took Peterson. What worse place could he have gone (except for maybe Cleveland) that would've destroyed his career? He's going to tank there - that team sucks.
GO OKOYE!
Thats what was in my head. This might sound crazy but I thought there was more value in the 20s then where we picked. Again, we will never know, because it takes 2 to make a deal. I think this kid is a great story, has all the tools and I have no problem with it. It just isn't exactly a pick that makes me fired up. Solid is a good word. Hopefully the combo of him and others lifts a whole unit. Again, these comments aren't meant to be negatives. The player, himself, is pure quality....I'm just torn with D-line again.
