Why?
Good speed. Got some coverage and tackle skills
His tackling skills are awesome. These are highlights of course, but once he gets his hands on you, its over.Good speed. Got some coverage and tackle skills
Nickel LB is a position. Teams are in Nickel over 60% of the time.I like the dude as a football player .... I just don't know where they are gonna play him at ~220lbs.
Not sure he has the speed to play safety and is kinda light in the ass to play inside LBer in the NFL.
Exactly why I thought Caserio signed too many back end vets. Should have left more room for rookies.John Harris on the radio is citing that NC talked about the number of the players on the roster last night after they had their 2 picks. They have approximately 80 players on the roster before the picks today. Assuming they pick 2 times in the 5th, once in the 6th and 7th, that's going to leave 6 spots to get to 90 players. You know they are going to bring in some UDFAs so maybe they don't want to draft players that they are going to have to potentially cut.
What happened here? I don't get it.Texans trade two 6ths 203 & 212 for 174 well before being on the clock.
Texans traded two 6ths to pick 174; then traded 174 and 7th to 170.What happened here? I don't get it.

Yes. Absolutely, yes. The Texans need to look to develop talent for the future. Not waste time on 1 year contract vets that will never amount to anything. So you would rather have a bunch of back ended rookies verses proven players who can play right away?
2 hours ago · The Los Angeles Rams have traded down, sending the 170th overall pick (Round 5) in the 2021 NFL Draft to the Houston Texans in exchange for the 174th overall pick (Round 5) and 233rd overall pick (Round 7). The Los Angeles Rams have selected University of Central Florida tight end Jacob Harris with ..

And, you're using "proven" very loosely. The only thing most of these guys have proven is that they can't hack it as a regular.
This goes without saying. Teams currently can have 90 on their rosters. This will be reduced to 55 for the season. Most of those late rounders won't make the team. And most of those 1 year contract guys won't make it either.

Wouldn’t it have created far more value in the long term to have traded these picks away for next years draft, could have packaged something towards a 3rd or 4th rounder next year instead of this.Exactly why I thought Caserio signed too many back end vets. Should have left more room for rookies.
Last year it was increased to 55. Has it dropped back to 53 for this coming season?53 man roster...12 players at least on the practice squad... average of 10 players on IR...75 players through the roster w/o cutting anyone because of playing ability
Meh, they're going to get plenty of draft capital out of Watson.Wouldn’t it have created far more value in the long term to have traded these picks away for next years draft, could have packaged something towards a 3rd or 4th rounder next year instead of this.
I wouldn't get too hung up on the weight - he was effective in college and can put on some muscle under a professional conditioning program.I like the dude as a football player .... I just don't know where they are gonna play him at ~220lbs.

Was Sam mills even 5’10”?I like the player especially at this point in the draft. Athletic and instinctive with good tackling fundamentals. Undersized sure but former HOF LB Derrick Brooks who Lovie coached in Tampa was 6’ 229 when he was drafted.
Not at all saying Wallow is the same caliber of player. Just that his size is minimized as a projected WILL in Lovie’s scheme. He’s a good fit for the type of LB this team needs. His floor is a special teams stud but he has starting potential.
Here is a link to the new CBA roster rules implemented last year. It's not a straight forward increase and a bit convoluted.Last year it was increased to 55. Has it dropped back to 53 for this coming season?

And there will be more players to do so with. Though the roster limit will continue to be 53 for 2020, two players from the practice squad may be brought up to increase roster sizes to 55 on gameday, with those two players reverting back to the practice squad after gameday. Practice squads will also be increased in size from 10 players to 12 beginning this season.
Active gameday rosters will also grow from 46 to 48, provided one of those extra players activated is an offensive lineman.
Also not to forget that Tampa 2 utilises MLB to drop back with the Safeties when the read is pass so he could really suit what Lovie wants to do with his D.I wouldn't get too hung up on the weight - he was effective in college and can put on some muscle under a professional conditioning program.
Some sites have him listed at 230 if that makes you feel better.
He is a defensive and team leader with a good mind for defense.

Yes it would have been, but we know it takes 2 to tango. The Texans would have to have known a player that a particular team was coveting to make it work...kinda tough to push for that at the back end of the 5th round.Wouldn’t it have created far more value in the long term to have traded these picks away for next years draft, could have packaged something towards a 3rd or 4th rounder next year instead of this.

He’s a good open field tackler, very instinctive..very good at squaring guys up in limited space..but leaves his feet a little too early sometimes which causes him to have those tackles where his legs/body swing wildly around from the momentum and he’s basically arm tackling. Like Cunningham, he was able to get away with making a crap ton of tackles that way in college, but pro RB & skill position players in the NFL will run thru those rather easily.
Floor: Jack Del Rio, Ron Rivera....Kiko Alonso
Ceiling: taller version of Zach Thomas
Hmm...that must be why they moved up twice to go get the 5th rounder. He's got the desire to hit and tackle hard.....cleaning up the loose ends is much easier when the desire is already there.
Screams special teams and depth @ Safety to play a lot of zone. I don’t hate the pick at all, intel suggested he would not be there for them, they had conviction so moved up. I would rather sacrifice extra pick to lock down someone I know who will make the roster.
Thing is, and I have no idea of the validity of it, but I've heard the Texans moved up to get Nate Hobbs, who the Raiders took 3 picks ahead of them. Or, what would have been 7 picks from where they 1st moved up to at 174. They made that move way early BTW. I'm thinking that's why they moved up again, so that they would at least get Wallow, when Hobbs was taken.
I don't know if that explains why they moved up twice or not, but if so, that wasn't played very well at all by Caserio.
And he's from TCU. He'll be a starter after Westerby gets done with him.
“There’s really not much to write home about…” describes the Texans in a nutshell. An “old” team comprised mainly of mediocre rentals that will likely be traded in next year for a different round of rentals until they get younger, “home grown” talent. Hopefully, Wallow will be one of the few young guys that sticks. Like Mills, I think Wallow will be given a lot of rope since he was a Caserio pick.See the best and worst Texans rookie of the preseason per Pro Football Focus

“We’ve seen marked improvement from Garret from Day 1,” Smith said. “Smart, good football knowledge. But like most young players, need experience. He’s gotten a lot of that. He’s a student of the game. Now it’s about daily improvement.”
