Players have been available for days!

Nighthawk

Rookie
Bruce, maybe Givens, Glover--these are cuts before free agency, aren't they? Meaning the players are signable RIGHT NOW, today. We don't have to wait until Thursday or the next day FA is postponed to. But what are we doing? Who's in town for a look, what offers have been made? Nothing, nobody, none.

I just wish we were a little quicker off the mark, that's all.

If you look around the league, no teams have been signing players that are already available. Everyone's waiting to see if there is a new deal in order to know how to structure the contracts.

Actually a couple have signed, but not enough to warrant a panic that the Texans have not signed any.

Until the Collective Bargaining Agreement is signed, I doubt any does much of anything with Free Agent players.

The pace should pick up now that they know what they have available to spend and over how much time it can be spread. I look for a fairly significant amount of FAs to be signed by team by Sat.-Sun. and then kind of a trickle thing after that.

I'm not really sure what has been allowed and what hasn't in this last week. I'm not sure if Glover has actually signed or agreed to a deal. Someone mentioned that players released outright could be signed anytime. That sounds right, but I think even the players wanted to see what was happening with the CBA first. The teams that have the room to sign now aren't the teams that the best players want to go to. Bentley isn't going to come here over Philadelphia. Now that the CBA is finalized I think we'll see some excitement.

I agree. Everybody (teams and players) were/are waiting in large part to see what was going to happen with the CBA. I believe the Texans won't make a major splash in free agency, but will pick up some decent players that can help this team.
I personally believe that we have the players on staff already to be a .500 team. Our coaching is what killed us last season. Gary Walker had some very interesting comments, which I whole heartly believe, after last season in an interview with 610. He said that Fangio was a horrible coordinator. There were two games when Walker went to Fangio on behalf of the defensive players and expressed what they should do, and when he let them do it, the defence looked very good. Then the next week Fangio would do what he wanted and they looked terrible. He stated that the coordinators (Fangio) is the reason that Capers lost his job. His stood behind Capers and that he was a very good coach, but he just wouldn't interfere with his coordinators because he was too nice of a guy.
I think with a good draft, and a couple of solid free agents to be added to this staff (primarily a middle linebacker, wide receiver, and tight end) this team will be .500 next season.

ESPN Radio sportscenter update reported yesterday that Glover had signed with the Rams. He was released by Dallas just a few days ago. Free agency has not started yet so I was wondering how he could already have signed with a new team?

If a player is released he can sign immediately with a team. If his contract expired then he has to wait until the free agent period starts. Glover was released by the Cowboys.

Okay, that was the only thing I could think of but I wasn't sure if I was right or not. Thanks for the explanation.

You are at least ahead of the lead football writer for the chronicle. Per chron.com

"Meanwhile, the Texans are one of many teams interested in former St. Louis receiver Isaac Bruce, who was waived by the Rams when he declined to take a pay cut.

Although the Rams are hoping to re-sign Bruce, 33, he's going to test the market once the NFL allows free agency"

I thought I heard on the radio that Bruce was scheduled to talk with Texans Monday 6th. I did not hear anything since so I guess I heard incorrectly or it didn't happen.

If the only FA the Texans get this year is Putzier, because I think that a solid addition like Putzier would greatly benefit the Texans, then I'll be happy. If they can get someone like J. Peterson, it would be icing on the cake.
