Pittsburgh at New England

Steelers TE coach, James Daniel, is being investigated for assaulting a Patriots fan last night. Apparently he kicked and verbally accosted a fan on his way to the locker room at halftime last night. When the Steelers exited the locker room after half, Daniel was detained and questioned by authorities about the incident.

Nope, it was clearly stated, "Because it was not a complete system failure, New England’s coaches were not required to shut down their headsets"

Steelers coaches were unable to communicate through headsets either to other coaches on sideline or up to the booth.

He's not really a NT. In a 34 front he should probably be a 5 tech, and in a 43 front he should be a 3 tech. Think Warren Sapp (position, not talent). Brown is an interior pass rusher, but he's not a guy you should be putting head up on the Center to take a double team.
 
You guys do realize though that this is the New England Patriots that we're talking about and therefore they're most likely cheating in some fashion because..... Patriots..... Belichick...... Cheaters. etcetera, etcetera.....

Fair enough. The Pats also reported difficulties with the headsets and the NFL already released a statement clearing the Pats of any wrongdoing. This just seems like conspiracy theory fodder to me.

DeCastro was moving him all over the field last night. I'm still a bit raw that we came out of that draft with Mercilus instead of him.

Bill O'Brien, our head coach, just said today during a press conference that he experiences headset issues AT EVERY GAME.

Brian Billick was on NFLN this morning and said he experienced headset issues all the time, regardless of stadium. He said once, at Baltimore's stadium, he had the signal come in from a pizza delivery boy.

I get the rush to judgment, but there is a certain point where it is pure conjecture and assumptions. But, the reality is technology is far from perfect, and there is a clear body of evidence that headset equipment problems are regular occurrences around the league.

Former Bills & Redskins Coach Steve Jackson: Headsets Always Went Out In New England During Hurry Up Offense

Former NFL player and NFL coach Steve Jackson talked with In The Loop with Nick Wright & John Lopez on Thursday prior to the New England Patriots and Pittsburgh Steelers Thursday Night Football opener. In the game the Steelers complained of having headset problems between the coach’s headsets during the game.

Jackson told Nick & Lopez that headset problems were common in New England when he visited there as a coach with the Washington Redskins and Buffalo Bills.

“We played in Foxborough, between my years in Washington and Buffalo, at least six times,” Jackson said. “I think four out of the six (the headsets went out), the other two times were because they blew us out. The headsets miraculously didn’t go out when they blew us out.”

The NFL checks all the headsets before the game to make sure that everyone is able to communicate with the correct people, be it coach to coach or coach to quarterback or defensive captain. Jackson said there was never a problem before the game when these checks were made, but then when you needed to quickly relay calls during no-huddle situations problems would arise.

“You’ll get ready to call in a play and at the same time [the Patriots] go into a hurry up offense, so you’re trying to communicate down to the coordinator so he can get his call together, what personnel is coming to the game what the situations is with the sticks because once the tempo increases the information becomes more of a necessity.

“What it does, is it’s not only a technical aspect of it, but there is a mental aspect of it of losing control of what’s going on out there. You plan and prepare and you have a game plan of what you are going to do and all of a sudden all of that is gone.

“It’s just dead air. There was always a direct correlation (to the hurry up offense) and they would never go out again.”

Jackson said he never had a problem with his eleven years in coaching when he was in Washington or Buffalo and the only place other than New England that the headsets went out was in Detroit. But that only happened once and it happened four of the six games when the teams he was with visited the Patriots.​

I've heard Ted Johnson on 610 say that for a stadium that opened less than 15 years ago, Gillette Stadium is a dump & Kraft had it built with next to no frills..That may have something to do with it...

But the thing about this though is that noone else really complains about it elsewhere & it appears to be just a random thing at all other stadiums. On the contrary, there have been multiple people who have come out & specifically said that headsets going out during critical points in the game at Gillette is a problem & has been for years. Furthermore, i don't think Tomlin's the type of guy to engage in conspiracy theory crap like that...If you watch his press conferences, he's always been a straight shooter & a guy who holds himself and his team accountable. Last night though, the guy was clearly bothered by what happened and it's apparently happened to them there enough times for him to reference the issue.

As far as i'm concerned, there's just too much smoke around the patriots and some of the things they've allegedly done for there to not be a fire somewhere...maybe it's a small fire, but this stuff is coming from somewhere. People can act like it's all jealousy and whatever, but it's not like they haven't been caught cheating before. If it weren't for Mangini ratting on them about spygate & the subsequent video, they'd probably be still doing that too. They are perpetual line crossers & I've got no doubt that part of Belichick's "genius" is rooted in him combing the rules book looking for ways to continually do that without actually putting his job in serious jeopardy. If this were any other lesser accomplished or revered owner/coach/player these guys would be out of the league or run off Donald Sterling style.

I respect your perspective, but I'm not buying it from a head coach that purposefully placed himself on the field of play to influence a potential TD play and then lied about it. Tomlin can suck eggs and he's nothing but the Steelers version of Barry Switzer regarding his SB championship to me.

And Tomlin is so serious that he won't even bother to file a complaint.

So it's easier for you to believe that Tomlin cheated and lied in his 1 incident (no incidents before or after) than it is for you to believe that maybe....just maybe Belichick and the Patriots is/have engaged in multiple instances of questionable sportsmanship? Even after being caught redhanded with the spygate thingy?

I mean ok that's your opinion and I respect it.... but i just think when it's all said and done, these guys won't be remembered the same way as many of the other great dynasties before them..for the run they've had they should be remembered like the 49ers of the 80's....Steelers of the 70's..Instead I think people will look back on them like the the stick em' raiders of the 70's-80's. Yeah they won some championships, but its questionable some of the ways they used to get em.

I was surprised he even answered that question to be honest, I was even more surpised to hear that he has had an issue every time they take the field. Apparently the NFL needs to invest some of that hard-earned money updating their headset systems.
 
If the Pats don't want people jumping to the cheat card immediately when something like this happens, they should look to their rep. Reap what you sow, MFers.

As a lifelong Houstonian, last night's game was tough to watch. I have really grown to despise the Pats over the last 10 years and wanted terrible things to happen to them. But I always want terrible things to happen to the Steelers. Short of both teams ending up with 44 sprained ankles each, I was bound to be disappointed.
 
I am hoping the headset issue isnt going to be dominating the news every week after the games .. i don't care one bit for the pats but i am starting to think that every "glitch" in every game with them is going to be focused on if they are cheating. Yes the Pats are labelled as cheaters (rightfully so),but i am sensing this is no more than a witch hunt now.

Best thing these teams can do is quit complaining. Get their team ready to playthem ..and stomp a mud hole in the patriots on gameday.
Also if headsets go out throughout the league frin time to time. I would think teams would prepare for this and esp if everyone is so hellbent that the pats have been doing this for years. I just hope we arent getting to the point were the news off the playing field becomes bigger than the news on the playing field

I never said or even implied such a belief.

I'm neither a Patriots defender nor a Patriots hater. My attitude is to be as pragmatic and objective as possible. They are certainly guilty of some things, but I'm not buying that they are guilty of all things. Success breeds contempt, and with their amount of success over the past 15 years, I'm seeing a lot of rush to judgments that simply lack credibility. To what degree is debatable, but I'm not jumping on a bandwagon for either side.

How impressive are the Steelers championships when the team was full of steroid abusers? Oh right, it was "legal" but that does not make it ethical.

Then look up "Tarpgate" in which the Steelers purposefully tampered with the field itself.

Speaking of "Spygate", Bill Cowher admitted that his Steelers teams stole opponents' defensive signals.

It is all forms of cheating. I'm not saying any of it is right, but this is nothing new under the sun.
 
And the raiders under madden used to tape objects to them AFTER the refs came in and inspected the players. I saw an interview with madden a few years back on a NFL network broadcast (cant remember which one) and madden had a little smirk and said"we didnt have anything when we were checked "(loosely paraphrasing )..if you watched that you could tell by his answer what happened

The Pats are "America's Team" 1.1 (Dallas is 1.0). People are going to watch them because they love them and people are going to watch them because they want to see the other team beat their ass
 
I personally despise the pats....I always figured there had to be something shady to how they were winning.....spygate confirmed it...haven't really ever trusted them. Have always thought Brady was somewhat over-rated......................................& I think Gronk is possilbly the most over rated player in sports today.
 
The Patriots cheat, take a slap on the wrist, and keep on winning. Good for their organization. The Texans do everything right (total opposite in terms of fair play), and I'm still waiting for our Lombardi trophy. Just one will make me happy. We don't need four like the Patriots. Or even six like the Steelers.

As much as I despise Tom Brady for ruining the integrity of the league and lying about his involvement in deflategate (destroying his cell phone records made him 100 % guilty in my eyes), it's hard to hate on his on-field accomplishments; Six Super Bowl appearances, four SUper Bowl wins and three Super Bowl MVPs isn't too shabby.

Even when Aaron Hernandez, a known criminal and murderer, got into trouble people didn't even care that team owner Robert Kraft backed him up, was seen hugging him on camera several times, and invested millions of dollars into him over several years. The Patriots came out of that mess still winning games.

It's like the Patriots cheat, spit at the law and laugh, and come away winners.
Everything your parents, teachers, church leaders taught you growing up...
Through it all out the window when it comes to the New England Patriots.

Rob Gronkowski is a hardcore party dude and womanizer. Whoohooo!!!!
Party it up big boy. Life is just one big party for the New England Patriots.
And they may win a fifth Lombardi trophy. Tom Brady is still going strong.

But the Houston Texans do a lot of great things off the field. Bob McNair is a great Christian man. You'll never see us become like the Patriots. Which is good and bad. I would love to have their Super Bowl success.

The Houston Texans have class. The New England Patriots have no class...

But yet they're the Super Bowl champions who have a long history of winning.

I guess life really isn't fair...

I'm confident Belichick has no knowledge of any Patriot employees manipulating the Visiting teams Communication systems.

However, just to be safe I'd subpeona his cell phone & look for any one nicknamed "the visiting teams communications equipment Messer upper"

I watched last night's game with more interest than I've ever had in in any Patriot's game. Of particular interest was watching them score 28 points effortlessly despite having short, slow WRs, Slow RBs with little play making ability & practically a statue for a QB.

Drove me crazy. How many of Brady's 25 completions went farther than 10/12 yards in the air? Not too many. It's like dying a slow, agonizing death.
 
One thing about the nfl....best drama on tv.

I believe it had 27 million viewers and had the highest rating for an nfl opening game

I get what you attempted to do, but it was just lame and my mind registered a complete whiff - a non sequitur redundancy - that was a waste of 10 seconds of my finite life. Try harder next time.

I presumes half would be sufficient since it is an old and worn out cliche'. I really was trying to limit your time investment by doing so. But I promise to waste time with a full explanation for you from here on out. Then you can just let it go or answer with a snarky post for some other reason.
