Playoffs: Rams at Falcons

GameCenter: Preview (3:30 p.m. CT, CBS)

Good games today and you guys can consider this a game thread for both games. I'll probably watch the games here from my office as usual. Looking forward to both of them. The Rams vs the Vicks should be good too. Can't wait till we can see the Texans on the National stage. I think Pittsburgh wins this one outright.

@ the office myself, no tele but do have am. for those able to watch keep one eye on LaMont Jorden to see if y'all think the Texans should pursue him as a F/A. otherwise go Big Ben & Steven Jackson :jumpbanan

You're probably right Vinny, the PITTS might take this one, BUT, I will be yelling my silly head off for the JETS!!

GOOOOO JETS!!

And ya'll thought Randy Moss was offensive last week?

Did anyone checkout that cartoon skit on NFL Today?

They run the kind of offense so many of the guys around here seem to hate.

That's very true, and I think it's funny as all heck.

Randy will be nice, he's at home!!

Just watching those jerks run on the field made my blood boil! Jets got the ball first, hope they score NOW!!

According to the Steelers web site, all 3 of the starting downline in their
3-4 are < 300 ibs. Even Chris Hoke, the NT, who's listed @ 296 lb. When you
consider some of the humongous nose tackles one's use to seeing, 296
is really smallish. Definitely works for them, though.

That was a classic rookie pass by Rothlisberger. I think he had the corner. I didn't see a defender over the top.

Both CB's were playing over the top and Reggie broke underneath them

FUUUUUUUUUUMBLE

I really should start putting money on these games

2 weeks in a row I would have cashed in on the underdog Jets.

Quadzilla?

Although the term "quadriceps" technically may refer to any four-headed muscle, it usually refers to and is synonymous with the quadriceps muscle of the thigh, the large muscle that comes down the femur (the bone of the upper leg), goes over the patella (the kneecap) and anchors into the top of the tibia (the big bone in the lower leg). The function of the quadriceps is to extend (to straighten out) the leg.

I want to see how the Steelers attack the Jets cover 2 base defense.

The Jets seem to own Roethlisberger. In 2 games this year: 1 TD, 4 INT and 53% completion percentage. Apparently the way to beat the Jets is to run the ball and hope they miss field goals. :slap:

Vick had the seperation on that run, he could have ran the entire way for a TD.

I guess he got winded or thought the LB was closer than he was.

:BananaWav

i dont think the rams or falcons want to play tough defense. this will probably be a high scoring game.

i hope MEangelo hall and vick loose.

edit. dunn is wearing bling bling under his pads....

I don't know if anyone else has noticed but MeAngelo has launched torpedo shots to the knees of Faulk twice and now on Jackson when he was engaged with another tackler. The Rams OLs are getting pissed. Looks pretty dirty on the field right now.

ive noticed that too....from the first play of the game where he took faulks legs out from under him at the sideline. he came flying in. doesnt seem to be a solid tackler who wraps up like dunta. someone out to knock some sense into him and vick before they get too cocky about their game.

What is this? An Atlants Falcon hate thread? They're doing their thing out there Go Falcons! and St. Louis wont be the one to "knock some since into DeAngelo and Vick"

P.S. Whats the deal with the MeAngelo hall sarcasm?

i dont like the falcons because of vick. he didnt want to be drafted by houston and he complained about his first preseason game because they blitzed and they "knew he wouldnt run." i think hes a great athlete, but so is lance armstrong.

as for MEangelo hall? the ME should give it away.....

i dont understand how you dont understand it.

MEangelo hall was a nickname for him in college from what i hear. its just his attitude that he is so important and worthy of the largest signing bonus in falcons history. nobody likes guys who have a "me first" attitude.

a little is good in terms of goals you set for yourself but you shouldnt put those things in front of your team bringing a championship to your owner and fans...too much cockyness is called arrogance. :twocents:

I dont keep up with college football and wasn't aware of that.

I also don't have a problem with the ME first guys i think its all just a way to bring attention to the team, but it can be taken a step too far.

The Texans didn't even draft in 2001

So all you have to hate him for now is him being upset for being sacked, and no QB gets angry over that :listening

Yeah, i was wondering about that too i didn't think Vick was in our first draft class, but i am normally wrong about history stuff so i didn't bother saying anything.

I want the Texans to use that "wall" on special teams like they (Atlanta) did just a little ago. JJ needs something like that instead of the usual "wedge".

yes you are correct that the texans didnt draft that year, but vick came out early for the reason that he did not want to take the chance of being drafted by an expansion team.

LOL!!!

He came out early because he was the Top College Prospect and easily a top 5 pick.

Vick left Va Tech after his sophmore year in order not to be available in the 2002 expansion Texans draft. He was eligible in 2001, so he declared. And I do believe he went on record as saying he didn't want to play for an expansion team.

Vick said the fear of getting injured weighed heavily into his decision. He cited the problems of former UVa safety Anthony Poindexter, who saw his stock drop after injuring his knee his senior season. That injury cost Poindexter, now with the Baltimore Ravens, millions of dollars.

"I had to look at it from a lot of different aspects. Maybe I would have had an injury that was career-ending," Vick said. "Maybe I would have had an injury that would have hampered me for two or three games and caused my stock to drop.

"A lot of things came into play. I had to think deeply about it. The opportunity presented itself and I have to take advantage of it."

The San Diego Chargers hold the first pick in April's NFL Draft and most NFL people think Vick will be the first player taken. As a result, Vick likely will command a $50 million contract with a $11-to-$15 million in up-front bonuses. Noted agent Leigh Steinberg reportedly told Vick he could get the Hokies' quarterback a $20 million signing bonus. Contrary to reports, Vick hasn't signed with an agent, ending speculation that he had signed with Steinberg.

The Chargers, though, need to decide what to do with current quarterback Ryan Leaf. If the Chargers cut Leaf or trade him, they will still be accountable for nearly $4 million against the salary cap.

But both Bill Polian, the GM of the Indianapolis Colts, and Charley Casserly, the GM of the expansion Houston Texans, told Vick during a teleconference last week that there was a good possibility that the Chargers would trade the pick, leaving Vick in a tenuous state. If Vick is not picked first, then he would not be picked probably until fifth by Atlanta because the three teams in that stretch do not need a quarterback.

I often expect players who want nothing to do with a fracnhise to have a teleconference to help infulence decisions.

Any other reason to hate Vick Left? Keep em comming until you come up with a good one.

Making right call on No. 1 isn't easy

(Scroll down to "Time, not talent the issue")

"Apparently, it wasn't just the money -- (Vick) will command a $50 million contract and an eight-figure signing bonus -- or the fear of injury that prompted his decision, but a fear of the expansion Texans, who will have the first pick in the 2002 draft. After watching Couch get crushed for two seasons in Cleveland, Vick and his advisors came to the conclusion that San Diego, despite the hideous 1-15 record, was a far friendlier place to land. Even a trade to a team like Atlanta, Dallas or Seattle would place Vick in a far better situation than with the first-year Texans a year later, something that Michigan's Drew Henson may discover" (Funny how Henson followed suit and then the irony of how that ends up).

People may be (or may not be) remembering that Casserly visited Vick at VT and tried to talk him into staying in school. As I remember it, that was Casserly's strategy all along - he was trying to influence Vick that even if he was going to be THE top pick, there was still no guarantee of where he would end up because of a likely draft day trade (which happened). In fact as I'm typing this I recall hearing Casserly say something close to those exact words. As if waiting a year for the Texans would have been any better than any 2001 option.

In the end it was the money, the fear of injury, AND the fear of the expansion Texans that made him enter the 2001 draft.
