PFF 2017 Mock Draft

PapaL

Loose Screw
They did not have Mahomes being drafted in the 1st but 2 Qbs were selected early.

25.
Forrest Lamp, T/G, Western Kentucky
A three-year star in PFF’s grading system, Lamp only gave up four pressures last season on 417 attempts, including his signature game in which he allowed only one against a formidable Alabama defensive front. He’s played left tackle for Western Kentucky, though he may get moved to guard in the NFL, but regardless of position, he is smooth in pass protection and strong in the run game where his 82.7 grade tied for fifth in the nation. Houston can use an upgrade at both guard and right tackle, so Lamp is a fit.

Absolutely love this pick.

I'm pretty sure he can be a really good RT and an all pro level OG.

This guy is really good.

Instant upgrade, dominated Alabama's Tim Williams. Best feet I've seen on an OL in a while. Moves effortlessly and is country strong. Doesn't back down from anybody. Only reason he may have to play OG is I think he we measure out about 6'3. If he measures out 6'4 or taller here's your future LT. Arm length is around 33 in, maybe 34 in.

Interesting that they have us taking Lamp over Robinson.

I would take Robinson due to his being able to play LT.

If you could draft Lamp Rd.1 and trade with New England and draft Robinson your OL would be set for a decade. Those redzone/3rd and short issues would be solved. Pick up Cutler and you have a SB contender.

Brown/XSF/Martin/Lamp/Robinson an OL that could grow into a Cowboys type OL. With Mancz as depth at OG/C. and Lamp providing depth at OT if Brown/Robinson went down.

Robinson is overrated. People are excited about his measureables and ignore his deficiencies on film. PFF isn't perfect but they do base their mock drafts off film grades and ignore hype.

Agreed on Robinson. I do believe he could be great RT and a Micheal Oher type LT.

What do you think of Robinsons strengths/weaknesses?

I was thinking about Cutler but I thought he was not a good locker room guy?
Anyway, I did some comparisons with Brock and several other qbs looking at their first years as starters and even though most of them had more ints than Brock, they also had at least twice as many TD's - and this was the standout difference between all their stats as all the other stats were similar.
Cutler falls in with the others - iow, he can score TD's.
To add some more info, the comparos were with P.Manning, A Rodgers, T.Brady and J.Cutler and of course Brock.
All other stats were close except the ability to get those TD's.
Telling.

Cutler is wildly inconsistent and seems to perpetually have a bad attitude.

As a 34 yo QB these are burning red flags no matter all of his arm talent.
I knew there was some sort of attitude problem and that won't fly with Billy-boy.
I wonder why he is like that? He has/had a chance to be a decent qb in this league with the big bucks in his bank account.

Dominant run blocker that checks all the boxes on measureables but is a very average pass blocker. In today's league with all the pass happy offenses that is a problem. To me it looks like he has poor footwork in pass pro and struggles to handle speed rushers.

To me he's a RT. As I stated in my mock, the only difference I see between Robinson and Roderick Johnson is that Robinson is more polished in his techniques.

Robinson is much more powerful in the run game and is decent in the pass game. It's not that his footwork is always bad. It's just really bad 4-5 times a game. He seems to lunge and get off balance. Saban also gave Robinson very little help in the form of chips by the RB or TE help.

I see Robinson at worst as Jack Conklin, he went #8 last yr and I don't see Robinson falling further than 15 if the character issue check out.

Gotta draft a qb and stop scraping em off other losers benches!

I sure would've liked to scrape around the Pats bench when Brady was a backup. Rodgers,Brees, Cousins, Old timers Staubach, Steve Young etc.... all were benchwarmers.

If I had to pick a guy who has a chance to fall to 25 it would be Mahomes. But you would need to clean up his footwork and teach him how to read a defense. Man Texas Tech has had some QB's on their campus at the same time. Mahomes/Webb/Mayfield.

Schaub was a worthy bench warmer for a few yrs

I have a hard time taking seriously any mock draft that has DeShaun Watson-QB going #2 overall. I know it only takes one idiot GM to select a player, but he's not a 1st round talent.

No to Watson. No to Robinson. A more emphatic no to Roderick Johnson. Yes to Lamp and he could play LT but if selecting him for right, rather go with Skipper later in draft.

If I knew CBS Sports were accurate mine would be 1.25 LT Garett Bolles 2.57 Qb Mahomes .

If players move as I suspect my mock would look more like Mahomes in first and Dion Dawkins in second. Julie'n Davenport LT in fourth is really looking good.

I've had Dion Dawkins in the 2nd round for the Texans in my unpublished mocks because of CBS ranking, but honestly think he could go in the 1st round, getting him in the 2nd would take some luck. Another one to look at is Antonio Garcia from Troy. I'm impressed with his pass protection, athletic, smooth kick step/slide, natural knee bender, good with his hands, etc...but needs work on run blocking.

I think Dawkins is going to break into the 1st round as well. Garcia will probably go early 2nd.

Western Ky OL Forrest Lamp, a guy many are high on, got hurt. Won't practice today, might sit out Senior Bowl. From agent @ErikBurkhardt:

With the combine coming up, he probably shouldn't play. I know he's trying to make a splash, especially coming from Western KY, but high ankle can become problematic. Isn't that what ended Martin's season for us?

My sentiments exactly, sit out and get healthy, teams have got lots of film on him and that will weigh more than Senior Bowl performance.

Wolf you could easily be correct on Dawkins as many are saying he could be late first. I dropped him from my board after assault March 2015; however his diversionary program, Accelerated Rehabilitative Disposition (ARD) he was back on radar. Most seem to see him as OG but we need a OT who can start day one on right then move to left when DB leaves.

Dawkins, who measured 6-foot-4 and 317 pounds, played both guard spots and took some reps at left tackle on the final day. But his NFL future appears to be at guard, which he said he expected before arriving at the Senior Bowl. This is not considered a strong offensive line draft class, and Dawkins could emerge as one of the top linemen before the draft.

"I actually like it a lot," Dawkins said of guard. "I learn fast and I develop daily. . . . I'm taking it little by little."

I saw that CBS dropped him from the list of OT prospects and put him on the OG list. From the film I saw on him, he looked good at OT and the OG move is a surprise. He just made a thin group of OT's even thinner with this move provided he stays at OG.

He measured in at just under 6'4 at the Senior Bowl so now most draftniks are saying he's an OG only despite him being a great pass protector and having 35' arm length.

Duane Brown is 6'4". I really hate when draftniks get caught up in tiny height and weight over analysis.

Yep. Some of these things are important but to just completely ignore the film (which is what really matters) and focus on measurements is a huge pet peeve for me. And Dawkins actually has a much bigger wingspan than Brown.

Brown arm length - 33 1/4
Dawkins arm length - 34 5/8

Dawkins is actually the perfect size for a LT. Short enough to where he's fluid/agile and doesn't struggle to bend or have clumsy feet but also has the wingspan of a guy who is 6'6.

I judge OT's by feet/arm length/strength more than height. 6'4 is tall enough. I do believe thar Dawkins will be a great OG and could be an above avg RT.

See that's how I feel about Lamp. Everyone says Lamp can play OT and it's like yeah so can Zack Martin. But Martin is an All-Pro OG so why stick him at OT? I think Lamp could be a decent OT but why play him there when he has elite potential as an OG.

I think some of these OT prospects are getting to tall. Skipper is 6'09", McDermott is 6'08". The way OLB's dip a shoulder to get under and past an OT, these guys might have trouble getting low enough to effectively block someone like Von Miller who can get low and dip with the best of em.
