Players Signed/Released

I said all along that Walker did not have but avg speed at best, but he can catch out of the back field and he was not a dog at picking up the blitz.

And Vinny he was the other player I was looking at hoping he could show something, mainly because the alternative is cook is the back-up FB. And that is never a good thing.

Exactly how much money did they waste?

These fringe guys that teams (all teams) bring in during the offseason are signed to letter contracts with small bonuses and a stipend that typically has the net effect of slightly more than nothing.

But the Woodfin thing is kind of bizarre. I don't think he even suited up for a single practice, did he?? Perhaps making room for another FA? Or just miscounted...76, 77, 78 - Dang, Rachel Weisz looks hot! Where was I? Crap. 1, 2...

Looks like there won't be any competition for Stanley in training camp after all. And I expect there to be a huge outcry from all those that thought Walker must be placed on the active roster because he would be heavily pursued and immediately picked up if placed on the practice squad. I personally was hoping Anderson and Lucas would at least get a chance in camp (I also would like a better option than Cook if we are going to carry to FBs).

If Speluveda would of fallen in day one and the Texans had passed on him, there would of been a few of us pitching hissy fits over that one. The fact that the Steelers scooped him up in the fourth is a prety fair indication that he was precieved as a high end fifteen year guy. Would of been nice.

I think the Texan's did Walker a favor. He now has a chance to catch on with the Bears who were courting him also at the free agent sgining period. The staff must of thought he wouldn't have a fair shot at making the final roster with the compitition that was in camp. Gado and Dayne ain't going anywhere.

As far as Cook is concerned, I keep reading you guys running him out of town on a rail. And I keep think that someone in authority with the Texan's , inspite of all of his warts, likes the guy. Just saying. Brace yourselves.

I'm not sure that I'm buying this whole "the Texans did Walker a favor by cutting him so he could catch one somewhere else" idea. Mainly because there are a lot of players being cut currently as there always are this time of year; and if Walker was as in as much demand as some of us think he is then there would surly be a team willing to cut one more spare to make the room to sign him. Also if Walker isn't good enough to earn a spot on the Texans rsoter (I mean c'mon with all the quality depth we have at the RB spot) what makes some people think that he's good enought to catch on somewhere else?

Well I'm not in the room of course. But they gave the guy a good sniff and honestly didn't believe he would make the roster. I don't know if he will be picked up or not. What I do know is that several gurus had him as one of the best rookie undrafted guys out there. Someone will give the guy a sniff. People will start getting hurt the next few weeks. Someone else will give him a shot. I thought he did prety good for the golden doomers considering the tallnet they feilded last year on the o-line. He knows the system and is hard nosed and can catch the ball. That should be enough for a roster spot.

My point is that if the Teaxans didn't even think he was good enough to possibly make teh practice squad the odds are that he's just not as good as we thought he was coming out of ND.

And I'd be more surprised that Walker signs on with omebody else then if he goes unsigned.

That surprised me to, because we are getting rather long in the tooth at center so we are going to need a youthful transfusion at some point in time there and reportedly some were very surprised that this guy was undrafted.
But in general I didn't realize they'd start cutting players before anybody did any poppin ?
I dunno, maybe some players are released right away because of an early perceived attitude problem or if they show up in poor condidtion ?
As it stands today with no proof of how draft helped us for 2007, I'd draft 2008 as round 1: CB 3:FS 4: center. My assumption is even if Black does not win starter by end of season, Spencer should be back by 2008 at LT.

So much for all those posts about Walker making a splash this year and the tip that he was taken by the Texans because he was one of the top candidates for that third positions spot. I'll assume that Lundy has a better chance of starting for the Texans than Walker now.

Walker might have lost out due to lack of top end speed. NFL Draft Scout said:
COMPARES TO - Chester Taylor, MINN. Like Taylor, Walker needs to be in an offense that won't ask him to be a playmaker, but rather a chain-mover. He is a fine receiver out of the backfield but is not a power back and certainly doesn't have the speed to consistenly take the ball to the house at the next level. Like Taylor and Philidelphia's Correll Buckhalter, he will make a decent living as a blue-collar type rather than showing blue chip pedigree.

That says to me that Chris Taylor and Wali Lundy must be faster - or have more of a "burst" as John Madden would say. If you think about our philosophy, its make one cut, hit the hole hard, and leave the defense behind. Perhaps Walker didn't have that "leave the defense behind" speed....

Or...they thought the move would be waisted because someone would just sign him off the parctice squad anyway. plus if they thought, and I do not know if it's true, if the guy can't block, he can't block. If he can't hit the hole like they like...yeah could be a tallent thingy. I believe it was a numbers thingy.

I think it was a numbers thing and a talent thing. You don't cut a guy this early if you think he has talent. You atleast wait until the pads are on to see what kind of ball player you really are.

I don't think they were totally disgusted with the guy, but I do believe that his talent level played a part in the decision. If he couldn't beat out Wali Lundy...he's no that good...

BTW Wali is probably the next back in line to go....

I agree, I trully believe we end up with green, dayne, gado and taylor at RB

Kubiak said he was working Abate out at FB so Taylor probably wont be filling the specialist FB spot, wich means he makes the RB rotation or he or Lundy is not gonna make it. IMHO I think Lundy gets cut. I just dont see Kubiak carrying 5 running backs.

I truly believe that if CT can get his fumblitis under control, he can be the franchise back we are all looking for. I saw him on "Inside Mini-Camp" on NFLN a few months ago. He definitely has the one cut and go down. I saw him make a couple of beautiful cuts during that show and he was gone gone. The kid seems to have good vision and some serious wheels. Cure his fumblitis and Lundy or Gado is on the bubble.

I saw that show too. Taylor was totally explosive in the play they showed. He outran our LBs who seemed to have angles on him.

Gado and Lundy's only chance may be to make a special teams impact; don't laugh, That's how Terrell Davis made Denver's squad.

I always hounded Tiki Barber about his early career case of Fumblitis of course the past few years i've been eating crow with some of my friends about it. Hope the same happens to Taylor and he becomes that type of back.
